It's been a while since we made a video. We've been busy with life, as many are at the moment.
We celebrated our anniversary with a trip to the place we first met - Crested Butte, Colorado. This is our slice of heaven, even with an increase in tourist population. We stop at some cool spots, enjoy some moments, and share some wisdom with you. I hope you enjoy!

Hi everyone :) We had a long week, as I'm sure most of you did too. We decided on lunch at Lemon Reservoir, close to our home. We breathed deep, had a simple lunch, and made a fire. It was such a soothing afternoon, and we took some videos of the serenity to share with you. There's no fancy editing, no DIY tutorial. Only nature and some relaxing music. I just received the Sport. The only problem is I am in the south and rain has been forecast for the next week. This morning we had some cloudy conditions with a hint of sun behind the clouds. I tried to put bacon in it just to test, since if it fails I can fry the bacon inside . After 15 minutes the temp was 132, and after an hour it was over 150. It never got any hotter so cooking in the semi shade is not a good idea. I'll have to wait for a sunny day.
Why doesn't anyone use square pipe? Wouldn't the fittings mount easier (flush) and mounting it to a frame safer?
Simplest is a solar shower about $10 and stored away until you need it
Does the black pipe keep it warm when waters left in the sun?

Use your air compressor...that's the purpose of the schrader valve. I'd go one step further and include a pressure relief valve set to about 30 psi so you don't over-pressurize the pipe.

Does the water get pretty warm after bring out in the sun for a while? My wife has been threatening to kick me out of the house so I'm thinking about setting the vehicle up for camping.
Yeah it warms up well! Definitely not scorching but it's a pleasant temperature to rinse off. If you get evicted, this will work well for you (at least in the warmer months)
It’s not a bad idea. I think if you used one more street elbow you could just cut that pipe in half and turn it back on itself to double the capacity. Someone mentioned about a heating element too that’s not a bad idea either. 👍
Yeah you can mod this with a couple more turns easily, I made mine small because I don't need too much water onboard but it's a modular design to suit anyone's needs.

If you plan on using the water for drinking? I'd recommend PVC vs ABS. ABS is NOT BPA free.

Hey guys, amazing video. Quick question, are you injecting air through the Schrader valve to generate pressure on the water? If so, what pressure are you injecting? Thanks!
Yes, pressure through the shrader valve. Go up to 30psi, but don't leave pressure in the system. Pressurize as needed
I have the Sport, Fusion, and 2 Goes... I did a fudge brownie mix in my Fusion using the silicon loaf pans i have for it...did chicken thighs earlier in the day using different silicon trays... the trays are easy enough clean...and i did not do the electric part of the fusion this time... was a really nice sunny day for western Washington... I could have rotated my deep tray out to the middle maybe... my brownies were a bit thick for regular brownies, they got done and were tasty but if I had split the mix among 6 pans, and did 2 loads... they might have been more standard in thickness... got short brownie loafs. The chicken thighs I marinated in a Carolina style BBQ sauce over night....I used the Thermo electric thermometer with app on my tablet to graph the temperatures in both cooking runs... Have you baked eggs in your Sport... mine holds just under a dozen eggs... it does a good job... like boiled...my Goes are too small to do in shell eggs...I did get my Sport with 2 trays... I have been looking for corndogs again a Go can do a pair, but the Sport can do 4 corndogs at same time. I am thinking the corndogs are a bit hard to find now ready made.

I found them on Amazon a couple years back, just search for small rectangular silicone cups!
Thank you for the videos. I made the same one. Cost total $100. (Amazon blow out plug) and home depot for PBC piping (harbor freight step drill bit) Used 4" 10 foot PBC pipe. Thank you 😉

You spend a ton of money on rod holders but don't think about buying a real Road Shower. I am not going to knock your shower though. It speaks for itself.
You speed up the process. Reduce video in normal mode on building instructions. Please.
Nice. A few questions for anybody who has one of these in PVC: When it runs out of pressure there is still a lot of water in the tank? What happens if you run it with a lot more water coming trough the head? On a sunny 70F+ day, Is the water a comfortable temperature 2 hours after the sun goes down? Anybody try to install a 120v 1000w heating element on one of these for a 10 minute warm up?
Does the top cap leak out air after pressuring?
I used some thread tape to secure the top cap, but it wears down and can leak. Not a huge issue, especially with such a small capacity. But something to note!

Tragically that black ABS plastic is one of the MOST toxic substances - do not shower in that!!! Even trace amounts will be very bad for your endocrine system. Not smart.
Hey there! We took some time to research this topic after you mentioned it, and there are mixed reactions to using ABS as a water tank for shower water. From what we found, we can only recommend that others research the topic before committing to ABS. A viable alternative option would be to use white PVC and paint it matte black with spray paint. Thanks for bringing this up!
@@thedirtpeople6754 I highly recommend the book Cradle to cradle. PVC is one of THE most toxic substance for humans. You literally mine as well swim in mercury or eat lead paint chips. Really, it’s not good advice to HEAT these and shower in the leached toxins. The skin is absorbing very dangerous toxins. Very ignorant to tell people to do this. Sorry. I like your video but one has to call a spade a spade. I’m a health care worker and it’s just really really dumb to shower in toxins for the endocrine system. For the lymphatic system. Very poor decision.

Hey Alec! So far, I haven't had any issues. The clean out valve hasn't worn out, and it's been in the sun all summer. Definitely working well still, although build quality probably adds a lot to that factor.

How’s the flow on a setting other than misting?
It holds up well! Obviously, higher drain settings deplete the water quicker, but the flow amount is great.

Thanks a bunch! The tank holds just over 2 gallons. One pressurization worked for me, but I did leave the compressor connected in case I had to repressurize

We pressurize the tank with an air compressor that plugs into the 12v port in the back of the 4runner.

Thanks for an informative video. I just finished my solar shower mostly based on your design except that I installed a 4-in to 2-in Y at the discharge end. Then I cemented a PVC adapter (using PVC to ABS cement), which has a 3/4 inch threaded end that I simply screwed the spigot right to it. I don’t like to drill and this way I only had to drill a small hole for the air intake valve. I tilted the discharge tube a bit so all water will flow towards it. I had a perfect seal if I use Teflon tape on both end caps. It seems a hassle to have to re-tape the cap each time you need to add water. Do you have a better solution?
Glad to hear you made your own! I like the idea you mentioned here as well. I think the only other solution I have, besides tape, would be a rubber O ring that fits onto the screw cap. That may be a better option, let me know if you try it!

Install another faucet next to the air valve then make a small adapter hose with 2 female threaded ends to attach fill hose to the shower hose line. Open both faucets and fill tank until water overflows on top faucet. Then you can turn off fill line, close top faucet, drain some water through the shower line and then close bottom faucet, reattach shower head and your ready to pressurize.
I would be careful going over 20psi with it. I don't think the screw cap is rated for pressure. Usually just used for drainage. It could blow off like I've seen in a different video as the sun deteriorates it.

Thanks a bunch! We've brought it up to 40psi, and it holds just fine. I'd assume it could go higher, but 30-40 works just fine for us.
