Nice job!
tinkers park show moreo
That's quieter than I would have expected
This is the Cross Engine not the Scotchcrank, both offered by Polly Model Engineering, but very quite different machines. (You got it right in the description though, so just a typo I'm assuming.) However it's nice regardless.
V.nice model
I Googled 4 inch Mac and came up with Mac Book computers. You really need to either enter more info or just remake the video. You didn't even bother to show the end results to show if it worked or not.
To be honest this is such a simple set up for machining rod ends I see no need to say much about it.
@@kevingambrell ...and you see no need to show much about it either because we don't see the end result to know if its what we want or not. This is called Click Baiting in which CZcams frowns upon. If you need money from views, you would be better off setting up a Go Fund Me page because Click Baiting is not the business. No need to respond because I'm blocking you.
What coal are you using ?
Where did you get the lubricator from?
Lovely engine. Did you build her yourself?
Cool things going on there!
Do you have problems with the mechanical water pump not feeding into the boiler? If so how do you get round it?
G'day Kevin now that's an art hand checkering! I have subscribed I know that you built the traction engine sometime ago now but I am very interested in how you did it and your machining work. I am building a super simplex at the moment slow going at 62 the brain is not what it used to be any way thank you for your videos regards John Tasmania Australia
Lovely engine. Any running tips?
This a Stuart Turner no5 not a No1 you can tell from the two standards
How do you set the valve timing to make them run this slow?
Runs slow really well!! My minnie doesn't do that without stopping, why is this?
Thanks for that. Will you need my email?
Thanks for the info. So how do i alter the valve timing? Could it be needing to be run in?
Hello Matt if you can hang on for a day I will send you a full wright up on setting the valve timing.
Thanks for that. It now runs slowly so needed running
Lovely engine! I have the 1 inch minnie, but doesn't like running slow, why is this?
Its down to valve timing, on a small model you need to be very close and very accurate with the way you time them up if you want them to run slowly.
I see your engine runs smoothly and does'nt stop at low speed, but my minnie doesn't, how do you solve this problem?
HI, The pump has a bypass valve that returns the water to the tank when not pumping to the boiler. When the valve is closed the water goes to the boiler feed clack valve. It can be set partly open so some water goes to the boiler and some back to the tank.
How do you set the water pump to fill the boiler?
Hi yes its 80 psi as its a cub tested copper boiler
Ok thanks, is that the same on all the minnies?
What PSI does it blow off at?
Hi, it starts to feather at 75PSI and fully lifts at 85PSI.
Great! Do you start it on wood or charcoal?
Lovely engine! Is this coal fired?
It is coal fired but in the video its running on a meths burner. I cant remember why I put it on meths for that session but it worked ok.
??? What is the point of this video? No description of tool, no display of results, no dialog
To be honest its such a simple set up I didnt see a need for a description or any comment. It os what it says a way of rounding off rod ends. The results in the video and the tools are there to see.
...except you are assuming way too much for people who are looking to LEARN - I have no idea what you're using and someone who did know probably wouldn't need to watch this video. I play drums and I wouldn't post a "how to play drums" video with me just sitting behind the kit playing, even though you could see everything I was doing and using. If your intention is to show "how-to", then you please offer more than a soundless demonstration - what is the tool called?
where do you but these engines from?
Hello Ben, You dont buy them you build them from scratch. Pretty much every part of that engine was made by me from metal stock. Its about 3000 hours work.
It's a beautiful engine, a piece of industries art, our family own an old fair ground engine (full size) and I don't understand how the kid managed to keep his hands so clean!, please tell me that when the video stopped recording that the kid kept driving and got his hands real dirty XD
I love Traction engines :)
Seems like a lot of work and take a longgggggggggggggggg... time. no wonder many ask for hundreds of $ for 1 stock, even laser checkering take less than 30 mins. and it look a thousand times better.
KT Chang Laser is OK but the points on the diamonds are never sharp and it always looks laser cut. I have re cut three lots of laser cut checkering for the simple reason it dont have the grip hand cut checkering has.
Maximum respect for hand checkering. What an art.
You have to love the Clarkson Autolock system. I recently learned that KBC Tools stocks a great selection of threaded end mills for the chuck.
Great looking Major Beam. It is not possible to build that engine from raw castings in 30-40 hours.
Yes you can I managed and I have plenty of people including the owner that will vouch for the fact.
I can see some time saving by making a dozen or so parts for the parallel linkage. My Major Beam has about 67 parts just in the parallel linkage. You might also have used off the shelf studs nuts and bolts and still.... If you got that done in 30-40 hours, that is nothing short of amazing. Your engine is painted a great color and it looks really nice. Nice work!
reddrryder Hi, No all the studs are studs and not threaded rod. The motion took a bit of time as did the keys and cotters but once set up most of the parts are a few minutes each. The castings were chilled in a lot of places including the cylinder so that was roughed out and an iron liner machined and shrunk in. I would mention that in the same year I made the beam I also made 15 other St engines one being a Victoria thats on my youtube site. I was also in the middle of building my 4 inch Mclaren road loco and that took me a month over a year to build. Theres a big difference doing this for a living to doing it for a hobby, every hour has to count or the money dont come in. Thank you for the compliment on the colour. the customers wife wanted the engine to match her curtains and it did. The engine is brush painted with Craftmaster enamel paint.
that's awesome good job
Hello Simon, The Fowler was generating and had been for about two hours. If you watched it in person its smooth even and one of the better ones I have seen. The telephone I used to record the video buggers the sound.
Great vid, nice to see one of these run on the road as you dont see that much now.
It doesn't run as smooth as it could, but it's still a beauty.
One question whys the boys hands so clean mine never stay clean running our 3 inch burrell
Hello Marcus, Yes the 1 inch Minnie will pull an adult but you have to have good flat ground and in truth a gas or meths burner rather than trying to work with a coal fire. It will never give you the power you need to drive easily but as a once in a while thing its good fun. If you have a look at my other videos you will find my 2 inch Minnie, now that will pull a good load and has on occasion pulled three adults again on good ground. Kind regards Kevin
hi I live here in Isreal have been here for over 25 years , started building a jubilee 31/2 live steam train , I brought it over here with me, hoping that one day I could finish the build , but alas , after so many years of working, building a family buying a house , etc , deceided to sell it , my luck was that a friend of mine had been given a box full of castings and a set of drawings , for a minnie , yours is a very nice build , I wanted to know If they can pull a big grown up kid (me) ?
Is this your latest one Kevin?
lol!! sorry a wierd person was on my acount! lovly model!! :)
Hi, about a year or so if memory serves. Im three more engines down the line from that one so the time scales tend to blend in a bit. I made a lot of changes to the drawings when I scaled from 1 inch to the foot to two inches to the foot. If I had just doubled all the sizes it would have run but not that well The boiler and the valve set up are the most important things to not just double. Cheers Kevin
thats awesome. for a little engine it has a good pick up. how long did it take you to build? ]
nice engine, if you decide to sell let me know. thanks
HI the McLaren was scratch built from drawings and casting and not from a kit. The castings are available if you want the link let me know. I would say that the Mac wants some seriouse machinery to build it. Cheers Kevin
Hi Kevin, Which kit did you use to build the Mac? It's very impressive
what a brilliant sound
Thank you me dear, dont forget you helped as well x
