You call this a trailer? Is ITC presenting a live play, or showing a film? Trailer of soft music and people walking in slow motion isn't a trailer in the "classical" sense of the term.

“His heart danced upon her movements like a cork upon a tide. He heard what her eyes said to him from beneath their cowl and knew that in some dim past, whether in life or revery, he had heard their tale before.” ― James Joyce, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Irish Classical has polished up a sparkling gem for us. Bravo and Brava to the stars of Sea Marks...Chris Kelly and Kristen Tripp Kelley... magnificent performances. This is an absolute triumph for the entire theatre company. Captured with sensitive and beautiful cinematography, seamless post-production edits, and emotionally evocative soundscapes, you will be treated to the "front-row-center seat" experience that patrons of ICTC's intimate Andrews Theatre have enjoyed for many seasons. Tickets available at: www.irishclassical.com/sea-marks So, open a bottle of fine wine and watch this with someone you love, then, spread the word.

Raymond Calvert’s farcical “The Ballad of William Bloat”, immediately calls to mind an equally devilish work written and performed by Tom Lehrer, a mathematical prodigy who taught for many years at MIT, but chose not to complete his doctorate, instead turning his talents to musical theater. He recorded several albums - his first was “Songs by Tom Lehrer” (1953) - originally issued in only 400 pressings. For the six-year-old me in 1961, discovering Tom was love at first bite…the game was trying to catch his witticisms as fast and as furious as he flung them at me. And, it turned out, listening became a special moment of sharing between my mom and me as we played and replayed both sides of this record over and over, and soon enough, memorized each one. As mom lay dying on Christmas eve in 1915, we sang together again, from sweet memory, several of our favorite songs. This one - "The Irish Ballad" - was our favorite. Here’s a link to the recording of his so-called genius. You won't be disappointed. czcams.com/video/P_jjRNMOopA/video.html

Bravo, Vincent. Joyous and uplifting readings. The oral tradition is alive and well! My first exposure to James Joyce was as a high school kid, dutifully fulfilling my winter break obligation to read "Dubliners". I had no idea who JJ was, but I was quickly relieved to find that Dubliners was entirely made of short stories. Oh joy, no ponderous tome that would break my spirit. As school let out, I began a late-night crusade. I'd promised myself to read a few of the stories each night as I lay in bed, when the house was still as ice. It was by happenstance and not plan, that I came to read his last story - The Dead - on Christmas night, after all the guests and relatives had gone off home, and everyone in our house was in bed. It was as if Joyce had read my mind (and I his)...this faceless writer. Somehow he had prompted an unexpected leap in my world-perspective. This feeling was a moment of profound maturation that I still vividly recall. As I finished the story, snow began tapping at my bedroom window. And just then I read: "A few light taps upon the pane made him turn to the window. It had begun to snow again. He watched sleepily the flakes, silver and dark, falling obliquely against the lamplight. The time had come for him to set out on his journey westward. Yes, the newspapers were right: snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling, too, upon every part of the lonely churchyard on the hill where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead." I wept.
