Wroooom, KLACK, wroooooomm, KLACK.... just a very little bit of pre-pressure on the gearshifter before pressing the clutch will give very smooth gear shifts on these ladys ;-) Turn down the opening of the horns to the ground and they will last forever. With the opening to the front too much rain gets inside and the steel membrane will rust and die

I’ve owned the 929, f4i and older f4. After 6 years of riding and dreaming of owning a 954, I’ll pick one up tomorrow morning. Then a quick 13 hour ride home with my new toy. Is this foolish? Yes.

does anyone know of a competent repairer who can sort out my 1981 R100 speedo. The odometer and trip meter have stopped working and it seems to be optomistic with the speed by about 5 km/h. This was the case when I bought this bike several weeks ago.

Thanks, this was a very informative video. I've wanted a Europa since I became fascinated by the shape of a Matchbox one that I still have. That was about 55 years ago. In a strange happenstance, I was gifted two series 2 Europa projects by two different people last year. I assume they think I am the guy to actually get at least one back on the road, probably because I daily drive an MGB-GT and have a Westfield Super 7 as a "weekend" car. I have a couple of other projects to do first, but I'm looking forward to actually getting my butt in a properly sorted Europa and finding out for myself what the mystique is all about. Thanks for the additional inspiration. Cheers from the right coast of Canada!

I'm 67 and I've always heard that the rectangular wheel arches provided more rigidity and strengthened the frame considerably. Supposedly the round wheel arches increased the chance of the frame failing at the front of the back wheel arches and was the reason they changed them back.

The 954RR is peak Fireblade. It's a toss up between the 900 and 954 as my personal favorite. The Hornet 900/Honda 919 are incredible bikes too. They were released alongside the 954RR with a fuel injected 919RR Fireblade engine. 12 years of ownership and it has been bulletproof for me. The 919's wouldn't look out of place on a modern show floor which says a lot for a Japanese bike designed in the late 90's-early 2000's.

Good review. I improved the handling on my 74 R90S with rear Progressive gas shocks but I also heli-arc welded a fabricated .080” DOM tubing cage onto the bottom of the swing arm. A 6” bender worked perfectly. I must say I got the idea from the San Jose BMW catalog. My clutch grabbed (only when hot) from oil leakage. Not passed the main seal, but around the end of the crank where it fits into the flywheel. I sealed that end with a thin bead of RTV. I too think the Avon Roadrider MKII are by far the best handling tires. Cheers mate.😊

Clutch is better than you think when set up properly, and I don't mean by the book. The centre adjusting nut has to be adjusted so that it will turn freely one way and not the other (less than the clearance the manual states) then buy a one inch pull lever and leave some clearance at the bar and it's a different animal. Top end leaks are often caused by skimming and not allowing for it in the pushrod counter bores and then using the wrong thickness pushrod rubbers, over compression is the main cause. Carbs can be balanced to get the sweet motor ticking at under 500 rpm. Lash caps and mushroom adjusters give long adjustment periods and alleviate guide wear. Last, put a drinking straw over the free end of the clutch cable stop oil coming out of the adjuster/abutment.

Being brought up with British bikes I was adamant I was going to have a trident 😂 when I was 14 I bought the heynes manual read it front to back and inside out!! But when I was 19 I chance to ride a T150, boy was I disappointed ☹️ the only good thing I could say about it was the sound it made, my Kawasaki z650 wiped the floor with it but even now 48 years later I still want one, who knows one day!!!!

Nice bike, great video. I've been riding airheads for 20 years. You should be able to get smooth gear changes with the clutch set up correctly and preloading the lever. If not, then assume there's something wrong in there. As for the handling, i've ridden boxers of similar spec and not had that problem. Getting all of the variables correct is the key. But can be quite a lot of work to do. Wedgetail ignition is a good upgrade.

Ive got my 300,000 79 r100 r45 As my retirement project, but with the state of the economy And government policies it doesn't look like im ever going to retire, the gear box isn't as reliable as the engine, and are expensive now, change the oil regularly, the drivebox too,the light flywheel clutches are no way as strong as the old heavy flywheel clutches but the release bearing is a massive improvement, you can fit the radial ball bearing in place of the radial roller with a mix of their components, by the way when I was younger and braver I could grind the cylinder covers!

Had a '75 t150v for 4yrs in '70's and only had a rectifier go,and was used daily at speed! Terrible on fuel, but i did have bigger jets and bellmouths which made it better and easier to tickle middle carb. Had to keep one finger on front brake in rain to counterract stupid chroming. Great bike and wish i still had it,was smoother than my Commando which only had two postions on throttle-wide open and shut! My '76 850 is smoother with Mikuni carb. Good video

I am using a billet aluminum triple clamp and Conti-Go tires with YSS-Z shocks. The YSS shocks have allot of adjustability that includes overall length. The triple clamp allows me to move the forks up and down. With this setup I can alter rake and trail. The bike handles like a dream. Even if I didn't change the rake and trail, the solid triple clamp makes a huge difference. In my opinion, the first thing to improve handling is the triple clamp. Mine is from Toastertan.

What a lovely bike stunning colour. I understand your comment "this is a 1970s bike and if it were perfect it wouldn't be as charming" I have a 1978 kawasaki Z1000A2 which isn't perfect but I love it. I've had a 1981 R65 since 1982. That year Leufmeister made a fairing for the R65 with a factory paint match (turquoise) Put stiffer springs in the forks and no dive on breaking and corners. Has a great look just over the windshield when cruising. Krousers too. Just bought a 1984 R100 all original with new Krousers. I've been wanting a 1000cc beamer for a while now and it is great. I have a whole other gear on top of 4K RPM at 65 MPH compared to the R65 that moves me out to 70/75 at 3/4K rpm in Fifth gear. It Is FAB! Thanks for your video...great info and well done...

I owned an R65 thirty years ago. Sold it cos I did not like the vibration in the handlebars at certain revs. The bigger R100 model i have owned did not have this vibration. Did like the bike though. Its little brother, R45, I have never seen one, ever.

@@keithad6485 I found that with each checkup eg. (1000/15000) the vibration at 15K at 3500 RPM was moved up to 4000 RPM. It does take a while to break in these bikes. My Idle was perfect in that you could actually hear the pistons hissing as they slide in and out.

Me too, after over thirty years of pretty much no bike riding, just bought a 1981 R00RT. My mate has just offered to sell me his R100/7 which has been sitting idle for over thirty years! in his mechanics work shop. Price is tempting. BTW my RT has a noise similar to an exhaust leak where the exhaust pipe enters he cylinder head. Though it sounds like an exhaust escaping noise, it disappears as soon as I squeeze the clutch leaver. First thought was thrust bearing, but not sure. Any ideas?

I have now owned my 1969 S2 Europa for 50 years. It is absolutely original with matching numbers. The only change was a new Down draught weber carburettor and a new chassis which has not really seen the road . The rear hubs can be a problem, although Banks Europa do make a bolt on, twin link rear suspension conversion, which I am told takes the load of the rear hubs, drive shaft joints and hub bearings, is rose joint adjustable and I was told by Richard Winter (of Banks) solves the rear hub issue. I am now retired and maybe will get the car out of storage for one last summer, then I must reduce my collection of sports cars. Thanks for a very good video.
