Have you tried root parsley? It's a good alternative to parsley, and you get to eat the root.

Love your set up. Pond would encourage dragonflies to help with mosquitos. I don't have a pond but for some reason there's quite a few dragonflies. 🤔 Thanks for showing what to look for in the size of branches. I thought the big pear tree branches were a sign of health but Ontario Canada gets a lot of snow with the possibility of broken branches. Going to get a local arborist to check out my trees for sure . Great video.
I get a gallon or so a week of coffee grounds plus shredded paper, keeps the smell down in my heavy duty tumbler. Bokashi bucket for the majority of 'those' ingredients. Only real issue could be raccoon but so far only attacking the actual garbage can.
Great idea, a space saver in the garden.
It really is!
how to build a correct microbiome and make infinite microbial life in soil
Your garden is beautiful!! So is your compost❤
So nice of you
Good video as usual. A good approach would be to move that setup to a different bed every year to help spread the fertility around.
Yes, I forgot to mention that :)
A few words of advice. Stop throwing your garden tools flat on the ground. This will prevent you from losing them, stepping on a short tooth rake and saving your back. Just put something up to rest or hook your garden tools on to limit the bending over. Gardening is already hard on the back. Great video 👍☮️🇨🇦
You can literally see a bunch of garden tools propped against the fence at the back of the frame in most of the video :)
I have used two plastic lobster crates for composting for the past five years. These can be bought used fairly cheap and they are rugged and have latches to secure the lids. I found they do a really good job of breaking down our kitchen waste.
Yes they would work well
So.....KISS again. Seams to be Your motto...Thanks again Greg.🥬
You got it :)
You have squirrels, I have rats. I’ve stopped feeding birds, and that has helped a lot. My compost is not “hot” only warm, and I have loads of worms in it. I mix my kitchen scraps with leaves and shredded boxboard. In the garden itself, I chop and drop weeds and trash foliage on the spot.
I'm using your stacked, original approach, and love it for the compost tea production - that was the main reason I added another compost system since it seemed so brilliant. The bins are not as exposed to the sun as yours were (they are black, and do get sun in the morning till 11AM). The lids are tough stuff, the same as the bins. I have to remember to check the compost tea level once in a while of course, but it's never been more than halfway to full before I got around to using it in the garden. Might need to make a small tarp for the top lid if I'm going to be away from home for a long while though, to avoid overflow.
I absolutely love all the stone in your beautiful, beautiful garden. God bless y'all Jude, from Kentucky ✝️🐴🇺🇸⚒️🇺🇸
Thanks
Welcome, you're awesome!
Great video! I’m thinking of purchasing a two chamber tumbling composter. Are you familiar with these? Many thanks from Cape Breton👍👍
yes, that's another way of doing it.
For many years I have used the wire fencing (like your perimeter fence) in a 3-4foot diameter ring. I just fill it w anything and only once in 20 years had to discharge a skunk that got its head stuck. I try to turn it a few times a season by taking the fence off and moving it. I dont put much meat but do add lobster shells that the crows usually take if I don’t cover them. I agree w not being too fussy. All my weeds and grass trimmings go in so I usually have 3-4 going at a time. I enjoy your videos.
@@maritimegardening4887 thanks so much 😀
I've looked into those recently but decided I will use a 45 gallon drum and build a stand so it can be turned.
My mom got me a hanging basket of strawberries about 4 years ago and this year it just wasn’t doing much, so I chopped them up and used them as filler for a big pot that now has a beautiful San Marzano tomato, some basil, and carrots growing in it
Love the ideas and the laugh about our parents minimal herb use. Too true 😂
Wow, wow, wow! You are thriving. 😊
Very!
You summed it up.Dont worry about it. I.d rather take my chances with the food I grow in horse manure before I would buy anything from the supermarket.I do however add it to my compost pile to use next year and besides My worms love it thats good enough for me.Thanks for uploading
20 plus years high end landscaping in Toronto. That rock isnt 80 lbs let alone ‘100-200lbs’. “ Cocaine is a helluva drug” eh?
Ya got me man - I make all my vids on cocaine...
If you use crushed seashells instead of timber logs, there will be no slugs and snails. They love to hide underneath the logs but can't survive in seashells.
Excellent... now where can I get a truckload of that?
I could eat a peach for hours.
I've always had trouble direct sowing parsley. I also have low success with direct-sown basil, but better than parsley.
Envious of that garden, looks amazing! Yours and my fathers putting mine to shame this year, but it's my first time trying. Have loads of lettuce at least. Cherry tomatoes are starting to come in. My peas had a lot of breakage unfortunately so not much there. My eggplants are somewhat recovering from a lot of false potato beetles going at them. Need to weed my carrots too and see how many are there still. Wondering how often you're having to water with all this crazy hot weather we're getting?
We call the callaloo Marogo in South Africa it grows like weeds all over the place
Norland potatoes are only 60 days to maturity anyway. Probably time for them to be dying back. I saw two goldfish there!
