    Mí hermana y mi cuñado vivían en frente a la pista donde hacían prácticas y luego instalaron el campamento para las personas que llegaban de Cuba. Yo estuve 2 veces en Gtmo y esas urbanizaciones y casas eran espectaculares al igual que todas las facilidades que tenía la Base.

    The link does not work; very Navy-like of them. Just like ever other facade the navy sets up to make it appear as though they care about active-duty families. Looks really good on paper/online, but doesn't actually do sh*t for anyone. Awesome!

    I lived at North Tipalao back in the 70s , behind our house up in the bonneies were 2 japenese pill boxes. We werent suppose to go into the woods but when your 13 yrs old you seldom obey the rules.

    • @CaptRD
      @CaptRD Před rokem

      I lived there in the early '60's. I think where I lived was referred to as Old Tipalao. I remember a concrete structure on the top of a peak that overlooked a beach that I knew as Shell Beach. On google maps it is now called Old Wive's Beach. I was told by other kids that it was an outlook post used by the Japanese during WWII.

      @@CaptRD sounds like we lived in the same house. I remember those 2 bunkers up behind the house.

    • @CaptRD
      @CaptRD Před rokem

      Thanks for the response. When I was there, I played Little League baseball. We practiced at the ball field that was adjacent to Shell Beach. The concrete structure was on the north side of Shell Beach. To get to it as kids on bikes we rode through some housing that I knew as Officer's country. These were wood houses as I recall and less substantial housing than what I lived in. When Karen hit, only one house like mine sustained any damage, that was two blocks from my house, the roof of that house was lifted off. I was there from February of 1961 to the same month of 1963. I went to Piti Elementary School. My father worked on the north end of the island at the Naval Communication Station.

    • @richardpierce7819
      @richardpierce7819 Před rokem

      @@CaptRD I was there from 69 to 76 and we lived at the naval station for a while and then moved to off base housing up by the Naval Communications station. When we 1st got to the island we lived in the village of Agat and walked to school every morning. What an experience being the only white kids in the village. Just before ( 2 weeks ) we left the island in 76 typhoon Pamala hit the island. The eye went right over our house. The winds got up to over 200 mph. Nice to talk to someone else who knows about life on the island. About Tupelo beach if you walked around below the cliff at low tide there was a little niche that the japenese used to fire towards the beach from during the Marine landing in ww2. I also found a 50 calibre machine gun in a cave at the same beach. The navy EOD took it and destroyed it because it still had ammo in it.

    • @CaptRD
      @CaptRD Před rokem

      I know of the niche you're referring to. As you looked out to the ocean it was off to the right. It was a horseshoe shaped with two openings. You're right, unless you swam to it, it was only accessible at low tide. From the cliff above you could still see the bomb craters in the water from the war days. The one pillbox that I knew of was more or less located directly above the niche. We used to go swimming at the pool by the barracks, there used to be a WWII Japanese two-man submarine there right in front of the pool. We were told it was filled with concrete after some Seabees tried to put it in the pool. The Navy movie theatre was outdoors. To combat the mosquitoes while watching a movie we would burn mosquito punk. My mother was a teacher and she taught junior high school in Agat. The next year she taught high school at Tumon. Was Gab-Gab Beach still around when you were there? I can find no reference to it. I'm wondering if I know it from an unofficial name.

    Takes forever to create a login profile, the password you have to implement has to be at least 15 digits long and must contain several different key points (upper, lower case, numeric, special characters, no words, no sequences and more) however they don't tell you half of this and you keep finding out new rules as you trudge along. Once you do get it resolved and they send you your almost done welcome email their link to confirm registration doesnt work ARGH! I give up, pity as I have some nice rentals that I wanted to post, they old site was very user freindly.

    Yes I had a huge problem with that too. I also had a problem first finding the page then once t registered as well, again once the verification email was sent. The link sent me to a blank page and it was almost impossible to copy with out resenting me to a blank page. Once I spent several hours on it I was able to get it to work. Then the problem is waiting for the local housing office to allow it to be visible ! I had to call them directly but it still say that inspection is pending so I called them back and they said they may do a visual web site inspection or not? Why didn't they do that when they initially approved it. This feature makes it look like you are not approved yet! I was told it may never even happen, so why make it look like it's a process you haven't completed?

    • @NavyHousing
      @NavyHousing Před 9 lety

      lucy amarillo This is a new process for housing offices and property managers and your feedback is important to us so we can improve HOMES.mil to better meet your needs. I am sorry to hear that you had some initial problems with setting up your HOMES.mil account. Property listings are made visible as soon as property mangers' accounts are approved in order to give our customers a wide variety of options. Our staffs inspect listings as they are able and we do update the listings to approve when an inspection is completed and passes. If you have additional questions or feedback, please email us at NavyHousingHQ@navy.mil .

      this new site has security restrictions that are not user friendly. Try registering from a home computer that is not linked to your secure website where your security certificates are already installed.then you can see that its a big problem. Not easy to find the page , register and get the email link enabled to verify the registration. then once you have done all this getting the local housing office to verify your submission is daunting. this will fail if you don't fix this ASAP.
