    It's interesting that Germany's saving rate is relatively low. I wonder if it's lower in 2022 than it was in most years before. Average wages are surprisingly low here, but for a long time the cost of living was too. With Covid both sides of the equation were impacted. In 2020/ 2021 many people's income reduced drastically. Around the same time (especially in 2022/ 2023) the cost of living went up substantially. So I wonder if the relatively low savings rate is due to these factors. Did you come across any statistics on how the saving rates of different countries evolved over time?

      Thanks for the insightful comment! I pulled the numbers from the link below. If you select Germany, you can observe how the savings rate has evolved over time. Interestingly, it has remained fairly constant and is very similar before the pandemic (2019) and afterwards (2022) - around 11%. I am surprised as well - my perception as well is that salaries have increased at a lower rate than living costs. It may be that people have responded by spending a bit less in non-essential areas.. data.oecd.org/hha/household-savings.htm#indicator-chart

    Great video! I've been trying to keep track of my monthly expenses and come up with a bit of a budget, but I find it tricky to account for one time expenses (like holiday flights etc.).. Some months are so much more expensive because of these one time expenses and then my "monthly allowance" doesn't add up anymore.. Any advice how to handle those out of the ordinary months?

      Thanks! I agree, recording these one-time expenses can be a bit frustrating. For unusually large expenses I’d recommend spreading them out over time. So, for a large holiday or for annual bills I normally divide by 12 and then continue recording that expense for the next year. That simple trick will allow you to maintain a sense of control and determine whether you are within your budget.