There's about a dozen big ones, and they had babies so there's even much.
Beautiful garden and lovely intro. Thanks Greg 🌟
So nice of you
27:48 Will the lovage self seed?
I suppose it would - I don't see why not - but you can also just divide up the roots - like with rhubarb
Our summer and winter squash are the opposite of yours (zone 3, 99 days between frost dates). We direct seeding the summer squash this year, some in pots. We have a couple of green zucchini and one Goldy zucchini that sprouted, but are still really small. It took two sowings for a Magda to shoe up. Two sowings of White Scallop patty pans in the pot, and nothing, but a third sowing in the main garden had a couple finally germinate. We did a third sowing of Magda in the same bed; nothing. There was space, so we planted G-Star patty pans, and got a 100% germination rate! For the winter squash, we got the Wild Bunch mix from Veseys (using your coupon code, of course. ;-) ) and started them indoors, with the pre-germination method. Got a 100% germination rate! They got transplanted as quickly as we could get a bed ready. They stagnated for quite a while, then suddenly exploded in growth and are now just huge! We even have some pretty large squash developing.
For the fencing around the raspberries, you might want to pick a pool noodle or two. Slice them on one side, lengthwise, and put it over the top of the wire. Or you can get the pipe insulation that's already cut along one side.
That's a good idea!
What a gorgeous tour in the beautiful morning sunlight. I am always excited and jealous watching your garden tours😊 but I've made many changes based on your videos and as a result, tremendous progress. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge. Your beds look wonderful.
Thank you so much!
My late father who was a horticulturist taught me how to trench compost back in the early 1950s, some almost 75 years ago. I have now been doing this for 70 years with great success. I also tench compost all the weeds, even invasive weeds. Once weeds are buried in the soil they no longer have access to sunlight, thus, photosynthesis cannot happen and everything dies. I do not throw out any greens in the green bins for weekly pickup. But be aware all you geezers out there, digging & then covering a long trench is not for you even for exercise. It is hard work. I speak from experience! It beats sitting indoors and reading and watching TV all day.
Looks great!
Thanks!
Thank you for this, Greg. I am in the Valley and have been struggling with my carrots as well. Last year we moved here from Ontario in May and still managed to get a reasonable garden. Of course last year we had so much rain in June!! I am trying a few different plants as I have added 2 more raised beds to my initial 2. I also have a ton of grow bags (Dollarama)which are doing so well. I should add that I am 77 and this is my first foray into veggie growing. Thank you for all that you do and all the information you impart.
Wow at 77 that's impressive.
Looks like you're having a good season. It's busy for me right now with a lot of big harvests going on and bed prepping for my fall and winter garden. At least the crazy heat down here has let up for the moment. Good luck with those peppers. I've grown Carmen before and they're pretty good.
Thanks Frank
Looking good. I am having a hard time hearing your voice on this one. Maybe AC beside me if no others having issues but thought worth mentioning. Thanks for sharing
Maybe turn the volume up? Sorry - but the volume is ok as far as I can tell.
last year I had zuchinni late June....this year haven't had any yet,but do have a couple of yellow zuchinnis close to being ready....garden is just different this year....had to replant lots ...our weather was cool and damp late June and then whammo....high heat.
less toxic than table salt at same dose
Beautiful. Love how well your pond is doing!
Thank you!
@@maritimegardening4887 yes, lovely to see those happy fish
Thanks for the tour. I'm glad things are working out well.
My pepper plants have been smaller than normal this year and I don’t know why. I grow Carmen peppers every year and they are usually great. Sadly all varieties I’m growing this year have small plants.
Thanks, great job with your garden.
Your garden looks amazing!
My garden is also doing great! Except for peas-go figure. Perhaps I need to enrich the soil there. Everything else seems early for me: beans, zucchini, potatoes. Cucumbers took a long time to get going but they are loving this heat. The tomato patch is a jungle. I have a nice bed of carrots and beets. All my salad greens are pretty much finished, but we will be on to other things. I’m going to clear out my cold frame and try for a fall garden-wish me luck! PS I’ve ordered several times from Vesey’s with your promo code. I love the free shipping and they are prompt in sending things out.
Thanks Dave!
Beautiful video to watch this morning
I give up on strawberries and blueberries. Slugs and birds keep getting them.
You need fine nets
Your garden looks beautiful Greg!😊
Thank you kindly
Thank you this beautiful early saturday morning musical tour
Yes bronwenhook6088!! Or 2 tablespoons of fancy molasses in one cup of white sugar makes dark brown sugar.
Are you saying you replace your gasket once per year because the glue doesn't hold up for more than a year? I'd say change your glue, mine has lasted 10 years and will only need to be replaced if it fails the good seal test (See how easily a piece of paper can be removed after the door closes on it. Go around the whole perimeter). I use my stove all day from Oct to April.
