Quick Tips: Sewing Vinyl with Tissue Paper
Learn a quick trick from Mary Beth Temple to prevent sticking when sewing vinyl. To prevent the vinyl from sticking under the presser foot, use a Teflon foot, roller foot or walking foot. However, the vinyl may still stick to the bed of the machine. Plus, the slick surface of the vinyl can be difficult for the feed dogs to grab onto.

Cutting Fake Fur
zhlédnutí 235Před 3 měsíci
Cutting fake fur can be messy. Mary Beth Temple shares a quick tip for cutting fake fur to keep your work area clean, and to make sure you don’t accidentally give your fur pile an unwanted haircut. If you attempt to cut the fake fur with the fur side facing up using your fabric shears, much of the fur pile gets trimmed as well, resulting in a big mess. Plus some of that fur pile that gets trimm...

Thank you for this excellent tutorial. It’s very helpful. I wish pattern companies would put the high bust measurements on their patterns.
Please talk about needles, thread and tension. I can't sew this fabric unless the basics work first.
where do we get the downloadable savvy serger tips and techniques? It's not in the description box. Thank you.
I can’t find it either
Thank you so much for this! Will there be a transcript by any chance? I am an absolute beginner, and there are a bunch of glitches I can't make out.
If I m doing with pvc leather how to turn it
Thank you!
Love it 😍
and shes hot
ah so we learn, never knew bis tape needs to be cut at 45 deg...thank you
That would be cute also to cut 2 or 3 pieces of thin felt and braid the felt and hot glue it on the edge around the pie to make it look as if the crust is crimped. Love these.
How to get the PDF download?
In recent videos I see people putting pins longways. Along the line of stitching. So you cannot sew over them. My mum used to sew over pins, but the pins were at right angle to the edge and the moveable foot just scooped up over them whilst sewing. If she broke needles, I doubt she would keep doing it. but I do like in your video the way the pin head is on the outside for ease of removal. Not sure, but I presume my mum may have done that too. Even now it irks me when I see people pinning fabrics with pins lengthways. Eek! Nice, easy helpful video👍👍
Do l do both sides or just one? I bought three really cute summer blouses off the clearance rack. They were only $5 a piece in the end and so I couldn't resist but they are a size too big. I figured I could take them in no big deal and this video was very helpful but both sides are one?
I've been sewing for a long time, and I always wondered why this wasn't the standard method for inserting a sleeve - SO much easier and smoother, not bulky or difficult to fit~!
I love it. It inspires sewing!❤
You said, "You want to measure not from your seam line, but from your stitching line". Isn't that the same thing? 🙃
I believe she means to not include the seam allowance in the measurements
Thank you for this demo, my friend gave me a bobbin winder which was nice of her. And I followed you today as I was using a large spool of thread. I did make a mess of the first as it got into a tangle and I hadn’t noticed I had to go around the flossing wheel. The second attempt is a hit 🎉 Thank you. Oh one more thing is how do I stop it mid wind please, the on button turns it on but not stop it. XXXX
Thank you, so cute!!
i need heavy duty tape to take up work pants (cotton n poly blend by redcap) and am wondering if which tape to buy ?
This was so helpful, thank you ! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you
This is so helpful, thank you!
How do you switch your machine off of sewing mode and into spinning the spool mode? I know my machine uses a presser foot to spin the bobbin, but I can’t get it to actually spin the bobbin instead of just trying to sew with the needle
Smart skilled
This was so helpful, thank you so much!
Thank you for this teaching! And i love the phrase “Any who” because I use it too!!
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this pretty and cute elasticated book mark. I’m aiming to make a few of these soon. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤
Very good instructions thanks
Watching this in 2024
Great tip!
Does it stretch?
Buy or not this junk
Thanks you . First and only video that told me exactly how to give shape to nice jacket that is boxie.👍🏽
How much do you need to add based on your measurements?
Is this mainly for woven patterns? What about knits?
Love it! I love the way you teach, you’re just so personable. Keep bringing more tutorials.
Great idea!
Just the information I needed. Thank you.
Thank you for this tutorial!
Thank you. Any particular brand of glass headed pins?

Where's the template?
Thank you for this tutorial! I really love the fabric you used, that color is beautiful. One of the many things I love about KA mixers is that they come on so many colors! Yours is beautiful, what a fun color. I really debated between that beautiful pale lavendar color and the Blue Velvet (?), but then I thought about the pink, then the black.....you get the idea! In the end, I got the Pistachio, which is a light sage green color to match my kitchen. Sometimes having a lot of choices makes the decision more difficult! I saw you have your cord wrapped around your mixer, so I wanted to tell you about a gadget that sticks to the back of your mixer that your cord wraps around. It really is a big help to keep the cord neat & tidy, and out of sight when its not plugged in. Just wanted to mention it to you in case you have not seen them!
Thanks for the free pattern! ❤
You’re welcome 😊
This is not free you have to join. Cost money 💴!!!
Making a pattern for a rectangular case with 3 inch high corners. Your video explained how I would sew the corners, so I could plan accordingly. Could not have been more clear. Thanks. As a note, what a brilliant sewing machine! Envious.
Best video I have seen on using a serger! Thx, this cleared up a lot of issues I had!!!!
Glad it helped!
@@NationalSewingCircle thx SOOOgood will watch again. Your explanations are best ever. Have taken serger classes from”experts” and was still lost.
Re: phone case by Ellen March. In the 9 years since Ellen March's video was made, cell phone have grown in size. Her video was excellent, but I had a problem with sizing for my larger phone. If she could insert a few details such as the standard leeway (excess material beyond the size of the individual phone so anyone could figure out just how large to make their case, it would save a lot of figuring and mistakes. ( I made my first case a bit snug. The second was better. I also made a rather snug glass case from the same instructions, but the amount of slack needed around a pair of glasses is difficult to calculate. I designed well- firltting masks during covid, which were cut high over the nose, deep under the eyes, and hugged the cheeks and chin closely. Men's, womens and child sizes. A good pattern should have flexible size acommodation, as do dress patterns. Not all phones are the same size.
I am making a bag more advanced than a tote bag for the first time, and the pattern had those corners pre-cut. I didn’t realise I wasn’t supposed to sew them, too. This video saved my project, thank you!
I was trying to make a box pillow but with rounded corners and was struggling to line up the rounded edges and make it look nice and neat. Only after watching you sew this pointy edge box pillow did it occur to me that I should have been cutting my pattern square then adding curved edges on the machine itself. *face palm* thanks for kick-starting my slow brain lol. I don't know what I was thinking lol.
Use a piece of cooking parchment between the material and the iron and you don't need to worry about getting glue on your iron.
