The Best Matte Graphite Pencil: Tips for Graphite Drawing
Amazing tutorial. Thank you! 🤩
Excellent painting and tutorial. Thank you
Hi. Thank you for this really informative video. I struggle with shading, knowing where to leave highlights and the delicacy of transitioning between colours. Maybe it’s just experience but any tips you have would be most appreciated! Thanks
My granddaughter and I enjoyed your video. She likes your drawing and thinks you're very talented.
This looks absolutely gorgeous! I enjoy using mixed media myself. I really love mixing watercolor, alcohol markers, and colored pencils together on one drawing. However, the paper that I use (canson mixed media) doesn't seem ideal for markers, as it seems to dry them out rather quickly and grind at the nibs, which unfortunately makes the drawing look streaky. I also noticed that after a few washes of wet on wet layers of watercolor that the paper had a hard time accepting any colored pencil on top. Do you have any recommendations for paper that can handle both watercolor and alcohol markers? Thank you so much!
Heb je de outline . Dan wil ik je volgen.
Thank you so much. This was very helpful!
Quite amazing! Never did i think that there were so many colours, especially blue! 😊 Which is the blending pencil please?
and brilliant brilliant artworks!
love your voice
I am NOT a fan of burnishing, blender markers or solvents. These either damage the paper and or more often than not result in blotchiness in your blends. The best combination (in my opinion) is Glazing with Neutrals. If you have an iron will and unwavering patience to slowly build up 10-20 layers with a soft hand, you'll achieve amazing blends. A high quality paper and color pencil is also very helpful.
That is incredible! And I didnt even realize there was white ink!!
Thank you. I'm learning so much.
Stunning. I'm going to try this. Got the magic pencils you use.😊
Absolutely stunning. I'm inspired. Greetings fron sunny South Africa.
This is beautiful and you explained it so well! Thank you 😊
Wow! Thank you Jeanette, I so look forward to watching your beautiful work…gifts…and definitely talents! This word-amazing is overused these days but it’s 🎯legit 💯when you make simple colored pencils your lovely co-stars…❤😘
Beautiful colouring! What is stroke 1 and 2? Is it the pressure?
I’m sorry to read what happened to you. Social media can go from the sublime to the ridiculous. Anyway I didn’t even know you were on utube but now that I do I’ve subscribed. I’ve become very impatient wit my layering and need to back up a few steps. Thanks for this Jeanette.
Amazing review! Thank you 🙏
You're my new teacher, Mrs Sirois :) 🍎
What paper would you recommend for color pencil drawings?
Great tutorial, love the way you edit and present info on screen
Your work is so beautiful. I'm really curious about your thoughts on the scale of a piece and how big or small a novice should be working at the beginning of their journey.
Hi and thank you for the kind words. For a novice beginning, keep the scale of your work to one that you anticipate you can keep going on, keep interested in and keep engaged with. I would never tell anyone what scale of a work to draw, even for a novice. That is your personal decision. But do know that a large work can be intimidating, and weird to draw when it’s a large scale. Build your skills, do practice as much as you can, and have fun. Cheers
Maam thank you soo much for teaching blending of colour pencils...I am a patient with severe emotional distress and this video really helped me to calm my mind ...love from India maam
I have the full set of Luminance, but I don’t see a link that says which colors you are using. In the video, it says there is a link in the description box, but the only link is to the Caran D’Ache website or your website. It would be helpful to know which ones you are specifically using. I’m a portrait artist, but I’m recovering from a rough surgery and it’s a long recovery, so I thought I’d use colored pencils since they won’t make a mess I’m in no position to deal with. But I’m trying to understand the medium as it is quite different than what I am used to. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials!
Thank you soo much maam...love from India
❤❤❤
Excellent instruction
Really love this tutorial - so informative- thank you!
Thank you for making this very informative video. I learnt a lot. Quick question: What are the main differences between the burnishing pencils and the blender pencils except that the burnishing pencils push the pigments into the paper more? Does it mean that they effect layering afterwards differently?
WOW! Love it! Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
I am totally mixed media. I start with watercolor and add what ever next. But the lightest area I tape off to get the colors to be true. I love layers! Great video!!!❤
Great, cheers
Awesome tips, thank you. I would love to see this blended too.
I'm not an artist who uses a lot of blending. So you won't see me blending, particularly with solvents very often, it's just not my preference and I still get amazing results without it. But as I tell everyone, I'm just one artist, if blending works for you fantastic. Cheers and thanks for the comment.
@@Drawingwithcolour if I were as talented as you I probably wouldn’t want to blend either lol!
@@Hollowdub LOL I think that is the funniest and most awesome comment I've ever received. Cheers J
So glad you explained when to layer light colors first and when to use dark first. I always hear different opinions and your explanation makes sense. And it's super helpful to see them in action!
You're welcome. Cheers
It is far easier to darken a light background base color than lighten a dark one. To lighten a dark one requires excessive amounts of the light color. Unless one can work with one of the masking media. I've been tempted to try the Pencil and Brush powder but it is my understanding it needs a fixative to work properly.
If your subject is a base dark, it is not as difficult as you actually describe above, I do it all the time and work with the paper to control the levels of dark to light. It actually does NOT require an excessive amount of light colour. For me, it is far easier to work in this manner than build light to the darkest when the overall subject is going to be dark. Layering is the key and not go dark right off the bat at a 4 level. Never use masking media as it is impossible to remove without smearing the coloured pencils. Check my work, you can clearly see from my dark subjects that is definitely not as you might think or as difficult. Cheers
@@Drawingwithcolour I'll give it a try. But l may be fighting the paper.
❤❤❤❤
Fantastic tutorial. Do you have the outline we could print please . Thankyou
In the description, cheers
I have always used Arches hot press. Thank you for this I will try the Fabriano hot press for cp! I have used all of these papers for watercolor, and have to say I have found the Stonehenge to be very fragile in comparison to the other professional brands. Great review! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Cheers
Whoa! - your artwork! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much 😀
Your drawing is beautiful, I am a beginner, I no you gave us swatches but could you give me the colors you used? I have some pencils, but with me being a beginner would like to no colors better....God Bless you, keep doing what you do amazing
Thanks for comment, cheers

Thank you for this review....very helpful.
You are so welcome!
Very helpful, loved it!
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative. Thank you. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I consider myself to be decent at layering and adequate at shading. Often in combination. And l do realize l may have an inflated opinion. But one thing a lot of people who work with color pencils are doing is not art. I know it. You know it. We all know it. I certainly do not consider myself an artist. And one thing we commonly deal with at this level is the paper. If the paper you are using lacks sufficient tooth layering becones almost impossible. Another issue is cheap quality pencils with low pigment levels. These require excessive pressure to lay down any color density which fills the tooth of the paper quickly. I am to the point i want to try pastel pencils in combination with artist grade olored pencils. And blending mediums.
Sounds fun. Cheers
thanks !
You are an incredible teacher Jeannette.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for the tips ma'am. Your tips gained my confidence back in colored pencils. ☺️ Keep making these videos
Fantastic.
Thanks for explaining about the pressure I got it now😊
