A short hike up Chestnut Mountain through colorful wildflowers and scenic vistas of the Trail Creek and Paradise Valleys with the Absaroka Mountains in the distance.

An overnight backpacking trip to the Gates of the Mountains Wilderness just outside Helena, MT. I hike through a narrow canyon and navigate through, over and around burnt trees from an old burn to arrive at a green meadow watered by a gushing spring.

A day hike up Doherty Mountain to view the rebirth of spring growth after a wildfire burned the summer before. New growth with a riot of wildflowers greet me on this beautiful spring day.

I await pickup by jet boat for the fast and exciting trip up the Colorado River to the landing and then loading up my gear in Moab.

After leaving Water Canyon I hit the confluence with the Colorado River. High winds and waves greet me and I search for a protected campsite along the high water banks.

Leaving early in the day, I arrive at the mouth of Water Canyon before noon and explore the canyon for water holes in this scenic area below the Maze.

After leaving Dead Horse Canyon, I paddle down the river at a leisurely pace. After finding that the camps at Horse Canyon are inaccessible, I opt for a desert like sand bar I had camped on years before.

Hiking up Dead Horse Canyon, climbing out and then over to the Turk's Head for a fantastic day of Canyonlands scenery. After returning to camp, an alarming discovery along the river.

After paddling through some mild riffles, I circle the Turk's Head. The warm weather has caused the river to rise putting campsite landings underwater.

I climb a steep butte to explore the ruins of an ancient lookout post high above the Green River. A fascinating construction that has withstood the ravages of wind and weather, it remains a puzzle on who and why it was built.

I spend the day hiking up Horsethief Canyon looking for possible water holes and and get confused on where exactly I have traveled.

I float by Mineral Bottom, my last takeout landing before reaching the Colorado River, and paddle to the most scenic campsite I've found on the Green River.

Cruising along on a beautiful day, I take my time exploring Labyrinth Canyon with it's majestic sandstone cliffs and rugged side canyons as I approach Mineral Bottom.
