Judy Garland - Once In A Lifetime - Hollywood Palace 1965
A special message from the founder of Jean Hansen's Experience:
We strive to bring you videos that serve to preserve American Entertainment History. JHE presents these videos in a way that provides historical perspective as well as educates the viewer with video commentary on the subject being presented.
While you may have seen portions of these videos in assorted qualities on CZcams or elsewhere, there are those, who think because they have a COPY of a video that they own the copyright to said video. And whether due to ignorance to the use of intellectual property, personal pride or jealousy, choose to report the video to CZcams for infringement.
For those that choose this route, I suggest that they keep in mind and ask themselves the following before doing so:
Is the video you are reporting 'transformative', meaning does it alter the original work either quantitatively or qualitatively?
If the answer is Yes, the video is being used within 'Fair Use' and even if a use does not necessarily alter the original in substance, if it does something to add a new meaning or message to it, it is still likely to be considered 'transformative'.
In closing, reporting a video opens a legal proceeding and should not be done recklessly or without careful consideration. It can also mean suspension or termination of an account for those that abuse this feature, so tread carefully.
With that said, on with the show!!!

Although Judy does look much older than 45 some of that has to do with television make up and not so sophisticated lighting that is done today, Film that was used for TV cameras etc.... Heck even though Cher was gorgeous in the 70's, on TV She appeared like 40's and She was in mid 20's at the time.

Wether following the yellow brick road or lamenting the one that got away her story is our collective story her star burned out too early but her legacy shines a bright light on our collective conciseness there is no place like home

Judy Garland was the greatest female talent of the 20th century, but being a female and essentially owned by the studio system, she was used and abused in order to milk every single dollar out of her talent that was possible, then they kicked her out, only after getting her so addicted to drugs that she was never able to take control of her life. Shame on all those responsible.

Judy Garland generally spoke (as she does here) positively about MGM as she knew well it was MGM that gave her the chance for the Stardom she did achieve in life. Had there not been an MGM there would more than likely not have been a Judy Garland.

It's amazing how you never see Johnny take a drag on the cigarette, it seems more like out of habit to do with his hands. I sometimes remember seeing him take a drag on some shows as they were going to commercial and he would kind of lean toward the ashtray with his head down, but I don't ever remember him overtly smoking even though in the early days he always had one lit. In the later days, I don't remember him having one lit. However, the cigarette case and lighter were always there.

These commercials bring back some serious childhood memories. Watching Miss Garland is absolutely heartbreaking. Her eyes look so sad, she looks twice her age and she can barely form a sentence. What a sad and tortured life she lead. Basically everyone she came in contact with did nothing but use her. It seems her only joy in life was her children. What a tortured soul.😢

Judy Garland was pure magic. So bright, so witty- the perfect amount of devilish sparkle and child like innocence combined. They say no one phrased like Sinatra, well no one interpreted music like Garland. She almost electrically transmitted it through every cell in her body. Never before and certainly never since- a one of a kind talent that flew through our sky like a meteor.

To see Judy Garland this way makes me sad but the reality the body can only take so much. You're right Len Welch - she looked age when 45 years old she should be feeling great - Hard to believe the little time she had left. I hate all those studios that started her on pills to keep her making films and downers to keep her down. It is surprised she survived these many years. I blame those horrible people that had doctors to give her uppers and downers.

Judy is so special. It's quite shocking to see her so frail here and as some of the comments say- like a much older lady yet only in her 40s. I wonder if Marilyn Monroe would've been the same had she got to this age. Lovely lady & talent.

My dad worked with Judy at the London Palladium. Because of her reputation no-one else would work with her. But we were short of cash. My dad really did NOT want to do it. But he worked with her for a long time and said she was one of the most professional people he ever worked with. On the last night she came and shook everyone’s hand and thanked them. He was shocked by the way she looked, but he’d worked with the best and always said she was in his top ten. This wasn’t that long before she died.

Judy was far stronger than she appeared. She would never have considered herself weak. If she were as weak as everyone believes she would have died at 27 and not 47. Having a chemical dependency does not mean that someone is lacking in strength. She could be a very tough woman when she had to be.

I dont know what is but I just cant stop watching her. It's somethig magnetic. When shes perforning its just mesmerizing. I dont feel bad about her life. They'll never be another her. Like Michael Jackson, Elvis, Prince etc some people are just born with extra doses of talent.

Thank you for uploading this show in its entirety! Compare Judy here at this age to Madonna at the same age. It is apparent the toll that the studio execs took on this woman and contrasts with how Madonna is -how Judy should have been, healthy, fit and wealthy - in control of her own life. Two extremely strong women, from two different eras. Also, I miss Johnny Carson so much.
