This time around, I'll be taking you on a short ferry ride from Kadikoy to Eminonu. This was especially useful to keep my students busy and engaged during my recent workshops. Additionally, I've included a brief analysis of some rece...

How on earth do you get so close to people without them reacting or saying something!?
Hi Eduardo, I’m really into this style of photography and finding your channel is just a gem and big inspiration Keep it up! Saludos desde el sur de Chile
Muchísimas gracias compatriota!!! Saludos!
Love it man... Nepal is one of my favourite place. Looking forward to be back soon. The kid at the end is cute. He looks like a future master.
Great video Eduardo. I like the aging pattern of your camera. I like it even more when I see that it's coming partly from helping people. 🙂
Absolutely loved it amazing work 👍🏼👌🏻
Thank you so much 😀
Amazing shots! Great video with beautiful atmosphere and music 😍
I'm s glad you enjoyed it! and thx a lot for leaving a comment! :)
next thing you know you have in your hand a leica m6 with a summicron 35mm and a 20 euro portra 400 in it (its a joke)
hahahah you know what.... If I had the money I would only shoot on film., the same extends to having a Leica. My wet dream is to have a M10 with a 28mm anda 50mm (even if they're voigtlander glass)
Thank you for the shout out amigo. I strongly resonate with the intentionality part, although most of the time I don't look through the viewfinder haha specially when using wide angle lenses, I simply cross my fingers and hope for the best (which to be fair, almost never happens), but when using 50mm or longer the camera is almost glue to my eye. Great video as always, keep them coming and WELCOME TO THE DARKSIDE🖤🫰🏼!
Man! it's not something you "HAVE" to do, but it's definitely something you need to practice every now and then. It's just a resource at the end of the day. Some of the best shots in history probably didnt have any deep intention I think.
Amazing video as always, Eduardo! I started with film using Nikon S2 and later digital with Canon 5D Mark II. I find that film is easier to shoot, whereas in digital, I mess up the exposure way too often. But I admire you a lot, having only started film now and already nailing everything. Looking forward to more of this!
wow thanks a million for watching. Nothing to admire, I check every now and then with my phone to see If I'm exposing correctly. It helps the fact that I am bit familiar with the sunny 16 rule tho. Cheers!
Saludos
Once I realized that I do know when to press the shutter button, I have my camera almost always in "single" mode. So far I haven't regretted it. However, recently I've listened to G. Pinkhassov's lectures, and he has a completely opposite approach, he would at some point move his camera in auto mode with a zoom lens and high burst without seeing what pictures are being taken. As far as I remember, he called it letting the camera do the job. I don't find this approach (at least at this point) working for me, but it demonstrates once again that photography has rules and it doesn't have any rules at the same time.
I'm interested now in seeing how Pinkhassov works the scene. It sounds like a no-go for me to leave the whole work to the camera. Interesting approach nonetheless! thanks for sharing bud
Great video again bud. Always very enjoyable
thanks bud Glad you think so. Hope you're doing great!
I really resonate with the part about intentionality. Good tools are “great to have” but not a necessity. What I’m seeing is a lack of “direction” in some (popular) work. Really nice put video
curious about the works you're refering too XD.... thanks bud for watching!
Hey Eduardo, do you usually use the ovf of the xpro to compose the photos or do you prefer the evf?
I use both depending on the scene. When it’s bright and the light is constant I often switch to the ovf. When I need to nail focus I use the evf… I mainly use the ovf with flash tho
Nice snap shooting but the man who combing his hair definitely does not want to be photographed.
Don’t think so. I don’t remember that was the case.
@6:27 is there a print of this for sale? wow
we can make it happen! :)
Love your work, enjoyed taking the time to learn from your posts! Looking forward for more!
Awesome, thank you so much for watching!
Lovely, did you chest mount the pov camera? If yes, do you feel it makes people a little too wary of you while you sre around them?
