Some advice from a regular wheelchair user (several years too late). If you have to get down a curb and there's no ramp nearby, you can either pop a wheelie and try to balance long enough to get down, or Option B is to go in reverse. I would recommend the latter, if you don't have experience popping a wheelie

0:45 i think things like this can be a good way for able bodied people to understand certain struggles wheelchair users face. but [as a disabled wheelchair user] being in a wheelchair for a single day is not enough "to know what its really like" to be disabled. while i acknowledge the good intentions behind this, what bothers me is i have seen quite a few people do this challenge then think they fully understand and can speak on life with a mobility disability being in a wheelchair has allowed me to do so many things i could not do without it. but there ARE many painful, and emotional moments especially being excluded by inaccessibility from meaningful things and having people harass me for "faking" my disability

I am very interested in the bowhead reach but am concerned about whether I could even operate it without falling over right away because of having no trunk control and how it leans. I swear your video is the only one on CZcams or the internet that I can find of a quadriplegic using one. Any chance you had some other videos or would be willing to Chat with me about it?

I've only had one "girl" friend, since injury almost 25 years ago and she asked if she could jump in my court chair, so she could experience what it was like negotiating life in a chair. It wasn't 15 minutes before she stopped, got out of the chair and said, "I can't do this." She turned and walked away without another word. Never saw her again. So much for a challenge!?

Kody Eldridge I may not be in a wheelchair, but I recently had to start using a walker because I have lost some nerve and muscle function in my legs for unknown reasons… And my legs are in pain quite often… And the disease can be physically and emotionally “crippling.“. I have what’s called idiopathic neuropathy, and I wouldn’t wish this upon anybody.

At 3:35 (+/-) , 'need their support to do every task, no matter how trivial, throughout the day.' Umm, I'm sorry, but NO. Please do not paint us all as being unable to do things for ourselves. Yes, some WC users require either more assistance than others and some do need full time assistance. But a lot of us don't. Most of us try to be as independent as possible. Take the kitchen for example. If someone does not have a modified kitchen, commonly used things can be moved to lower shelves/cabinets or even just moved to the front of the counter. Need to use the countertop for meal prep but can't reach? Use the table instead. Need to cook? Use the front burners or microwave. Other life skills can be learned. Occupational therapists teach new WC users ways to accomplish things independently or at least with minimal assistance from others. Whilst the intent behind this video was good, and whilst it did illustrate some of the more commonly encountered problems, it perpetuated the belief that everyone who uses a WC is fairly helpless. Suggestion for a follow-up video: spend the day shadowing an actual WC user throughout their typical day and compare / contrast your experiences with theirs.
