How to Change Engine Oil on Volkswagen 2.0T FSI BPY
A quick DIY tutorial on changing oil on a BPY engine. Apologies for skipping torquing down the plug and filter as there is not much filming room under the car. On the side of engine oil container is a meter that shows how much oil is left in the container. You use that to know how much oil you have added to the engine. Check the dipstick on flat level terrain to recheck it. I ended up adding the entire 5 quarts to get the oil level to the full mark.

People often crack these horrible covers especially around the oil fill cap. This video shows you how to take it off without breaking it and having to spend a fortune buying another cover. what oil you use?
Would you rather use ramps? Than jack and stands ?
I have a mk5 gti tfsi engine, what eng oil should i use
@@AlexNorway-z5z i would check the owners manual to confirm. But the oil i used should be good for that model too. 5w-40 european spec full synthetic oil that meets the vw standard. Verify with your owners manual.

I would rather spend my off day doing this than paying someone $200 to change out the oil and the filter, and tbh it doesn't look that difficult if you've got the right tools. Granted, you do make it look easy lol

Thanks bro! By the way I noticed that you also have a little oliy cover of the cam chain (next to the fuel pump) is that something I should worry about?
It is usually the vacuum pump that starts leaking a little bit. You can either replace the o ring inside or the entire pump. Iwould repair it to avoid it leaking on electrical connectors.

@@kufal22 I had time today to reseal the vacuum pump. Its a fairly easy job just be careful with some of the hoses and wiring around that area. I watched humblemechanic's diy if you want to check it out. I hope you're able to fix your issue.
@@admirbasic2206 you ve been driving with this leak for over two years?😅 Didn't you have any problems related to that? I think that's why my oil had that petrol smell... I'll definitely check the video, thanks!
@@kufal22 I would barely call it a leak. Never even dripped on the ground. Just got the surrounding area a little oily. My valve cover and oil filter housing leaked so much worse. And the oil leak housing was $$$ to fix compared to the other leaks.
Does anyone have any idea if the “retainer post” in the center of the oil filter cap is important? I had a shop change my oil today and they reported back to me that the post in the center that holds the filter in is broken off of the filter cap. It’s an 07 Passat and it doesn’t seem that I can order just the post, it seems as though the post is built into the cap, so I’d have to buy a new cap entirely and the new cap is $212 from the dealership and although I can buy them online for about $15-30, I’ve heard they’re all garbage and leak after a few miles if they don’t leak straight from the manufacturer. Any help or input would be nice, I really can’t afford to replace the filter for $200 and I really don’t want to cause any damage to the engine by running it without that post if that’s possible
If you can buy the part just to replace the broken cap I would do that as a temporary fix and then eventually replace the whole filter assembly. I had mine recently leak oil. 4 hr job at the shop plus the 150 dollar part so not cheap. I replaced the entire assembly for piece of mind not having to worry about it for a long time.
Thanks for making this video. I am new to VWs, and just acquired an 07 Passat with this 2.0T FSI engine and its so different from the American cars in many ways. By the way, is that the turbocharger diverter valve right next to the oil filter housing? I believe mine is in need of a new one, but im, not sure where it is, but that kinda looks like the part right there next to the oil filter housing...
I'm not sure because I had my mechanic replace it years ago the turbo diverter valve. I had to replace mine because it was leaking air and my check engine light came on. P0299 underboost condition. The new diverter valve from piersburg fixed it. Thats the OEM part.
Extremely hard to remove cover from the mount, requiring excessive amount of force, don't think that it will come of as easy as in this video

Thank you. Although the dealer has a lot easier time dealing with oil changes than I do because they have better tools like a lift which makes the job so much easier rather than crawling under the car.

Hi,i got an EOS 2006 with FSI engine 2l i think it's non turbo,but is the same operation and same filter??? Also do i need 5L of oil? thanks
get 5 and use 4,5 the rest you can add after the engine burns some oil off

Yeah 30nm torque
Pro tip: you can use brake clean to removed spilled oil from engine parts. I have this exact same engine in my 2007 Jetta and changing the oil is always a mess. Being a bigger guy, I like to roll my car up on ramps and then use jack with a block of wood on sub-frame behind the engine to raise the car way up and then place jack stands.
Brake clean is awesome stuff. Every home garage should have one. Gotta use some soon to clean a bunch of oil after I get my oil filter leak fixed.
WD-40 and some elbow grease is so much safer in the engine compartment. I would not use brake clean. Other cleaners and degreasers sure, but brake clean is a very heavy duty thing. I would not use it here.
I've never seen a problem with brake clean. Obviously, the engine is not running nor is it hot. The stuff cleans very well and it evaporates quickly.
I know you said 1/2-3/8 adapter...but **what size is that Nut your trying to Turn ?** (its hugh) !
The drain plug is a 19mm bolt. The oil filter is 36mm. I used a 36mm oil filter removal tool to get it off. Since I needed my breaker bar to take it off since it was really tight, I had to use that adaptor to fit the 36mm tool onto my breaker bar to loosen the filter.
Hello, what did you mean by place the jack stand on a solid piece of metal? Do you mean they can break if you place them in a different area?
Yeah if you put the jack stand on a non secure part of the bottom and you then lower your jack the stand will go through the floor board of the vehicle. @@admirbasic2206 Everything we touch under the hood and undercarriage is very carcinogenic. Gasoline + Oil + Grease + Heavy Metals. It's all under the car. Not as much HM these days, but they're still there.

Is it possible to permanently take this off or do you have to put it back on?
It is if you can find an aftermarket air box. A lot of people with Volkswagen GTIs with this engine put cold air intakes on which removes the factory cover air box assembly. Just realize if you do decide to go that route, the car has to be tuned to accept the new airbox in otherwise the check engine light will stay on because the air flow detected by the maf sensor will be thrown off. Otherwise stock, the cover has to stay on as that is where the air filter is. Stupid design that makes changing the filter a pain.
