Would you recommend first learning Karigamombe?
@@TafadzwaMundida Karigamombe is a beginner song; but so is Nhemamusasa, and for two-phrase songs, Pfumvu Paruzevha and Chemutengure are also beginner songs. So you can learn the Chemutengure I teach as a first song, if you wish; you don’t necessarily have to learn Karigamombe to understand what I teach. The explanations are important to start understanding relationships between different songs. If you have never played at all, maybe start with Pfumvu Paruzevha. Good luck!
@@ZimbabweMbira thanks a lot for the advice. Started learning in May, so far I've done your Nhemamusasa up to the 3rd lesson. Maybe I'll stick with Nhemamusasa until I've mastered all the variations before branching to other songs.

this video is gold,again,,, thank you for clarifying the names if different mbiras, i understood a little until i found this... i'm learning on a nyunga-nyunga with 19keys (bought as a souvenir 2015-mbare msika) but one day decided to put my guitar down for mbira...handisati ndabata gitare since then... I'm finding the nyunga-nyunga limited in terms of bass and is not as richly sounding as the nhare mbira... roughly how much would i expect to folk out for a Tirikoti mbira, is there a set price or does it range based on the pitch/tuning and if so, what is the range price in US$? Thanks again Mkoma!
@@tb.m5517 Thanks again. Mbira prices have been changing and will continue changing. The best is just to contact Tirikoti and ask - bigger Mbiras and those with additional keys usually cost a little more. If you are a beginner on the Mbira Huru, you are better off starting with a standard Nhemamusasa Mbira in B-flat (which I use for my lessons), or a G-Nhemamusasa that u can play with modern instruments, and then later explore higher and lower pitched instruments. U may also go back to Mbare and buy a Mbira Huru there; there are good and bad instruments there, so u have to determine the quality yourself - and generally u get an instrument worth what u pay kkk. Buying from Tirikoti (or Bvure or Mujuru etc.) at least guarantees some aspect of the quality. Good luck.

Thanks. That was Matemai’s Mbira that he made and played himself. But he is now late, and those of us with some of his Mbiras are unlikely to part with them. So the closest you can get is by ordering a bass mbira (with the lowest note around D) from any of the reputable mbira makers. Good luck.

@tb.m5517 I think it is (or was at one point) in key of D. But Matemai would adjust his tuning regularly to match his voice and other considerations, saka many times ndaiwana tune yavo yachinja kkk.
