MGB brake light with rapid flashing
zhlédnutí 396Před 5 lety
I installed a 3rd brake light with a rapid flasher. I used a few rare earth magnets to keep it down as they're quite strong. I may do a permanent install with a couple of screws. Currently, this set up allows me to use the tonneau cover or the convertible top and still have light visibility. It's routed via a wire from the rear deck and connected to the left rear tail light bullet connector usi...

    Many problems here. Probably sold the car a long time ago.

    Mine had no action , I changed my starter and now it clicks like yours. What other things should I look for? It’s a new starter unless they gave me one damaged

    • @motoringon
      @motoringon Před 2 lety

      Check the battery charge and battery cables. It's not unheard of to have a bad new starter. Have the shop where you purchased check the starter.

    Solution: Sell it, give it away, park it somewhere and forget it. Buy a real Mini. Solved 😸.

      It's parked at the moment, but it runs like a bolt! 🙂 Always put a smile on my face when I drive it. Original Minis prices are going out of the roof!

      The bolts on the pulley that had come loose because the bolt threads were worn when I replaced the water pump. Ordered new bolts and used a little thread lock and tightened them down to spec. See czcams.com/video/s2TrNMjQBKU/video.html.

      @@motoringon You should look at the pulley closely for cracks near the bolt holes. I had one crack between 3 of the holes that sounded the same. Had my first MG in 1970 and have owned them since.

    • @motoringon
      @motoringon Před 4 lety

      That's what I thought too, but upon closer inspection that was not the case, also I replaced the water pump about 6 months ago. It was the bolts on the pulley that had come loose because the bolt threads were worn when I replaced the water pump. Ordered new bolts and used a little thread lock and tightened them down to spec. You need a proper rear exhaust hanger.1100 for idle. Carbs need to be adjusted.. but do check for leaks at the throttle shafts.

    • @motoringon
      @motoringon Před 5 lety

      No, just needs to be done with jack stands. It's just one of those parts that wears out in time.

  • @matthewspringston1689

    Hey, did you ever get this figured out I have a 78 MGB that is having a similar issue fuel gauge when empty is reading the exact same spot as you and full is just over 3/4 mark. I know the gauge is good because like you i tried multiple gauges. Was it the fuel sending unit?

    • @motoringon
      @motoringon Před 5 lety

      Yes. Purchased a new sender with a circuit board on it and a new solid state voltage stabilizer. The stabilizer I purchased had a bad board so I soldered a new chip to it and it works great. Also if you're not a member of mgexp.com then I suggest you become one. It's free but I chose to pay the $25 yearly subscription to get more benefits. It's very helpful joining it as you'll find thousands of people willing to help.

      Also check if your float is not leaking and is partially full of fuel. A bad ground or defective float or voltage stabilizer are other possible causes. @@matthewspringston1689

    your carbs look loose?..

    • @motoringon
      @motoringon Před 6 lety

      No the carbs weren't loose, it's the engine shaking, i had the tach set at 800, but reset it to 900 and it's much better. I need to check the compression, depending on that, I may have to rebuild the engine.

    • @motoringon
      @motoringon Před 7 lety

      Yes, I did. It apparently is normal sound of the Facet fuel pump www.facet-purolator.com/cube-fuel-pumps.php This is problematic by not having a sound deadener between the pump and the car frame. I changed to Carter fuel pump and it's fantastic and very quiet (Carter P60504 In-Line Electric Fuel Pump). I purchased it from eBay.

    The spark plugs that came with the distro were three pronged were too hot and the sequence was off. Changed to normal plugs and proper sequence and it run great.
