I took off and ran into them. enjoy like subscribe thank you conner.

Final week of how to morel hunt morels

It's been a rough morel season for some areas in central Indiana. I haven't posted any videos this week due to this fact. This video is a compilation of my last few mushroom hunts. our weather is turning cold and rainy so I may try 1 more time to see if they flushed. this video has some good tree identification and lots of picking. #foraging #morels #huntlife #ediblegold #fungus #tree #morchell...

Damn pick me up on your way through next time!
Lol that's what most my buddies say. I could have got skunked. I did have a feeling though
Your in the stuff their. Some years it floods some years it don't. That back and forth chaos makes the morels. Nice!
Wow, what a hunt. Well worth the time and fuel for me it would be
I'll have one thank you so much!!
Still in awe
Shew
That is awesome my friend!! Great job and Good luck with everything!!
Thanks man was a blessing for sure
Date of finding and region of Iowa?
Northern Iowa 3-4of may
so sweet of u to gift them to the grandparents ...headed for the mesick mi festival next weekend wish me luck..enjoyed ur video's
Getem
What kind of mushrooms are those... are are they Gordon Ramsey mushrooms, or are they Dumbledore mushrooms?
Those are called morel mushrooms there probably one of the nicest tasting things in the forest
Are you burning leaves ?
I'm up by indie and Monday April 29th we had an inch of rain and these next 3 days are going to be in the 80s so do you think the first and second of May should have them popping up up here?
Maybe on very steep north facing hills.
Good video and informative
Fav trap bait?
Dogfood works best imo. But catfood works okay too. I'll also throw stale bread or some meat scraps work well too.
I got spots were I pick em along old logging roads. Other people park on the roads and walk for miles and find nothing and come back to me with a bag full at their vehicles 😆
Oh, I've been that guy, I'm sure. I'm gonna go take 1 more look just to make sure
@@getyasomeoutdoors9507 my season ended about a week ago. Good year, picked over 20lbs in southern Illinois so I’m set for the year lol. Good luck to you!
Nice job! The diminutiva likes cherry a lot. If you get a cold snap with rain you can get a second big flush.
I haven't been as lucky as you this year... Yet!! Hearing reports some are being found in this area.
My buddy lives I. East Central Iowa he found his first ones today. North of where he lives a few blacks and small yellows in an apple orchard. Good luck honestly the 2nd roughest year I've had ever. Last year being the 1st that said I don't travel far from home much to hunt them.
Not a green sunfish just a lighter colored bluegill the green sunfish have way bigger mouths and more aggressive teeth plus they have bright edges to their fins
Look again 100% green sunfish! Bluegills don't have yellow fins
Dem green sunfish they compete with bass for food because there mouth gets HUGE
They looked awesome buddy! Made me hungry now I gotta go morel hunting! Good luck with everything my friend!
You too man keep that trapping footage coming not too many of us that do it, since non cost effective but it helps the conservation of our wildlife. Hope to have a good turkey video or 2 soon!
@@getyasomeoutdoors9507 I just put out a turkey hunting video guiding my nephew turned out great!!
@MarkJLarsonOutdoors I seen it called that birs a quarter mile
State and date plz
When you burn, could you just spread wood ash on the ground instead?
Possibly I believe the burn damages mycelium though. Damaged mycelium causes it fruit the mushrooms
Its been tough in Central ohio ive found maybe 2lb this year but only 5 or 6 nice ones hopefully it will get better normal have about 2 or 3 weeks left
Show a cook video please
Coming soon!
Like to see a clean and cook
I'll make that happen.!
Where in the region are you at? I'm by Princeton, Indiana. Just so I can Guage where about my season is. I'm discouraged thinking my season is over
Owen county, and it's been a tough season. Found about 1/3 of my usual. Cold Temps and rain may extend our season a little but it's turkey time! I've ran into them well into may before.
@getyasomeoutdoors9507 that's something I've never learned about the hickory trees. Thanks for the response 👍
Ohh my Goodness!!
Just dropped another video. Been a rough year
Good video, Thankyou. I think a mic would greatly benefit you.
Definitely I have one need a type c type c adapter so it'll fit correctly. That said sometimes I talk to myself. I'll get better I promise. Good luck hope you do well this year! And also the advice!
Super. Love from Indian Himalayas 🏔️
It happens 😂😂
I know crazy though there were 20 ppl in these woods
I love when I find the perfectly dehydrated ones too!! Score I think I might head out next weekend to my spot
It seems to get windier and windier every year. Been awhile since my area has had primo conditions. Good luck they are definitely into Michigan now, and central indiana is about done. We may get another flush. Definitely a poor year in my area. North and South did well. Good luck
Holy shit getting a headache with all the camera flinging from spot to spot
I should put point of view in title somewhere
I miss mushrooming..i'm disabled now my legs and hips won't take it anymore.. and yes I miss hunting them. I have no one that will bring me some. I used to take my mom a couple of messes...😢 tremendously!
Same here, now there are places that you can buy them you just have to search wherever you're at, they're usually around 50 to $60 a pound but to me it's worth it! 😊
What state. Not trying to steal your spot just trying to get a feel for the temperature.
I'm in central Indiana, and it's looking like my area has basically been skipped. They started early and we had a cold front dropped a half inch of sleet followed by 2 frosts. I've found quite a few but not nearly like normal 100 miles north has been finding more and better we may get another flush. Though happy hunting
i love morel hunting it's the reason i live
Me too I'm a 40 year old little kid

