nearly missed this one, first ransid we got after the d series was a mk 3 with a body on but not fastened down,we didn't know this at time of purchase of course because everything looked fine, well to cut a long story short it did us proud with just like yours a di,we did have to fit a new headgasket in once and i straightened the rockers on a girder and it carried on another 2 years till it started breaking its back behind the cab,we parked it up and sold it to a bloke called spitting sid who said he was going to make it strong and use it ,next thing we heard was he had gone straight down to sheffield tax office taxed it as a recovery for £75 for the year so mot exempt and went off to pick a granada up,we heard it broke it back on its maiden voyage in his keep. Oh well coastguards problem then wasn't it not ours, sold as seen you seen it we sold it

thanks for the story, this is a story from my father, back in the early 2000s; he had a 1964 land rover series 2a short wheel base which he was modifying for off-roading. he was filling it up with diesel at tesco, there was a teenage in front of him putting petrol in a new bmw m5. the teenage did that & got back in, accidently putting it in reverse so the back of it slammed in to the front of the landy making the bmw a write off, the boy gets out & started yelling at my dad when the shop clerk came out & said "it's on the cameras". so the boy was in trouble because the bmw was his dad's car. so my dad called up the insurance company they asked him "what needs to be replaced ?" my dad said "he just knocked off more paint then i do in a month".

Great story telling and added pics. Who didnt piss off on the first motorized thing they could get their hands on. I was 14 in '66, mum had a Honda 90 Stepthru. When she was at work I would dress up like a granny with a big scarf to hide my hairless chin and ride the thing for hours as far as I could get on .20c worth of petrol. Buying fuel in a country town was weird as they had never seen a Honda yet. When I was discovered, dad hid the key, so I learned how to hotwire it. Then when that came unstuck dad locked the shed so I had to figure out how to unbolt the whole lock off the shed door for even more riding. Finally got stopped when I punched a hole in the crankcase riding it thru a paddock. Dad had an old leather razor strop and I was persuaded after said application but I still have that urge to ride as I had back then as a young teeenager. Had bikes since I was 16.Cheers

6:39 We once got the job of removing a fiat estate from an attached house garage in the early 90's,on opening the garage doors the fiat looked mint in its factory brown,we managed to get air in all its tyres with one of those plunger pumps that came with a new lada, anyway we pulled it out and thought jobs a good un a new ticket and we can sell this once we get it running, only problem was our winch was a big old manual one mounted on our petrol A series and our ramps were a ladder type which made winching hard I got under the car and put the howser round the crossmember and attached the winch wire and started winching, the howser cut through the crossmember like a piece of wire through cheese so that was quickly abandoned We did get the car on,i can't remember how but for a 7 year old dcar its was the rottenest thing i had ever seen underneath Looked round it for things to remove to sell and the best thing on it was a brand new 175x14 remould in the boot so we kept that and took the car straight to the bridge I knew at the time a 175x14 tyre especially a kingpin remouĺd was basically useless in the 1990's as only an austin 1800? Used them and so was the case because 2 years later it was still sat in the corner of the unit brand new looking, but neglected

I bought a Marina van from some Gypsies (don't ask me why) and the windscreen shattered on the way home, lol. I reckon it must have been bent out of shape in a crash. So I drove it to work the next day, with no screen, I took a screen from a scrapper that came in, and fitted it after work. The soft lad who volunteered to help me (unasked), then reversed the van into a reinforced concrete wall in the car park, while I was up in the changing room taking a shower. Upon inspection of the damage, it seems he had dislodged a half hundredweight of filler from the nearside rear corner. The following week, after doing a masterful job of backfilling and painting, I noticed that the gear lever was all over the place and was a bit tricky in selecting the right gear, so rather than mess around, I just whipped a complete engine and gearbox out of another scrapper at work and swapped them over. After that I had a few good months out of it, albeit involving several run-ins with the law; (what is it with driving around in beaten up old vans late at night that attracts the plod?) the last of which resulted in me having to hand my licence back in for a bit. Apart from that, it was a lucky old van!

I foolishly sold the truck complete with the winch for less than the winch was really worth on it's own. As you say, we learn. Best winch i ever had i still have and that is a Pearce hydraulic one fitted to a tilt and slide body. In 20 years i never found any car or small commercial it would not drag. I had one with a box, I thought they were the bees but they were not, I bought a new Tranny in 74 with a Luton and found a trailer same size as the van body, earned a lot of money with it and sold it close to what I paid.

Good evening. The best A series i ever came across was one with a V6 3 litre in it. Guy who owned it had built a very smart timber horsebox body. Being the petrol engine it was thirsty but very reliable.

i also had an A series beaver in the 80s, rotten 1975 model, it was never without a fault it permanently had 5 cylinders [no4 inlet valve burnt, popping away all day], constantly died due to air in fuel, worst example, came home from london to newcastle at 23mph, and the best one, the front wheel-bearing collapsed and the front wheel/drum rolled down the road, flattening a chelsea pensioner on armistace day... and a tirfor hand winch to boot...

Hello there. Cheers for watching. My own experiences with the 6 cylinder York versions were not positive either. There is a story coming later on in the series about a tipper i was given(!) by a builder if i just "Got the bloody thing out of my garden" as he put it! Say's it all really. Take care.

I have a dear friend who was a fitter all of his working life. Worked for many years in one of the local quarries. He once told me that come autumn time, his gaffer would send him to the local chemists to buy ether in bulk as it was far cheaper than tins of easy start! They would then use it on all the Rustons! 91 he is now and still driving his Morris Minor.

What's your issue with Mark Fowler, then eh? Poor bastard died of HIV... 'ave some respect! No, the Ford A Series was a dog, I remember a few lads had them. The tranny was a winner, though.... strange that. D series was good as well, but it was always outshone by the TK. Good format, great content... you had me creased up!

Good morning. Poor old Mark Fowler. He never had much luck! Even before he was Mark Fowler, as Tucker in Tuckers luck. His motorbike got nicked and ridden into the canal. See link. czcams.com/video/J5RChYzbvBo/video.html A tenuous stretch for the photo in my video but i loved the series so allow me that :) The Transit's biggest asset was it's engines. Who can fault the 2L Pinto or the Di? Not me. Always thought Bedford missed a trick not making the TK cab tip where Ford did. Cheers for watching and glad to make you smile. Take care.

I love your videos, especially how much time you spend putting the photos to match the commentary. You should have loads more viewers. Touchwood it will happen.

Bless you. Thank you. I do the pictures like a word/mind association thing from my head back to the time i am remembering from. Hopefully it makes the autobiography flow better. I am just pleased people like to listen/watch. It's meant to feel like i am just a fella you have bumped into in the back room of a country pub, talking about years ago whilst the fire blazes and the ale flows :) Take care.
