How to clear a House Site with SVL75-3 Make Terraces across hill to reduce erosion until building
We don't know when building will begin but I want to be as ready as possible. I don't want a lot of erosion so I am putting terraced paths that will be sloped up the hill to stop erosion. I will clear 95% of the trees so I can finish clearing the lot in one day, once we are ready to start building.

Enclosed Cab Saved My Life! SVL75 Potentially deadly Is the enclosed cab really worth it?
zhlédnutí 74Před 14 dny
I started work on a new part of the woods. Haven't been out there much so wasn't too familiar with what was up there. I needed to clear a new path that I don't believe existed previously and encountered some wildlife that to many people is very dangerous and potentially deadly. The enclosed cab saved me from a lot of pain and discomfort. Probably not deadly to me, but many people wouldn't survi...
How to Repair Gravel Driveway Kubota SVL75-3 Another Rookie mistake, but can I fix it?

I made a mistake on the road bed, and tried to do some grading when it started raining. I learned you should NEVER try grading in the rain, but only learned that after I made more drainage problems for myself. No problem, I have a skid steer so I will fix it.... only took all day. It took 30 minutes to ruin it in the rain, all day to fix. I hope more of my projects don't turn out that way. Key ...

      I'm going to a local auction next week that sometimes has some decent deals. I'd consider getting one but not for the ~41,800 new Blue Diamond prices. I'll be fine if I can fine a 20 year old one in good shape as I won't be doing it commercially every week.

I need more practice czcams.com/video/J7vDW4nW4yg/video.html I did several videos just on the TH35. I find it very helpful Yes as I learn I’ve found that 180 turn in place will dig/destruct almost as much as actual digging. Agree I probably should backup 90% more often. This road was abandoned by the county and deeded to us so it needs a lot of work due to 15+ years of zero maintenance some of the other culverts are blocked, there is deeper erosion further up the road that will need to be fixed too. Lots to do on a property that nobody maintained for 15 to 25 years

  • @Leonidimus59
    @Leonidimus59 Před 6 dny

    I think terracing is a reasonable strategy to prep for final grading. I would start with a root rake to remove all the small brush and roots into a burn pile, then you'll have mostly clean dirt to grade the terraces. Will you build the house on the terraces with a step foundation, or make a large level pad? If the latter, I'm pretty sure you'll have a lot of fill on the downhill side of the pad. In that case, it takes time for fill to truly settle, even with mechanical compaction. I'd grade and compact the level pad ASAP so it'll settle during the rainy winter season. Of course if you leave terraces, compaction is not a big issue.

    • @ahbuildingafarm
      @ahbuildingafarm Před 4 dny

      I do have a heavy duty grapple that I am pretty sure I can rake up the roots. We haven’t made final decisions on the house or foundation. We are considering flat slab for a barndominium or a terraced ICF foundation for a more typical foundation. Still a lot of decisions to make but that’s my wife’s department. I’m just doing preparations that would be needed for any type of home. Maybe even one with a walk out basement

  • @Leonidimus59
    @Leonidimus59 Před 10 dny

    I guess a wide smooth edge bucket would work better for grading? You could reach into the ditches easier. Or a dozer 6-way blade attachment, but they're pricey. I'm also in East TN and planning to buy a 75-3 to work on my forest property.

    • @ahbuildingafarm
      @ahbuildingafarm Před 10 dny

      Six way dozer blades can work well but you can’t lift quantities of material like you can with a bucket. A smooth bucket definitely would leave a much better final surface. I’ve been wondering if an 84” smooth edge bucket should be on my shopping list. I’ve been watching some local auctions but thus far nothing up for sale in my price range yet. If you are getting a 75-3 new they will let you roll some attachments into their financing promotional offers so start thinking about what you might need early in your ownership. Thanks for watching and commenting

