Wow, Keighley looked better when this was filmed. The town actually looks decent, cleaner, better cared for and lively. It appears pretty decent and like people enjoy being out in Keighley. Now it is run down, depressivlng, dreary, high street on the decline, the town could do with a facelift and there are druggies about with the police often seen. I wouldn't stay in this town now. It is a deadend place.

My dad went to Keighley technical college before becoming a mechanic and opening his own garage in Keighley. We left Keighley in 1975 when my parents emigrated to New Zealand.

Actually, the structure at the end of Grange Road is not the only surviving surface air-raid shelter in Keighley. My garden in Riddlesden has a small private shelter, as does my next door neighbour's - built from brick with a flat concrete roof.

To ALL Watching, Who Know Keighley, very Close to Steeton Train Station, Was a Huge WW2 Munitions Factory Making Bombs & Bullets etc in WW2. This was A very Closely Guarded Secret. It was Built OUT of KLY, in case the Germans Discovered it & heavily bombed it. also in case of accidental Explosions etc. Single Storey Very Secure & Strongly Built buildings. LOW Height Buildings, So they Could Probably Camoufage them very Effectively. If they Bombed the place, All the bombs that missed would land in open Fields. Only the Old cottages would have existed back then. All these Clever Tricks Helped us Win WW2. Our Manufacturing of WW2 Essentials was Scattered all over the country. The Germans Could NEVER Find all of them, or attack All of them. Lots of Little Factories & Not so Little Factories Dotted all over. Delivering Wartime Jobs for All, All over the industrial Regions. Taking the Jobs to the Workforce. We Should be Doing Exactly THIS PLAN NOW, in March 2021, Virus times & After Brexit to Massively Reduce Foreign & EU imports & to Support UK Workers Jobs. ANYJOB is a Good Job. Any Business that can pay it's overheads is a Good Business with Potential to Grow in the Near Future.

Interesting you mentioned Casterwood been a Roman encampment......There is a story that the 9th Roman legion of 5000 men was destroyed by the Britns in Keighley, im from Ingrow and grew up playing in the Woods as a child but I never once Heard that there might be a Roman camp there...the legion camped at Ulcric in Keighley as far as I now and that's supposed to be somewhere between Marley playing field and east riddlesden hall, 5000 legionnaires killed...I'll investigate more, thank you

Hi Hajji. My late father is the person narrating the video and we lived just below where the walk starts from. I have heard before the mentions of Romans in the Marley area, and some roman finds in the same spot in an E-book called Ancient Bingley or Bingley, its history and scenery by Joseph Horsfall Turner, it can be found on line as a free download. Its a long read but has some real gems of information. It does mention that there was a bridge at Marley in Roman times. Hope the search goes well. Andrew

@@wako194 Hello there's really interesting thank you for replying to my comment, I'm.so sorry to hear of the passing of your father, I often watch his videos, it's nice that he made them, it must bring you great comfort to hear his voice, he had such a beautiful accent I could listen to him for hours, may God rest his soul ...I have never heard of the book you speak about but I'll definitely go read it now thank you, i grew up on Apple street Ingrow we had the land directly across the road with the horses, my uncle was Danny Sommers, they owned the big house that backs onto the woods so I wandered all over there as a kid, I just found out that the woodlands was recently sold for £28.000 to a Asian guy, I'm trying to track him down to make him a offer, if anyone knows him I'd be very grateful for his information, I'm wanting to purchase it and give it to Keighley and get some archaeology done on the areas, I have lots of old books, one called "curious tales of old Yorkshire" by Marie Campbell....the 9th are mentioned as been in Marley in her book also....can't wait for the reference library to reopen and I can get back to investigating, thank you so much for the information, God bless you and yours

Came across this whilst looking through you tube, my mum was born in keighley in 1930 lived on Gladstone street as did her parents, grandparents etc for a few generations, think they dated back to the founding fathers. I spent time there in my late teens, loved it. Always comes back to my thoughts when i think about my family. Thank you to you and your dad God bless him, for sharing!

A friend and neighbour of my mother's (in Canada) was Mary Glazier, an English war bride from Keighley. She married Bill Glazier, a soldier from Canada, and raised six children in Oshawa, Ontario. She just died (Jan. 13, 2017) at age 90.

I met a fellow by the name of Keightley in Brisbane, told him he had his name spelt wrong, showed him my ID with my birthplace of Keighley on it and told him that's how it should be spelt, without the t. He said that the first ancestor they had that went to Australia wasn't very literate and so spelt it that way. So you'll find a branch of them there that spells their name that way, but they are still part of the Keighley clan. That's the sort of thing that happens over time.
