    I've got a soft spot for this plant too. Yes, contact of growing points to damp soil is key. My method is: straighten out a paper clip, bend it double to hair-pin shape. I stake the leaf closely against the soil, pinning either side of the central vein at the leaf base. The clips can be re-used over and over. The two small holes made in the leaf are harmless. The wet mother leaf dies as the roots form, but the resulting plant is strong.

    I felt that the pole was a little top heavy for the smaller plant, bc as the girl tried to let go, it started to tip over.

    • @ThePlantFarmSpokane
      @ThePlantFarmSpokane Před rokem

      We understand how it may look like that, but our plant specialist went with a larger pole because as she discussed in the video when asked what size of pole to use, she suggested using a larger sized pole, to accommodate the plant as it grows, because you do not want to have to pull the plant off of the smaller pole and have to reattach it to a larger pole as it grows. She also suggested selecting a pole at the height at which you'd like your plant to grow if your pot can hold it. Our plants are left in the plastic grower’s pot, but the plant was put in a nice ceramic pot that helped to stabilize the base of it with the pole. When it is needed, it will be up-potted.

    Plant Farm! Hello! We lived about a half mile away from you, but moved recently to the south. Boy, is the south a plant culture shock! Many new beautiful plants here, but I miss some of my regulars…lilacs, and your huge hanging fuchsia and petunia pots! I’ve tried petunias & fuchsias (NO where near as nice as yours!) both, and they just don’t hold up to the heat!

      Thank you for the nice compliment. It is amazing the different plants that we find in different areas of the country. If you're not using Jack's Petunia Feed you may try getting some of that and using it with your baskets. You can use it for both your petunia and fuchsia baskets. That's what we recommend and use on our baskets. It is available on our website along, with the Bonide Systemic. There are other places that sell it too.

    I just planted some this weekend, I love wave Petunias, make my life so much easier. Question...my father always had me lay mulch after I had done my gardening. Would putting mulch over my beds right now still allow them to 'wave'?

    • @ThePlantFarmSpokane
      @ThePlantFarmSpokane Před rokem

      We would not recommend mulching your flower beds, especially for petunias, because the mulch will suck up the moisture in the ground, then it is not available for the plants, especially since your goal is to have a blanket of flowers. If you are looking for a good fertilizer for petunias, we recommend Jack’s Petunia FeEd 20-6-22. We carry it in our retail store and it is also available on our website. You can also check with the local garden centers near you to see if they carry it.

    Is Pilea the US name? There are so many names for this lovely little plant. Baby tears, angel tears, Mother of thousands, (Mind your own business)! The only one that when im asked I remember! Whoever came up with that is my bane. Also Corsican Creeper, mother of thousands , Paddy's wig and Irish moss. Even though its not a moss it does work well with them on pavements and cobble stones. I'm sure there's actually many more. My question is Pilea the US or Latin. I thought it was called Soleirolii. Thanks for the video I've subscribed.