    • @ahbuildingafarm
      @ahbuildingafarm Před 14 dny

      In the video description I referenced the pages where my version of the manual state during breakin period to change oils at 50 hours. My dealer did not include any discount or free service for the breakin items. Doing the engine oils and filter, and changing just the hydraulic filter were not too hard. I would highly recommend doing the engine oil and filter change. All the more knowledgeable people I know say that break in and change on a new engine are important. If you are handy and have the tools I bet you could do the whole job, in under an hour

I can cover all my equipment for less then what it cost just for the SVL as part of the loan. I have a 75-3 also. I also got the Danuser Intimidator that would've made quick work of that tree/stump. If you can, check them out if you have much more trail building to do. I've taken out trees/stumps over 12" diameter with it by digging/cutting the roots out, then pushing it over. On the smaller trees, it just lifts them out of the ground like a carrot. As far as changing them out, no big deal..just put the Intimidator in your bucket, drive out to the area where your work is and take it out of the bucket. When you need it, simple disconnection of the hoses and the hydraulic disconnect. Not trying to be a know it all, but, I just cleared out a mile of new fence row through thick Missouri Ozark hills that are very steep and again, the Intimidator made the job so much more easier and quicker. Good luck!

      What's the price tag compared to a static stump bucket? I do have more trails to do and the demo video the vendor had on that is impressive. The problem where I was working was the angle of slope where I needed to dig to level things out before I would be able to even apply an attachment like the Danuser Intimidator. How were the slopes and hills where you were using it? Steep enough you were getting nervous on rolling over left or right, or backward? I was a bit disappointed in the hydraulic breakout strength the 75-3 had during the filming. I have heard others on Facebook mention that some 75-3's the bypass hydraulic pressure relief valve is set to low so you don't get "full power" Still not sure how true that is. I have a friend with a 75-2, so we will need to do some comparison testing. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the suggestion. I am a total rookie so all information shared is extremely helpful. I am always looking at various attachments that will make the work easier. Did you film yourself using yours? If so I will look at that too. Thanks again.

      @@ahbuildingafarm I am a rookie too. I have hills that are very steep, steeper than a bleacher section at a stadium. As long as I keep the rear of the machine uphill, it’s fine. I paid $3800 for my intimidator with cutting teeth on the outside edge which is a must for me. There are plenty of videos on CZcams that show what they can do. I looked at a stump bucket but the intimidator has that ability plus much more by being able to lift trees out effortlessly. Just shake the tree and the dirt falls out of the roots. On the bigger stumps, I just close the arms and poke the stump and the dirt comes out. My only issue with it is you can get overwhelmed with the amount of trees in short time. Gotta be able to get them to a burn pile or somewhere to put them.

My priority list is a set of pallet forks, and then maybe a smooth edge bucket for better grading, or some type of grading attachment like Land Pride SG25 Skid Grader for more road work, or something like CID Skid Steer Swing Boom Brush Cutter Attachment so I can cut back brush and branches from the road, driveway, gulleys, up high too. We will see what's next. It will depend on how rapidly we finalize building our final/forever home. Thanks for the suggestion.

    There's no need to dick around with pushing on the quick connects to remove pressure. Simply shut the machine off, then turn the key back on (without starting the engine) enable the hydraulic switches, then run the rocker switch back and forth a couple of times. That action will relieve all the pressure on the lines and they can then be quickly disconnected.

    The owners manual only has a brief mention of the hydraulic filter change requirement. It is in the Hourly Maintenance Chart but you need to search for the footnote that points it out for the first 50 hours. This took me longer than necessary because once again the owner's manual does not mention what size sockets you need, or if a notched filter wrench would be helpful. (22MM socket needed, and yes notched filter wrench (see description for link) would be helpful as the filter is in a tight location. As a rookie, this was not a difficult job once I had the tools I needed. Hope it helps you.