Yeah I do so, I use and old Osmo action I and a cheap sub-brand chest mount. I think people barely notices it when I'm making sure to wear a dark/black t-shirt.
usas alguna simulación?
Si, pero solo como puntos de partida en Capture One. Sobretodo Provia, Astia y Velvia. Solo saco fotos en RAW por cierto.
Just found your channel. Loving your vibe and insight. Your words rang so true in your video about focal length. I love Istanbul too
Glad to know you enjoyed the video!!! Cheers!
What a great video.
Thank you! So kind of you!
What lens did you use for this video? I think I have missed it!
For the vidéo or the photos?
Thanks for an excellent video with great images. You display talent in capturing subjects at the right time and from the perfect angle. I use 16mm f/1.4, 23mm f/2 or 23mm f/1.4, and 56mm f/1.2 lenses on my X-Pro2 for street photography.
Glad you enjoyed it! Wow, you have an amazing setup!
You make me wanna go back to Istanbul, and I will, over and over again. Amazing serie photos.
Same here! One of the best places to do street photography out there!
Well done Eduardo
Thanks for watching!!!
Great video thanks for sharing, I'll be there in a month! @eortizfoto what spot is this? central market?
Yes! Most of the photos were taken during the week market, but don’t remember which day was it tho.
So glad that I have stumbled upon this channel. I have watched so many street photography channels, and in my opinion none of them explain the craft and mindset like you do. Also, your images are so rich in colour and very captivating. I am currently in a phase of my photography where I am learning new ways to become more creative and tell stories with my images… your content is helping me greatly in my quest. Thank you for your dedication, your skills and willingness to educate. ✌️
Wow, thank you for your beautiful words! Glad to know that my work helps some people out there. Good luck in your photography journey!
beautiful work
Thank you so much bud! Cheers!
Great photos. Thank you from Türkiye…
Thank you very much! Beautiful country bud!
Another great lesson - thanks so much
Thanks to you for watching!
Loving the channel - so helpful and giving
Increíble!
Gracias!!
What a visual delight! I have just binged on 4 of your videos.I'm so glad I came across your channel. I'm contemplating buying an x-pro2. Do you shoot jpgs?
4!? Please don’t torture yourself like that! 😅 No, I only shoot raw. But I use the film simulations as starting points on my editing process (done on capture one)
Your profession is photography
Thanks a million for saying this 🥹
I just sold all my lenses and got the 19mm 1.4 and 33mm 1.4.. as my kit. And a cheap 60 dollar manual lens 35mm 1.4 ttartisan for more daily carry and family stuff. I found the 18mm hard to shoot with.. 🙈 but, i can see how it would work great on a marked place. I live in a city wity only 10k people here 😂
hey man! the 18mm is mayor leagues!... not easy to fill the frame, especially in an empty city lol.
Love it. I will just say make sure you say the lenses are 18 and 35, Not 28 and 50mm. It is very confusing thinking those are the lenses, but they are equivilant.
thanks for watching! yet, I think it's better to speak in equivalents. at the end of the day, the 18mm has the field of you of a 28mm (approx.), the 35 is equal 50... and so on
Man, you just take the photos.. u don't give a fuck 🙈🙈🤣🤣 damn! If i had that courage to go so close and take the pictures! 🤔🙈 just found ur channel today. Awesome work. Gonna go through all your content ! 🥳😍 amazing photos!
No man! I do care about people. I tend to go away as soon as I notice I’m disturbing somebody. Thanks a million for watching! Ps getting close is something you learn bit by bit, step by step.
Nice work mate, you're right about forgetting about trying for perfection and just generate content. No problem with your English language skills either, well paced and easy to understand. Enjoyed your Kolkata video too. Varanasi is a personal fave which I return to as often as I can.
Thank you so much for your support! Glad you like it and great to know my English is good enough to make myself understood.
The most interesting channel for street photography! Not only do I get to share these other cultures with you but your perspective as well . The colors are fantastic compared to the gray streets of New York or London. Thank you for these wonderful videos.
