I really thinking about getting Affinity for my private setup. The price is crazy low for all three programs from Affinity. I am really interested in how this company will develop. Maybe in the future even the agency I work at switch to Affinity... we will see.

Yeah this is terrible that a whole DB can be accessed by one account without MFA set up, but I fear more a world where I have to sit at a computer and press my yubi-key for each layer of required MFA that underlying services depend on. MFA exists in spite of JWT, so we cannot simply reduce a potential MFA authentication chain to a single authentication. MFA is based on distrust of outside credentials. If you remove the option to automate then the computer becomes pen & paper. I'm against mandated MFA without having a super MFA that authenticates multiple layers of MFA.

I switched to Affinity on Ipad 5 years ago, seeing how Adobe at the time, had an awful nutured version of Photoshop. Never looked back. However I am worried, and will always be when acquisitions happen, they can speak as truthly as possible right now, but goals change and greed often ignores the words spoken after mergers.

Here's a little bit of extra info about the cancellation fee that I cannot deliver to the FTC because I'm a EU citizen where, surprisingly enough, my cancellation problems, are entirely legal: I've recently boycott Adobe for Affinity and stopped using their service, but since I am on the very annual, paid monthly contract, I haven't cancelled it yet, because of the cancellation fee, however I did try to cancel it back in January, which is the month I started the subscription (I started on the 3rd of January, so I tried cancelling before that date), but was surprised to find the same cancellation fee that applies if I attempt to cancel within 3 months of my contracts auto renewal (on Jan 3). I shit you not, it is literally impossible to cancel this plan even the few days before auto renewal of the yearly contract. They still wanna charge a fee of several hundred dollars (in my case its $219 USD). So after failing to cancel the plan, as I don't have that amount of dollars available as pocket change per month, I got a deal for a cheaper plan that currently means I pay about $40 USD. But with the recent GenAI training on our works, I do not wish to send them anymore money. So my plan is to simply switch all my subscriptions except adobe onto a new bank account, then cancel the card Adobe charges from, delete my account and be done with it (of course recording all of the actions). Because I'm a EU citizen they cannot go to extreme lengths without severely violating EU's GDPR and in my case I happen to know a parliament member who I plan to contact about this crap regardless. She'll probably redirect me to a fellow party colleague who has been spearheading a lot of the famous EU big tech lawsuits, the Danish Margrethe Vestager

if affinity decided to make a great alternative to Lightroom then that's it, no more pirated adobe, i'll bought the affinity version right away!

Canva is miserable rural service in comparison to the highest quality Adobe products.

im kinda glad im not heavy user of these type of software because its nice to have software, and yeah im not feeling bad pirating adobe. if im needed these software for work im going to gladly buy affinity

Adobe Lightroom has no competition? Have you heard about Capture One or Pixelmator?

Rawtherapee and Dark table are good replacements for Lightroom. If you want tethered shooting there's DigiCamControl.

Biggest competition to Photoshop today is Figma. Most designers I know are ditching Potoshop entirely. For artists, Procreate, Krita, Clipstudio Paint… Canva might be an option for photos for sure.

Why the hell do people still compare Gimp to Photoshop. Gimp is a clunky, confusing mess. I tried to get on board with it in the 00s and it has never ever evolved. Affinity looks good though 👍

This is for THESE versions of the app. As soon as version 3s are out ,you're on your own. They won't "update" old versions. If they make enough change to the program that it deserves to be a new version, they won't be able to make these changes on the old versions. I have a pretty decent $1000 dollar laptop I use for my graphic design stuff, running Illustrator I can maybe have 60 or so layers before everything shits the bed. With Affinity Designer I regularly mess around with projects that have 1000.

In terms of the "ripoff" dilemma of AI, I have the *least* qualms of an AI that steals from a Trillion Dollar Compay lol and I suspect that you'll get more diversity over time as it trained on more users (assuming people opting into that). Realistically, very few people would want to opt into the training so I don't know if that would pan out, but in theory, if you increase the dataset (like you say in the video) then you'll get better stuff. This makes me think of how almost everyone has a free Gmail account because they let Google "read" all of their emails for data farming. It's unlikely that Figma would pay you for training, but I can imagine a FREE Figma version with the training turned on. That would be kinda cool. (Before the replies come in, I pay for Hey email. I'm a bit of a privacy pessimist where I don't disagree with people who are unhappy about the data scraping, I simply recognize that we have already allowed it to happen for more than a decade.)

This law is misandrist, because virtually all developers are men. It imposes extra tax on men. It also disincentivizes investment, because companies that invest in developing new software have to pay extra tax.

They do it on the student plan also. Like the poor student's don't already have enough debt. Imagine this. You get creative cloud to help you when you first go to uni.
