"Wonder Wot"
Another of my own pieces, this was a fun, frantic (Franktic?) song to do! It's an old-ish mix 'cos I broke the first rule of sound engineering - BACK UP ALL YOUR WORK - and I lost the lot when the drive got fried! (Teach ME to practice what I preach!) This was a particularly fun track to do as I had input from students at the time on drums, electric lead guitar and backing vocals. Some of the original stems were saved though, so I'll be working around what I've got left and doing a new production....

This one is keeping me busy. I've worked it and re-worked it (and RE-worked it!), but I can't seem to be happy with any of the versions I come up with. The more I do it, though, that little bit closer I seem to get to the "perfect mix" (if there is such a thing!)......This is the latest (edited) mix and, even though I did it a couple of months ago, I thought I'd drop it on here (psychological, ...
"Tell Me" (Instrumental)

This is the instrumental version of a song I'm working on. Can't decide what genre this is - maybe "Prog Folk-Soft Rock - MOR? Vocals will be next, then the final mix. (Thanks to Adrian Baker for playing the acoustic guitar tracks for me - and saving my fingers from bleeding!)
"Love Letters" - Analogue Cover 1994
zhlédnutí 105Před 8 lety
Digging around my archive I came across this little number. Written by Victor Young and Edward Heyman in 1945, and made famous by Elvis Presley, I decided to cover it myself in 1994 on my analogue gear - just for fun. It was one of the first covers I ever did in my little home studio! Great fun, and great practice bouncing the tracks from one machine to the other (LOTS of EQ)! Hope you enjoy my...
"Only You" - Analogue Cover 1994
zhlédnutí 313Před 8 lety
I performed and recorded this song on analogue tape back in 1994. Digital was around then, of course, but in keeping with the best analogue tradition - the song was written by Buck Ram and originally recorded by The Platters in 1954 - I used 2 four-track machines - a Teac A3440 reel-to-reel tape machine (pictured) and a Yamaha cassette Poprtastudio. Lots of bouncing back and forth, so unfortuna...
Paul Brook Drum Masterclass at Warwickshire College
zhlédnutí 252Před 9 lety
Paul Brooke performs and delivers an amazing drum masterclass to students in the music department at Warwickshire College, Leamington Spa. One of the best drummers I've ever heard, a greatly talented musician and music producer, and all-round lovely guy. He's greatly missed. RIP, Paul - your Legacy lives on and continues to inspire!
All About That Bass (Cover)

Cover version of "All About That Bass" - another collaboration of staff and students of the Music Department at Warwickshire College, featuring Rosie Samaras on lead vocal and backing vocals, Aina Lal on backing vocals and Sarah Parnell on woodwind (Saxophones). All done especially for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES, of course!! Come to Warwickshire College and learn all about Music and Production - and ...
Don't Be Late For Christmas
zhlédnutí 151Před 10 lety
Thought I'd reinstate this one, after a long vacation......Don't know what happened to the original. Anyway, it's back after a few years off. This is a Christmas song with a "twist" - being about those people who don't have a particularly great time during the Christmas period, for whatever reason (not just the homeless), and there are increasing numbers of people feeling that way.....It's not ...
Rockin' Around The Music Dept

Thought I'd share this little Christmas "Gem". It's a cover of a (fairly) well-known Christmas Song written by Johnny Marks, and the music was played, sung and produced from scratch by students and staff of the music department at Warwickshire College as a kind of Fun Festive Collaboration. It was an "impulse" but to take it one step further, on a "whim" we decided that a video to go with the m...
California Girls
zhlédnutí 297Před 11 lety
Another cover - this time of a Beach Boys favourite, done in the style of Dave Lee Roth, and featuring Jason Fillingham on vocals. This one was a bit of a challenge, not only due to the fact that I used 33 tracks to record it, but because of the vast amount of EQing I had to do during the submixes and the final mix.....well, it's all practice, innit?! This is another song I'll be introducing to...
Penny Lane
zhlédnutí 544Před 11 lety
Just felt like doing another cover - this time "Penny Lane" by the Beatles, from WAY back when. One day I'll maybe get round to doing my own stuff again but in the meantime the covers are rackin' up (Martha My Dear and California Girls are on the way!). Actually, doing covers (by listening to and analysing the parts) is really good for ear training, so if there are any of my students out there ...

1980's Folk Rock band. The song was recorded, mixed and mastered at BBC recording studios in Manchester and the video was made at Elstree Film Studios - slated for (I think) the Andy Kershaw show, but got shelved.......hmmmmm.....never mind.
Kilquhanity House School Documentary 1968
zhlédnutí 4,4KPřed 11 lety
Snippet of a documentary film made in 1968 about my old school Kilquhanity, a year before I started there as a boarding pupil (Damn! Just missed it!). Some parts are missing, unfortunately, or it's been heavily edited. I seem to remember the original lasting about an hour! Screened by "Man Alive" this kind of education was considered radical to say the least. My own view: we need lots of school...
Beethoven's (Synthesized) 9th - 4th Movement
zhlédnutí 409KPřed 12 lety
This is a cover version of the 4th Movement from Walter (Wendy) Carlos's arrangement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony - all done on a Korg X5D. Doing this was purely for fun - I didn't realise the extent of the learning curve I was about to experience, or the ups and downs, self-doubt, fear, and all the other emotions that trying to recreate something by such a phenomenal genius can bring (I'm talki...

Sing-along-a-Beach-Boys!! Thought I'd drop in an instrumental version for anybody (Sunim?) wanting to exercise their vocal chords! The Blue Hole has no real significance - just a picture I like with a boat......
Genial
Twice I have performed this piece as a member of the choir. It really connected with me. It amazes me that one man, who was deaf, could compose this entire work.
Amazing!!
Awesome!!!
Great!! What is that (kind of Hawaiian guitar) at 0:33? And what guitar at 0:48? 🙏
The only performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony that I've ever actually enjoyed. Pure magic.
The Glorious 9th!
THIS IS AMAZINGGG
Very well done !
temazooooo!!!!
I imagine Alex delarge meet Burn-E from pixar as a Beethoven fan well of course they listen all beethoven music ❤❤❤❤
Bet Schroeder from Charlie Brown would be interested in joining. He actually plays Beethoven.

this is WONDERFUL--it makes you want to simply listen to how Carlos's work on the moog is so great!!
I had my brother listen to this, and he said. “Why am I thinking of Beethoven playing the Synthesizers from Bill and Ted?”

The very next day I voted for Biden as president. No she, he Carlos is as cool & nerdy as Weird Al.. damn that primitive synthesizer sounds like heaven. It knows how to use it, sorry pronoun sensitive people! Calm down! I'm a fan of years. Carlos had an ear.
