Grew up in Philly. Got to see him play many times at the Spectrum. Grover Washington Jr. composed a song for him and was often invited to play the national anthem before tip off. Got his autograph after a playoff loss to the Celtics (I think) along with Mo Cheeks’. The energy of that arena & the caliber of that team shaped part of my childhood. Doc was one of the greatest ambassadors the game ever had & the younger generations think MJ created the game; love that this video shows that his dunk was a mirror copy of Doc’s. A humble phenomenal player. Can’t think of another player who got a farewell’tour’ like Julius….
Many are taller but can't equal or surpass him.
Tom brady sucks bigtime....

My idol, Dr.J,, my dad used to take me to Commack arena, , to watch him, met him, & talked to him along with Rick Barry & super John Williamson, Larry, Keenan, great team, Brian Taylor, etc. He went to Rucker, later on, he played right outside his apartment, in Roosevelt.
Posterized Cooper. Turned him to stone. S/B called the Medusa dunk
!13!
!
Doc carried the ABA, and he saved the NBA until Bird and Magic could come along and advance it. Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest player ever (sorry, Michael), but Julius is the most important NBA player of all time. Remember, Julius was always known as a dunker, yet he wasn't allowed to dunk in college. Still, he dominated. Look at the highlights of him vs. Denver. He was doing all that stuff against the greatest defender of all time, Hall of Famer Bobby Jones. His dunks on Walton--a true 7-footer (don't believe how he was listed) were epic. Yes, Julius was spectacular. In moments. But in most games he'd quietly rack up points. You'd look up and realize he had 30 points before you even knew it. 1983? Fo, fo, and fo. (Almost.) And who is he hugging in 1983? His old defensive nemesis, Bobby Jones. Yes, Doc was amazing. There has NOT been someone like him since. But let's not forget The Hawk, Connie Hawkins. The Hawk was 6'8", had huge hands, and could glide and dunk like no one before him. He was so much the forerunner for Dr. J. Erving never led the NBA in scoring.
I'm a player ❤
"rock the baby"
I Think 🤔 Wilt is the 2nd BEST Player AFTER MJ. Too Bad I Never SAW 👀 Him PLay
To me he will always be The G.O.A.T. of Basketball.
Great show on the GOAT. I had the honor of covering (huh, or trying to) Julius in practice as a freshman at UMass during the 68 69 season. I think he was only 6' 4" at the time. My brother John Fultz who played at University of Rhode Island had great battles with Julius when John was a senior and Julius a sophomore. URI beat us at home and Umass beat URI at their home. As I recall they both scored in the high 20s with 15 or so rebounds. My brother had a contract offer from the Lakers but went on to have a great career in Italy elevating basketball in Italy and Europe. He still holds records there. Julius mistakenly wrote in his book that he had battles with a player from Providence College but that was mistaken. PC had nobody to challenge him at that time. The battles were with my brother. Great video and memories. Thanks, Bob Fultz
In regards to Dr. J's college career, he had to save his dunking for Rucker Park because the "Lew Alcindor Rule" (which prohibited dunking) was in effect.
He was a track n field star before playing basketball 😮.. A 7 foot track star turn basketball player what else could go wrong.. His minutes per game in one season 48.9 and 46.8 overall, average to me is the most impressive record he owns.. There will never be another athlete like Wilt Chamberlain period!! They don't make them like that anymore! Today's players are too soft and their overlord bosses wouldn't allow it 🤔. 🇺🇸 1st 4ever
10 reasons: 1.the record book says so 2.bill Russell says so 3.#1 rebounder all time 4.#1 scoring average all time 5.#1 minutes played average all time 6. Oscar Roberston said so 7.the NBA changed 5 rules to stop him 8. Holds career records for 3 different teams 9.led team to 33 straight wins 10. Ended bostons 8 titles in a row Ain’t you glad you didn’t ask for 50 reasons?
His career high is incorrect. It was 64 point against the Kentucky Coronels and Artis Gilmore. I know cause I was a kid and had to finish the game with no sound on and the lights off to watch the end because it was a school night and I was supposed to be sleeping.
All of em are my favorite! I was blessed to grow up watching him! So cool! And still the man in my book. The others cant compare. Class and humility... thats the difference
Kobe was the closest thing ever to Jordan that we witnessed. Lebron can't even fill one of Jordans shoes.
HE. WAS Simply THE BEST EVER HANDS. DOWN JUST FACT
I needed to see this video 😂😂😂😂
James so much wants to be MJ that he even changed his number to 23....... sorry tool, you are still not the GOAT, and not even in the top 10
My favorite was the around the Lakers twin towers finger roll into the basket
😂😂
The tomahawk dunk over a retreating Michael Jordan is my favorite
The dunk on Michael cooper
2023 cumming into 2024 and LeFLOP still is a choker and a biiiiiaaach
It’s not a joke if it actually happens, 😂 Congratulations to LeFlop for his 5000th turnover.
Dr J OG Goat Respect Amen you forgot when he slammed on artis Gilmore
Most of these aren't "moments" and you clearly don't know what polarizing means.
Crybaby of a QB Peyton Manning all day
Did bill Walton even jump. Come on is this as high as walton can jump
That was pretty damn good
I can give you 10 reasons WNC is the greatest ever & they have nothing to do with your 10 !
That 72 laker team Wilt-McMillan-Hairston-Goodrich & West!
That 76ers championship team: wilt-Jackson-Walker-jones & Greer!
Worst QB of all time. Needed the refs every time he needed to go to the Superbowl
Why do you guys keep saying LeBron sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He does not
Dr J invented all the air flying dunks that Jordan copied cause Jordan couldn't do anything of his own
He was just such a very very cool and smooth dude too. So classy! So glad I got to see him play (just on tv) when I was young. The whole ABA thing was so cool---red, white, blue basketball, the Afro, etc. He is my favorite basketball player ever! It was just awesome!
You could see Michael Cooper's face on that dunk thru the back of his head. He was like ".....oh...HELL no.."
Thank you.... I'm from Boston and I can't stand Tom Brady!!! He left like a thief in the night to go to Tampa and when he retired twice from Tampa he didn't say one single thing about the fans the personnel the staff in New England nothing that's why I don't care for Tom Brady I really will never care for the guy he's a piece of 💩
No...he is not! 5 reasons why! 1 - he changed his name. 2 - he had no title for a decade almost...and had one not playing. It is Magic who bruouht it to him without him in a final game...a rooookie. 3 - he was never an all star MVP...ok, I understand that this is not the most important game in a world. But at least once in 20 apearances....come on man. 4 - 1986 WCF - he was destroyed and humilated by Olajuwon and Sampson. Totally! Because he was 39? So? Stop playing if you can't any more. 5 - nobody ever wanted him as a coach...never. Why? Because.
The most memorable dunk for me was Rock The Cradle Dunk, best of all time.
Facts
The look on his face when dunked on Michael Cooper, I will always remember. He was not going to be denied.
Who were his vather?
Nobody played like that until a few years later, but it was happening in street tournaments games,, and I pick up games..