I'm in south end of johnson co. IN. IT'S BEEN GOOD SO FAR
That sweet you bring them to your grandparents! You must have some good DNA if they’re in their 90s! I am taking applications for future son-in-law’s if you’re interested lol❤
I try to give to those who can't go anymore
We find the blacks around the black cherry trees. That’s primarily all we find in this area.
Fresh blacks are my favorite, I'm lucky to find 10-15 a year though. It didn't used to be that way. We use s to find mostly blacks.
I’m in Southwest Michigan, and we never find many of them around here. We find a few here and there and maybe end up with a dozen for the entire season! We used to live further inland and further south near the area and it was much better hunting down there. Wondering where you’re at in the country?
Central indiana, I'm surprised I know the Niles area of MI, does very well and I'm sure they are up.
@@getyasomeoutdoors9507l’ve been picking them for two weeks in Missouri eating mushrooms every day . I love this time of year sadly it’ll soon be over . Happy picking and eating my friends.
I thought you were supposed to cut the shoots!😊
I do usually, you can just leave the base, 2 reason they will come up exact location. And you don't have to clean dirt. Fingernails work as scissors
Great finding ❤where are you?
West Central Indiana been a rough season honestly. Last 3 days have been rough.
What’s the best area to find the morels
That's a tough one, but sandy soils with sycamores, elms, and cottonwood I've done the best. Also fields that have been let go long enough for sapplings to start and briar bushes about waste high can be awesome.
It's funny I just went to one of my spots this evening. Morels grow there every year. I found them March 26 they were further along than previous years. April 4th I picked a couple and left one to spore out. It's was damaged. So today I went back 4/16. I found 7 that I missed early. If I would have went 10 more yards I would have found them. I picked 2, the others were a little past their prime. So I left them. But right there next to them was a box turtle. Lol. I immediately thought about what you were saying about box turtles.
I find them a lot near mushroom spots, even when they were on indianas' endangered list. I almost never find a mushroom with a true bite taken out of them though. That's the only reason for my skepticism! 👍
@@getyasomeoutdoors9507 I think snails and slugs chew on them more than any box turtle. I say if the turtles want a bite have at it. Box turtles lay eggs every year near my garden. I have videos and pictures of them year after year females laying their eggs here. I even have pictures of them mating one year. I let cover for them grow on my place so they must like it. It's cool to see them come back year after year.
Just starting to kick off here in Iowa! can't wait to get out and find a mess of morels! Great Video, Subscribed for more!!
My buddy lives in Southern Iowa he tried last week. Found 1 little one I believe. Then moved on to shed hunting. Thanks for the sub happy hunting!
good info dude, nice hull! funny when i find them honey holes, theyve always been bout 40 yards long and bout 15 or 20 yards wide in poplar and a few cherry. happy hunting, 💚 from W.V.
to me, turtles mean the grounds warm enough for morels
Very well could be. I've never thought of that perspective, but now you mention it I don't see them when I'm shed hunting. Thanks for that tidbit of information 👍!
Can I ask what state you are picking in?
Central indiana, it just got going
Are you looking for dead and dying cherry trees, like for elms, Or alive?
Alive cherry trees but the good one's usually have damage. Once you start finding them you'll usually notice they are growing right by the fallen branches of the trees. If it's leaning hard they'll be under the leaning side. Hickory trees do this too. I'll show that soon
@@getyasomeoutdoors9507 thank you, can’t wait!
You might want to go very slow because they're everywhere in that spot you're at
250 I'll be back that location is full sun 🌞
hmm...Ive found over 100 dead turtles, their shells, and only 6 morels...guess them critters are starving here lol
Lol, that's a lot of turtles, maybe their like elephants and you've found a graveyard 🤣. Or there's a critter there that eats the snot out of turtles.
@getyasomeoutdoors9507 Probably some kind of spill, or poison or pollution killing those turtles. I would keep an eye on that, if you really found that many shells of dead turtles. Not good
We call the small ones tulip morsels
yeah, I learned the term from old timers and have found patches of more than hundred several times in stands of old poplar, most of them don't get real big
