Help! I’m from the Midwest and came home from beautiful Sanibel yesterday with beautiful shells. I read many posts online about bleach and water and letting them soak to clean them. They all lost their color. I’m just sick! Is there any way to restore their color? I’ve tried mineral oil/baby oil and it helped with some but most are NOTHING like they were when we left Sanibel. 😢😢😢

I've been there. Same spot. Picking up trash the local county beach goers left laying around while the wife looked for shells. Often we see blue herons in the rocks just off the Captiva side parking.

I’ve found a few of the on the beach but they look died out. Will they still hatch? Have they already hatched? And why have I never seen an actual conch on this beach? Thanks for any info you can give me on this. 🙏

It could be two things hydroids or sea lice. Which both are basically microbic and or almost invisible. The hydroids are most likely the cause being more related to that of jellyfish. Sea lice are more encountered at specific times of the year mostly and the coming end of summer. Where you will be swimming at the beach and experience random stinging at moments which are mixed with other sea lice/baby jellyfish tentacles that they often shed or release. 😊 I have years of experience personally 😫 with all sea stinging things

I miss your shelling cruises.I was on one in April 2015.You taught me a lot about shells and the living creatures that live(d) in them.I came again in 2018 and stayed on the island for a week. Finally got experience low tide about 3 hrs before I had to catch my flight home.As soon as the West Wind gets up and running I’m coming back.

you should NEVER pick up any barnacles, many of them carry very harm diseases and bacteria. but that's not even the worst part. the worst part is, they will "attach" themselves to a host (a rock, a boat, or YOU), once they are attached to you, they will stay on you forever until surgically removed.......oh whoops, thats isnt the worst part.......the worst part is, some barnacles will attach themselves onto your skin, borrow themselves inside your flesh and start growing inside you like a cancerous tumor. so, imagine that thing in the video, growing inside your flesh and bones....