Wow, thank you! The most?! Noooo way
I watched the full video
Thanks a million! Hope you enjoyed it
You’re the king of layers. I’m learning so much with you. Muchas gracias.
Happy to hear that! Good luck, layers aren’t so easy!
Thank you. I enjoy your work very much. The videos are exceptional. Please continue to push out valuable content for the community here. I am traveling to Istanbul in a few weeks, and seeing how the public accepted you taking photos was beneficial. My concern now is to not copy your work. Have you been interviewed by any podcasts where we can listen and learn more about you and your work ? Thanks Again.
Much appreciated! Yeah, people in Istanbul is quite chill, not so much so when it's super hot tho. you wont copy, everyone sees different things, and that's the beauty of photography. I got interviewed by Frames Magazine a while ago. thanks for watching and good luck in Istanbul. here's the link: readframes.com/frames-photography-podcast-with-eduardo-ortiz/
@@eortizfoto Thanks. Quick question. If purchased, can you Understanding Colour be loaded on to Apple Books?
@@Klavsashhave no idea really. But I think It’ll work. It’s a normal pdf file
mine would be: - be prepared for a ‘no’; just go with it - be approachable; speak clearly and show your interest towards your potential subject - compliment them; “i like your dress”/“your appearance is aesthetically pleasing in my eyes”/etc. - direct, not command; tell your subject to imagine a pose instead of prompting them (this can also help done by having a chat with them, as insights from your subject will help you direct poses better. communication is key!) - be grateful and show them the results; say “thanks” and go show the best shots of your subject
thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. i agree with most of them except for the 4th, direct or commanding both imply staging, which I am totally against. I want my work to be candid. thanks a milllion for watching!
@@eortizfoto oh yeah, point no. 4. i do street portraits most of the time 😅
@@wiandryadiwasistio2062 thats so nice!... I dont consider street portraits part of the street photography genre tho unfortunately. I think it works more as documentary work, any sort of directing for me is a no-go in street photography. ...but it's an opinion only! not discouraging intended
@@eortizfoto that’s ok, i enjoyed it as much as you do your works. it’s fun getting to chat and get insights/local wisdom from your subjects!
Just curious how you approach shooting jpeg vs raw? Do you use a particular Fuji profile, and is there much post processing for you? Thanks! Love the work
I shoot raw... not because I need more dynamic range, just the colour density is way better. Also because my editing has changed a lot throughout time and want to be able to correct previous shots. I used the fujifilm film simulations as starting points on my editing. btw I use capture one.
Really enjoyed that! I share the camera and lens combination but not your skill! Nice colours 🤌🏻
it's but a matter of practice and repetition! good luck on your journey!
Great video. The people seem very relaxed being photographed. Have you been to Morocco? Totally different vibe and you might need another approach ;-)
Yes I have, but not as street photographer. I want to come back in the future and see how it goes. but as you say, It's not that easy, and probably will have to shoot somewhat differently. probably more focus on the territory.
Another great video Eduardo. Brilliant advice! I'm enjoying the tighter field of view of the 23mm, you're really filling the frames more and the layering is strong. Keep them coming!
thanks a million! I agree, I tend to get more keepers with a 23mm...but I still think that spending a long time with the 18mm made a difference. It's like hardcore training. XD
This is the most underrated photography channel in all youtube. You are so good! ( Y lo dice un argentino a un chileno, imaginate jajajaj)
ahahah wow it means the world then! every bit of helps spreding the channel goes a long way
Hello Eduardo! Lovely bit of advice as always. I found that by disabling all but the essential from my screen (the focus point) I was free to experiment a lot more with my compositions. I've had the 3x3 grid on for the longest time and it is already burned into my eye so I do not need it to guide me anymore on the screen. After my most recent photowalk, I managed to finally nail a shot I had been chasing for 2 years!
wow that's great! I'd like to see that shot man, two years is a long time. I dont have that level of patience.
