Great pickin. Love it. Takes me back to a bluegrass festival just outside Crossville TN. In 1994 when I lived in Crossville working construction n in the rock quarrys.

Thank you very helpful! You are very talented!
I met Roger Sprung back in 2007 at one of his jam sessions.... then I studied under him for the next 6 years... banjo, guitar and singing... thanks for this amazing video!
Spoiled by the white head in the way.
Still amazing and a gem! Thanks for sharing this on YT
Jack of Diamonds is a great tune.
The fact she did this with very cheap and simple supplies and still managed to pull off a wonderful drawings, perfect job.
I love Elizabeth. There, I said it! Thanks for posting this program, it's excellent.
Tyyyy!!!
Ty mean thank you
I would love to have seen Roy Clark sitting in with a group like this, just to see how his abilities matched up with their styles.
Are you kidding! Roy Clark was a great player. Find some recordings.
Very nice flower drawing! Cheers from a fellow artist ❤️
Wow. So much history. Good way of explaining the styles and playing as yourself. Thanks, Bobby Taylor
I just have a question. What brand violin “fiddle” do most bluegrass players use?
Billy, Unfortunately there are no good answers to this. As there are bluegrass players, there are that many fiddles. Many start with pretty cheap instruments as kids. As they get better and as their ears and fingers improve over say 5-10 years, they get better instruments that match or even challenge their skills- frequently built by luthiers in their region or what they can afford or what they find at music festivals. Most non-professional BG players do NOT play high end brand name instruments and this is for several reasons. (1) They don't have the money, (2) there is a price point beyond which the choice of an instrument is up to the individual. These great players can make great music from plywood! (3) they don't get a discount on the price of the instrument. Best answer I can give you is the more you play, the more you know what you'd like to play and understand how much of what limits you is you vs the instrument!
Spoiled by a mans head right in front of the banjo so couldn’t see a thing ,shame
"Off with his head!"
Got chills ! Beautifully done!
Very good video! Very interesting, and well done!
Thumbs up from Scotland great stuff
Nice job!
beautiful
I got two of Kyle's Banjos he made and his brother made them also. His brother used to sell music instruments at the Galax fiddlers conventions. You get around in those areas they pop up for sale. One of those banjos is fretless and it has a white Formica fingerboard and peghead overlay. The Formica is the same stuff that's put on kitchen counter tops. Kyle always put the headstock star on at a angle as far as I know. A lot of Kyles brothers are passed off as his brothers these days. But his brother made good sounding banjos also. These old time guys played on homemade and inexpensive instruments.
What about the Clifford Glenn and Frank Proffit style banjos?
It sounds like it's time for another exploration of luthiers expanding further out into the Virginia and North Carolina mountains! Clifford and his father Glenn were important banjo and dulcimer makers, and the mountain style fretless banjos made by Frank Proffit and others since have definitely been influential, especially in the western North Carolina region.
Every style of music is important to our History and to Music .
I love the older styles of playing , it's where today's music gets its start . Glad they made this video .
Ramond Fairchild
I love Ivy's playing and the guy on the right. Very nice up beat bluegrass. I would love to go to a blue grass festival.
Is Kirk playing one of those new Round Peak Lowgap banjos that Kevin Fore's making?
I think it is one of Kevin's banjos. He started making them about 10 years ago, and then took a break for a while and just started back again. Kirk's banjo would be from that earlier period.
Gotta mention Charlie Poole! Eden, NC!
Great rhythm guitar by Jeremy Stephens!
Hi, all great fiddler players! Yayyyyy! Great musicians! I enjoyed listening to all of you! But, WOW, Corina Lapstone, that seemed like a really hard piece to play and you took it by the bull's horns, and came out playing it BEAUTIFULLY! Thnx for sharing! 'Keep-On-A-Rocking-And-A-Rolling!' :)
Great stuff. Thanks so much!
Guy's head is right in front of Ivy Sheppard's banjo, can't see what she was doing.
not the most nimble camera work, so it's up to your ears to figure out what she's doing...
If I could do it wqith my ears I wouldn't need to see it with my eyes! lol
Rex Hamann aq1
Great Music! A lot of talent in that room. Gotta love Galax.
Interesting, thanks! I guess the discussion on "dulcimers" is confusing to me as usually people are talking about a type of zither including "lap" or "appalachian" dulcimer? There is so much of it that when you refer to the original instrument by the name (the common hammered dulcimer) you have to add a description.
Very interesting and educational to a new bluegrass person
It's hard to sit still when watching this video. Great video, great music.
Got GOOSEBUMPLES!!
never knew rain and snow wasn't written by Grateful Dead! Love this!!
rain and snow gave me chills. wow. amazing!!!
this is good stuff to watch and learn
totally awesome that these folks can present the heritage of American music
unfortunately there is a man sitting directly in front of Ivy's banjo so could not see most of her playing .. other than the chord fingering...too bad..
It is a russian style of the singing, called the "STRADANIA"...
like layers of voice?
Yes, and in the essence of the text too!
This is what it is all about!!! Thank you for posting.
"Rain and Snow" superb performance by Elizabeth LaPrelle.
Thank you for your kind words. We are blessed with talented folks and honored to host them all.
Beautiful and amazing talent!
