Both..they built them through the 70's & possibly early 80's as required....The construction company that runs them was originally a Komatsu-owned company also.

These have been in use in Japan for a long time. I lived in Japan in the 70's along the coast near Zushi . There was an old guy who had one of these machines and he would drive it up and down the beach from town to town cleaning out these mooring areas for the local fishermen. It was a lot of fun to watch.
I wonder how long it can run out of the water without overheating?? The cooling system must depend on the water surrounding it.
It would be a bitch to work on if it ran out of fuel whilst underwater or worse yet had a serious mechanical break down....

I doubt there's cameras - you wouldn't be able to see anything with all the silt being stirred up. Skilled operators I guess.

Since the tsunami, they've never been busier...all 5 remaining machines were fully restored & rebuilt...very efficient dozers...
