    Very cool, Im more curiouse to know how a bootloader works what it does and why hasnt stm32 done this for convenience? On the otherhand im flashing fine on my stm32 clone(ch32) through its usb port without an additional bootloader although i have to use their tool for flashing. But after all that i found the stlink actually more convenient since i dont have to unplug and reset jumpers everytime like i have to with usb. Its a miracle i havent lost the jumpers the amount of time its popped out on its own while trying to take it out, its not a matter of if, but when...

      After you flash the bootloader you need to hook it back up to the TTL converter and select the COM port and then try uploading in arduino IDE. It then begins to flash something else and it will finally work.

  • @c2h7
    @c2h7 Před rokem

    Nice work! Have you actually tested this board with 3.3v VCC? I'd recommend a 74HCT595 for 3.3v logic (the HC version works at 3.3v but then also only outputs 3.3v) and still power it from 5V so the MOSFETS are still driven by 5V. The MOSFETS you use are (I think?) not "logic level" ones and not rated for 3.3V VGS operation. They will probably still work, but with lower current and higher resistance. Probably not an issue with this application, but by choosing slightly different MOSFETS you can get 10A+ per channel out of them. I'm currently designing something similar and planning to use IRLR8726. One thing I'm not sure of yet, is if I can drive 8 MOSFETS at the same time with one HC595. I'd really like to also drive some 0805 LED's with the output pins, they can be pretty dim, just to see what's switched. But I'm unsure if I can sufficiently so that with ~10mA current without additional BJT's, which I'd like to avoid.

    • @CalebMarting
      @CalebMarting Před rokem

      I only ever ran it with 5 volts so it should have been fine. I ran all the outputs simultaneously just fine, mosfets are voltage-based so as long as you have a sufficient resistor to limit current surge I think you should be fine

    I have to add some clarifications. I run Arduino IDE 2.0.3 and at bottom there is the display "Generic STM32F4 series [not connected]". Also before pressing the upload button, no COM Port ist shown in Windows 10 (but with reset and boot, STM32 BOOTLOADER ist shown in Windows device manager, this means the board is recognized) . When upload process is successfully finished, then STM32 BOOTLOADER disappears and a COM Port appears. Arduino (or STM32 Cube Programmer) finds COM Port automatically, so no setting before is possible. Sometime it is necessary to figure out such behavior, to prompt newbees to go forward, when there is no real error in red ist shown.

    You realise the USB port works as a USB port, right? You realise that nobody outside of bedrooms uses serial for programming and debug. Most people use JTAG or similar and a proper professional IDE with code step, variable watch and disassembly etc. etc. As an example, enabling the USB port in your project and setting it up as a CDC VCom port gives you a serial IO over USB in your actual project. Not sure about the F103 but the F411 will certainly accept USB Audio over the USB port. So don't waste it on a USB programmer interface, that's weird. Go buy an STLink, it's like $1.99!
