How embarrassing

I despise cheating and cheaters more than I can express, and I believe that penalties should be severe, even in casual on-line games...including (particularly for tournaments), significant fines, loss of all earned titles, reduction in rating commensurate with current rating...but for example, for a 2600, at least 400 points, and for a 2200, at least 300 points, AND a first-time infraction ban of 3 years for anyone, and for a second infraction, a lifetime tournament ban. BUT...I also feel that computers can't tell you (i.e., can't detect) everything, and it's irresponsible, rude, unethical, and unfair to accuse someone of cheating unless you are positive--or perhaps unless you are 95% sure. Also, if you're in person and accuse someone, it's honestly a bit risky, depending on who it is. I don't cheat; it dishonors the game; and more importantly, it dishonors ME. So, if I were in a tournament and was lucky and/or talented enough to beat Kramnik or another high-ranked player and they accused me of cheating, they'd quickly find themselves on the floor. I know darn well--just statistically, which it seems Kramnik is so fond of--that not everyone Kramnik accuses of cheating IS actually cheating. Thus, assuming I'm correct--and I'd bet big money that I am--he is insulting the honest people, casting dispersions on their name, and cheapening himself into not only looking like a jerk but an incredibly has-been, sore loser. If he's not very careful, and he may have already crossed the line, he's going to permanently tarnish his once-great accomplishments and legacy and henceforth be known as a player who significantly slid from his once-lofty position and who couldn't deal with being less than he once was and losing to previously inferior players. The thing to realize is that the highly-rated kids, that seem in such abundance nowadays, are not any more talented--perhaps innately less so--than players of Kramnik's generation. The difference is that the kids don't have to work nearly as hard to get better since games galore are available online 24/7, since computer engines make their study incredibly easier and more accurate, and since rich daddies support these kids beyond what many of the previous generations' more innately gifted players had available...and at the very least, we see cultures that highly value the game--particularly the asians and Indians--and push their kids into it very early when the kids have nothing else to do and support them through their meteoric rise. Kramnik needs to take pride in what he accomplished in a FAR harder era and be happy with that...and if he wants to avoid what I'm sure IS a fair number of scumbag cheaters out there, then play in only in-person events where the tournament directors are competent and care enough about the cheating problem to screen and control incredibly well for it.
