Overland Silk Road: 2 years 70000 Km solo road trip in our van from Europe to Japan and back
A road trip that proved much more challenging than we expected.
This short movie will give you a taste of what we have been through.
Our goal was to visit as many remote places as possible and spend time with locals as much as we could to learn about what they have been through in the past and the way they live nowadays. It’s been an incredibly enriching experience.
We ended up driving and living around the following nations:
Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia And Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Kurdistan, Abkhazia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Artsakh Republic (Nagorno-Karabakh), Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Siberia, Korea, Japan, Jewish Autonomous Oblast, Buryatia Republic, Mongolia, Altai Republic, Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Kalmykia, Chechen Republic, Dagestan, Nakhchivan Republic, Romania, Ukraine, Transnistria, Moldova, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, France.
Main challenges have been: Cancelled visas, some countries with date-specific visas forcing us to be at a border on a specific day and therefore having to kind of plan our whole trip backwards, rough off-road tracks in remote areas, harsh climate ranging from +47c in Iran to -27c in Siberia. Seasons were also an important factor, even though it is not possible to be in every spot at the best time of the year, seasons can definitively enlighten or ruin your trip!

This is a short movie about the 20th and 21st days of our trip through southern Burma (Chaungtha beach to Kawthoung on Dec2014/Jan2015). According the local immigration, we were the first foreigners to be allowed to drive our own motorbikes through southern Tanintharyi region between Myeik and Kawthaung. The zone is still off limits to foreigners using their own means of transport. This is the ...
It’s nice to see someone in a van travelling and not just another 4x4 👍👍👍
Why you have not mentioned Russia as a country that you have visited? You have traveled through a dozen of our regions and states - Altai, Chechnia, Dagestan, etc. are all parts of the country called Russia. Don't be shy, no one will judge you for making friends with people of Russia❤
How did you drive through Korea? Isn’t the northern border completely closed to foreign drivers?
Amazing video but there is no such place as Kurdistan in the republic of Turkish
you labeled turkish territory as kurdistan. what are you on about?
Beautiful! What an amazing journey, a true adventure! Definitely something on my bucketlist!
Nice video but you should try and get out and about more.......
There is no place called Kurdistan in Turkey.
NOT KURDİSTAN ITS TÜRKİYE 🇹🇷 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
Why did you add such a country to Turkey? There is no country called Kurdistan and it is not within our borders, that's why I condemn you.
How did you get from Korea to japan with the van because I can’t find out how on and online it says you can’t drive from North Korea to South Korea even
Hi, driving through North Korea is sometimes possible, but takes a lot of paper work and is very expensive. DBS ferry went bankrupt, Duwon took over. www.dwship.co.kr/en/main/ With them you can go from Vladivostok to Donghae and Maisuru in Japan. Another route is from Busan to Shimonoseki with Pukwan: www.pukwan.co.kr/?language=en If you need help, I recommend contacting Mr Youn (Assured Sea&Air) at +82 10 2474 2658 (WhatsApp and Kakaotalk). He is a really cool guy and helped dozens of travellers shipping their vehicles to Korea and beyond.
Oh wow what an amazing journey 😍 we are planning to make a similar journey. May I ask you couple practical questions?
Hi, thanks for your kind comment. I can only recommend such a trip 😊. If you have any question, don't hesitate!
Thank you 🙏🏻 we will definitely be learning from your route and still watching if Azerbaijan will open its land borders anytime soon. But our question was more about insurance( that would cover your vehicle and it’s transport back to home in case of total breakdown) did you have one? We can’t seem to find any company that offers it in those countries. Thanks ahead for reply, Best wishes
👌
Imagine trusting a Fiat to take a roadtrip
He he, I had similar worries when I bought the camper, but in the end it turned out to be an extremely reliable vehicle! 🙏🏻😉
Nice

Great video! What happened to the right back side of your van?
hit by a large truck in some mountains of Kyrgyzstan! i thought the trip was over, but wheels were still turning, so we just drove on and found a guy with a good hammer to do some cosmetics lol
Hi, Congratulation, that's an amazing trip you had! Did you have any mechanical issues traveling in a van on rough terrain? I'm wondering if a van can handle it or if it's better to travel with a tougher offroad vehicle
the most epic adventure
You’ve been travelling through North Korea with van???
A kde je teda celá cesta v jednom videu? Bůh ví, jak to bylo :D
Quick note, there is no Kurdistan in Turkey.
Thanks for sharing! I am from the U.S., but I am planning to have my RV shipped to Europe & do what you have done. I'm glad to know it is a possibility. I look forward to exploring more of your videos.
Why not more videos? This is like a teaser
Where's the full trip report? This is illegal, you can't just upload a teaser like this and then not follow up on it.
Thank you for an excellent video! That is a fantastic achievement!
Hey man you missed to list another country of the Silk Road, that is China and you did passed into on your way back.

Türkiyenin doğusu kürdistan değil TÜRKİYE
Why do you indicate the republics that are part of Russia in the route, but do not mention Russia itself in any way?
Hello, name of the song of the credits please ?

How exactly did you drive through North Korea?
WOW ! Simply WOW ! I'm just in the initial stage of a similar project and when I see these images it really motivates me to bring it to reality, even though there will be tough moments for sure.
