    I bought some from China and they're really cheap but still amazing. To be honest I can't tell the difference between a real "yooperlite" from lake superior and the ones from China, is it because they're the same thing and the only difference is the place where they're found?

    • @drusydreams
      @drusydreams Před měsícem

      Yooperlite is a beautiful material isn't it? Technically the Chinese stones are the same type of mineral, they are a UV reactive sodalite. The major difference is the locality. However, in my experience I've also seen physical differences - Great Lakes Yooperlites seem to contain a higher concentration of glowing minerals - under UV they have a more saturated speckled appearance. This is just my personal observation. And of course a higher quality Chinese piece may look more similar, and same for a lower quality Great Lakes specimen, it may look more like the Chinese material. Really in the end it's up to you. If you are happy with a Chinese material named after the American materials, that's perfectly fine. The most important thing, in my mind, is that they are marketed correctly. Because to many people, location is important.

  • @septemberraine5067

    So you're saying that the only way to purchase an actual Yooperlite has to be in the USA (in my case no overseas shipping) & pay a lot of money in spite of the purchase being from right here in the USA? What about stones made to look like they are real but actually are not glowing but made to glow by blacklight paint ink etc?

    • @drusydreams
      @drusydreams Před měsícem

      If you are looking for a Yooperlite that originates where it got the name, then yes. They come from Michigan. There are similar materials that come from overseas, so one could argue that like Labradorite, the name has become global. A trade name, if you will. But they can also be called by their minerological name - to me, that would be the more correct option. But those names aren't what sell in the overseas markets 🫰😉 They only call it Yooperlite, because they're targeting the US market. In the end, what's really important is how you feel about the stone you aquire. Some care about the origin/name, some don't. Personally, I prefer to know where a stone is from and honoring the heritage of the stone, where it came from and those who mined it. Fakes are just fakes. Lol. If it's painted to glow, for me that's a no 🙅‍♀️ Like fake Malachite. Unless it's advertised as what it is (plastic, painted, etc), it's dishonest and taking advantage of people.

    • @septemberraine5067
      @septemberraine5067 Před měsícem

      @@drusydreams I realize all that you said here. But there must be differences in the mineral composition of all these glowing gemstones. I love gemstones for their properties as well as beauty. To display compliment plants as jewelry raw tumbled/ polished etc. So yes I want specifics too. All sodolite glowing stones probably don't have all the same minerals therefore varying metaphysical & healing properties. Also, are there fake glowing stones being marketed as real that some other stone using blacklight ink or paint?

    • @drusydreams
      @drusydreams Před měsícem

      @@septemberraine5067 I agree! Crystals coming from different areas of the world will have slightly different appearances, and I believe it effects the energy as well. There may be slight variation within the mineral composition by location, but to my knowledge nobody has done that detailed of a study on Yooperlite yet. But if you closely compare stones from the different locations there are slight differences - the pattern, UV reactivity, overall color etc. 😊

    But yooperlite is also found a lot in China

    • @drusydreams
      @drusydreams Před 11 měsíci

      No, it is not. Yooperlite is only found in one place - in Michigan, USA. It is the name given for the material found in that location. If it is found in China, it should be called the mineral name, such as "UV Reactive Sodalite", or whatever the locals call it. To say it is the same as the material found in the USA, just to target the American consumer is dishonest.

    • @blankminded1982
      @blankminded1982 Před 8 měsíci

      This is the problem with calling a mineral that already has a name by a different nickname. This mineral has always been known as fluorescent Sodalite and is found in many places throughout the world. In my opinion it shouldn’t be called yooperlite, amberlite, Firestone, lava stone, sunset stone, or any other name that’s going to confuse people on what this is. Just my opinion 😀

    • @drusydreams
      @drusydreams Před 8 měsíci

      @@blankminded1982 I agree! I do think there's a place for trade names, especially if they honor the location the piece came from, but most markets do not respect that. They just want to sell so they give it a name we'll buy. Most sellers are not educated on proper names, unfortunately, which lends to the problem. Education is key!