    I am a total rookie at this type of maintenance so excuse any mistakes I made. I try to correct it in TEXT when editing if I catch a mistake. The general maintenance for the Kubota SVL75-3 is not particularly difficult, but you do need to have the right tools, which sometimes I have... and sometimes I don't. I try to make note of what tools I use as the Owners Manual does not mention sizes for any bolts, nuts, etc. Even though I had a pretty large CRAFTSMAN socket set, it didn't have the proper oil plug sized socket, but 7/8 inch did work. Hope this helps you keep maintenance costs down.

    This is not at the farm but at our current home in just your average Tennessee subdivision. East Tennessee is very hilly everywhere so even subdivisions typically have a lot of slope, so all the water runs to collection points, that flow to the next connection point and so on. Heavy rain can rapidly turn into a problem due to the rapid collection of volume of water, not necessarily heavy rain. This is much different than a flat area like Iowa or Illinois.

This time of year, we usually see a massive rain that can dump 12 inches in less than an hour. If you are lucky to not have HEL, you can keep your yard and driveway. HEL = Highly Erosive Land, which is made up of shale, slate, and sandstone.

  • @winniegib31
    @winniegib31 Před měsícem

    Yes, how true. I have been fighting a flooding problem for 40 years and they add to it rather than consider what should be done to stop it. I have a large acreage in Lincoln County, TN. We bought the old Griest mill near the Alabama state line. I am downhill three directions with a charming freshwater creek fed from springs on this property. Improper ditching is one of the problems plus the county came in on Smith Mill Rd and put in a huge culvert where the water cuts across my property into the creek. Mind you I get all the water from from Smith Mill Road. North and South of 275 or Lincoln Rd. I am left to personally clean up all the debris that overflows the creek sides and what a pile of garbage and debris ! The bridge is outdated with three channels to carry the water under Lincoln Rd. Crews trim trees and leave huge tree trunks, limbs, and branches in the creek. It cannot pass through those channels. Also, the water current is so strong it washes all the garbage from the yards and sides of the road. I am left to clean all that up. It has backed up at the bridge, which leaves my yard looking like a lake. I have had 4 1/2 feet of water flood my basement. No ditching on the upper side of Smithmill Road. Water does not flow down the ditches on Lincoln Rd. Instead, they channeled a ditch behind the houses from the Lincoln community which also flows across my property. I have had to replace flooring and throw away tools and furniture. Ruined a mobile home on Smithmill. I have corresponded with everyone I know. I stated earlier, that rather than working to solve the problem everything has been done to make it worse. The county is responsible for Smithmill Road and the state Hi-wy 275 or Lincoln Rd. You tell me. EPA is absolutely no help at all.

    • @ahbuildingafarm
      @ahbuildingafarm Před měsícem

      I feel bad you are going through that. I only have two sections of the property that are downhill from neighbors where a portion of their land could potentially add water to mine. Most of my erosion problems are uphill on my own property so fully my problem to either fix, make worse, make better. After these down pours I am dreading going out to the farm to see how bad it is. And there is rain in the forecast every day. I won't be out there for almost a week due to my schedule, so if it is getting worse.... it's going to get worse for a week. One bit of advice I have received over the years for almost all problems... clean the stream before you clean the pond... and in your case.... Can you start to divert any water away from where it can flood the house? e.g. a trench up hill that diverts it over the crest of another hill on your property? Anything you can do to reduce the "stream" would be the key (knowing nothing else about the problem) If you were to reduce total flow by 25% then perhaps it wouldn't get high enough to flood the house. Or can you improve the draining of where it does collect, such that it flows out faster than it flows in? If I identified the proper area, can you create a trench from where it pools to just accelerate where it naturally flows too? Meaning if it already flows to the Flint River but it needs to get to be 4ft deep before it flows over the hill into the river, can you cut a trench in the hill so it only can get 1ft deep? EPA, USDA, - they only consult or perhaps help with growth. My local State of Tennessee Forester has been a helpful consultant to me.
