Um, I just had a random (revolutionary?) thought . . . you know how you mentioned that the reason for the name of your channel was in reference to feeling isolated reading fanfiction because of the stigma from non-fanfiction people who maintained preconceived notions such as fanfiction is not real literature, it is second-class, not legitimate, also judgy on smut, etc., . . . especially from literature snobs who consider classical works are the only real literature. So here’s what thought randomly struck me: the joke is on them because a lot of the classics (e.g. Charles Dickens’ works) were actually written/published in monthly installments in periodicals/magazines before they were bound/marketed as books-essentially they were fanfictions!

I look forward to hearing how you liked these! Glad you're back and all moved in. I need to read some smaller fics. I had to DNF Bloody Slutty and Pathetic. May go back to it at some point but something about it wasn't clicking with me.

speaking of (long fics/big emotional haul) I’ve had manacled on my re-read list for a loooooong time but just didn’t have the bandwidth to pick it up again-I recently ran across a completed podfic of it on ao3 and am loving it! A funny thing happens to me when I listen to podfics: I’ll get home from 5 miles around the lake and my husband will say how was the lake, what beautiful views did you see? And I’ll look at him blankly realizing that all I can recall seeing is the scenes from the book in my mindscape! Good thing I don’t often listen while driving!! I have the politician’s wife on my re-read list so I must have liked it (although I recall being uncomfortable re some aspect of infidelity maybe?). . . but also I’ve also just finished reading through a pir8fancier grocery list and have loooooved several of their works, particularly: stillife (HP/SS) and Snape: the homes fries nazi by pir8fancier (HP/SS). I know you don’t veer off dramione, but (shrug) maybe others of your followers might 🙃. Also I know age gap is taboo for a lot of people, and I respect that, but age gap doesn’t bother me much in HP (as long as not underage) because 1) wizards can live to like 200+ years, so a gap of 20 years is nothing, 2) the wizarding world is microscopic-literally hogwarts houses almost the entire population of the country, so any one age cohort is really small (Harry’s hogwarts cohort was like 40 people), so if your “person” isn’t to be found amount that tiny pool, then you’d look for them in a different cohort. And 3) the wizarding world is still deeply entrenched in Victorian times, so age gap seems more normal to them-so if I can read Austen or Brontë and suspend my current culture-bound judgement, allowing the ethics of the times to direct the narrative, then I can do the same for HP. Last, you might get a kick out of this: whenever I put one of your recs on my list, if I’m not sure about or otherwise might be reticent to try, I add a “🍭” which reminds me it came from your recs, so I’ll go ahead and pic it up already!

I like your tips about having a separate “container” for the reserve and the TBR. I just commented on one of your other videos about how I have a list of longer fics that I just have on my TBR but I know myself and I don’t plan on getting to them anytime soon because of their length but want them close in case I feel up for it. Having a separate place for them is great because then my TBR doesn’t look so chaotic and filled with things I’ll never touch. Now I just have to force myself to implement the change LOL 😂. I do like to be able to see everything on one tab for scrolling…so that wars inside my head 😅.

I definitely have the same thought process that you do about getting scared about some of the longer fics because when I see word counts over 250,000…I get big eyes! LOL I love short and sweet and something that I know I can finish in a few hours/a day. But I’ve loved some of the longer fan favorites like Measure of a Man and Remain Nameless so I keep all the long fics on my TBR list for one day 😂.

thanks for the video! omg, I was really surprised to see a rec of a Russian fan fiction writer here! as for this work, I haven’t read this very work yet (just know the plot) but “cup of madness” has wonderful maxi stories. idk if they are translated into English or not. as for Russian writers, I can also recommend haironmylip, I see her brilliant story Nomura is about to be fully translated into English (AO3). This story focuses on mafia, that’s incredibly fascinating! one of my fav stories ever

I believe the tube is also where they end up meeting? I also remember that Narcissa is supportive and I believe even ends up helping them win/ kill Voldemort??? Not entirely sure about that part!!! DRAMIONE IS WORTH BEING STUCK ALONE INDOORS ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT

In an earlier post on this video, I mentioned a fic that I liked for the element of a featured relationship built between H/D and hermione’s parents (among other reasons ) but couldn’t recall/find the fic title. Found it now: The Nanny by vanminner. I really like the close relationship they have built with the Grangers as well as how integrated they are with the muggle world in this fic. (It also qualifies as a kidfic)

I just read BSP because of your last video, and I was so sucked in when reading the first half, but I think the biggest ick for me was that though they fought a lot, I think Hermione still let Draco get away with too much, specifically at the fight when Draco said she should've cut off her arm if she didn't want him to use her pain to manipulate her, and then they had that little duel and both were just... like equally childishly pissed. I would have really liked for Hermione to have expressed things having gone too far and being hurt at that point (or some other similar situation), and maybe act as if she was done playing with him and him having to try harder to win some of the dynamic back. Hermione really let herself be played with and manipulated a lot, I guess because she "secretly liked it"? Which... Mostly was okay, just yeah, I wish the boundary pushing would have culminated in a breaking point somewhere along the way. And the second ick was the quick transition in the middle of the fic into so physical, when Malfoy Manor was about to be raided, because of Hermione being too easily played again... But the fic got better for me again after that when caring about each other got more obvious between the both of them. But otherwise, I loved a lot of the moments and dialogue, such a whirlwind of a story. :) Then afterwards I went back to your video and read Osculum Annuum, and that was sooooooo beautiful! ❤️ One of my favourites for sure. Thanks for both recommendations, love your videos! :)

You convinced me to give BSP another try! Like you, I was very put off by some of the characterization. I think it was that the sexual innuendos came off too fast and too early in the story and I'm a slow burn type of reader haha. I also think the character of Draco was too in your face for me too and Neville seemed too slick with the flirtiness than I was used to from book Neville 😅 but if it's worth pushing through, I'll give it another try...great vlog
