My journey racing MTB and gravel. I've recorded nearly every race since 2017 . Did my first 100 Mile MTB race in 2018 and moved up to Sport (Cat 2). In 2019 I took 1st place in the Championship Point Series (CPS) in the Sport category. In 2021 moved up to Expert (Cat 1) and finished in 2nd place for the CPS. In 2023 raced gravel races due to our local XC series being discontinued. I raced in The Michigan Gravel Race Series (MGRS), "Long" series finishing in 2nd place for my age group 45-59 and 10th overall in all age groups.
For 2024 I will continue racing in the MGRS and will accumulate points at events throughout the season to compete for a series podium both in my age group and overall. Additionally, I'm looking to finally go sub 8 hours for the MTB Lumberjack 100. This will be my 5th year at Lumberjack with each year getting a bit faster (9:19, 8:26, 8:13, 8:10).

This was an Expert/Cat 1 Race that was held at Maybury Park in Northville, MI on May 25, 2024. The race format for Expert/Elite was 3 laps of a 8 mile loop that took a bit over 37 minutes a piece. I had a decent race but I'm just not in shape for XC racing being that I'm primarily focused on gravel racing. The 1st place finisher was an Elite racer that dropped down to the Expert Category and dropped me after a few minutes. I did the same with the 3rd place finisher and basically all of us were racing a time trial alone, passing a few riders along the way from waves that went before us.

it is so sad, that all the riders want to be modern and now we have to see behind them as well as just in front, completely unnecessary, watch on an laptop screen and it rather disturbs than helps but otherwise good video of a place i could never visit living in germany on the eastern sea and being over eighty though in good health since i did not take the fake vaccine and tets.
I think the rear camera gives a good perspective on the dynamics of what’s happening in the group.
Sick course. I didn’t know Michigan had hills or dunes.
There are plenty of steep punchy climbs, particularly in northern Michigan. We just don’t have any longer hills. The dunes in Arcadia are pretty amazing.

what age group do you race in
For Hart Hills I raced Elite. For gravel races that don’t have Elite I’m in the 40-49 age group. For some MTB races there is also an Elite 40+ (masters) age category.
What software/template are you using for the telemetry overlay?

Great set up with the front, rear views and overlays. The best way to handle those situations is, that's racing, but certainly feels bad wondering what if. Good showing for when you were moving

Ivan the Terrible section starts at mile 46 with the worst part starting around mile 46.5. It begins at 2:19:25 in the video.

Hello sir late comment if I may I took time to watch the whole race, and on my opinion you are a great athlete you can go far in cycling but the problem that I noticed is your ability when you approaching an uphill you change your gears to late you change them when you are already on an uphill not before it that's why some couple of guys overtaken you on an uphill and I acknowledge that you had a crush I hope you recoverd but all in all you are a great athlete... ☮️

Damn impressive. I’ve done Ironmans but never a mtn bike race close to this length. How many long rides do you put in in the months before the race?
Thanks. Typically my weekly rides are 2-3 hours and my weekend rides are 3-4, for a total of about 15-20+ hours a week. I may throw in a few longer 5+ hour rides, but not often because it take too long to recover and disrupts training.

You shouldn’t have to walk anything so road shoes will be fine. Yeah, conditions look like they’re going to be bad, so I’m skipping it this year.

@@vic0mark, yeah all better now. Had a concussion, broken rib and bad road rash. The bike was ok though! I actually raced a couple weeks after that crash (Waterloo G&G). You can see in that video I took it a bit easier.

what was your average speed?
Avg Speed was 19.1, max speed 33.9. That was with a distance of 62.8 and 1760 ft of elevation gain.
Estou usando pneus Chaoyang 28mm com tubeless, detalhe, esses pneus nao são pra tubeless. Comprei no Aliexpress por R$ 144,00 mais um pequeno frete, o par!! Está funcionando perfeitamente, pneu muito resistente. Já usei os pneus da Vittoria Corsa tubeless, pneus que rasgam muito fácil, alem de serem caros no Brasil. Comprei na época, o par no Aliexpress por R$ 360,00 com frete grátis. No Brasil, a média de um pneu é o dobro do par que comprei.

Great ride, but I noticed your HR right at the start was high. In my experience, I normally know, today will be a hard day in the saddle. After that, you won’t touch anything over 160. But good miles on the legs. Season greetings.👌🏻

What camera system are you using that allows you to have your route along with power/HR/SPEED and all that on the video? I have the GoPro and I’m not impressed
I use GoPro but I edit with Garmin VIRB that allows me to put overlays on my videos.

@mi-xc What GoPro model are you using? Does the new GoPro 12 without GPS not advisable for what you do?
I use the 10 but recently got the 12. Yeah I'm not sure about the 12 without having gps. I'll have to test and see how that works out. I'm thinking it doesn't matter since I'm just overlaying data from my bike computer, but I guess I'll find out shortly.
@@mi-xc from my research you have to manually sync the Garmin GPS to the video footage using the overlay software. Not difficult but another step and could be off if you don’t sync correctly. It is recommended to hit GO simultaneously to avoid issues. I opted for the 11 just for that reason. The 12 didn’t seem like a big enough upgrade. I’m guessing the 13 will bring back gps.
