And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back - For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

After speaking with the fine students of the Greenbrier High School “Wolfpack” Band about who they are, what defines them, and what they find important, I came away with three central concepts:
• Pride in the Wolfpack mascot
• Importance of friendship, community, and collaboration
• Progression - getting better, learning to work together
Some general research on wolves and wolfpack behaviors revealed the following:
• There are three levels of social strata within the wolfpack: Alpha, Beta, and Omega
• Wolves communicate in a number of different ways, including by howling, whining, and barking
• Wolves are very devoted, they take care of one another
Within the piece, three distinct themes represent the groups within the pack, and each theme reflects a different mode of communication: Alpha Theme (Howl), Beta Theme (Whine), and Omega Theme (Bark).

Why didn't anybody play the congas? I mean, it's 2012, the same year "Invocation And African Dance" by Matt Conaway was composed. Heck! The congas are right behind him! I'm not saying I didn't appreciate this performance, but I think it could've used more congas.
My friends and I planned to play this piece for our junior small ensembles in high school. Spring 2020. We bought the sheet music, had one or two rehearsals, then everything shut down. We never did get the chance to perform, and I don’t think the other two even play anymore. Came to reminisce…
