05-10 Odyssey AC Compressor Clutch/Coil Replacement
This video walks you through the process of removing and replacing the AC compressor clutch plate and coil, highlighting methods and tools to get past some of the more challenging steps. This is specifically for the 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey. There are several checks that should be done first to narrow down the compressor clutch coil as the culprit for AC issues, but they are not covered here.

    A VARIANT ON THIS THAT MAKES IT EASIER. Ok - This was brilliant. Thank you. 1 catch. That inner snap ring. I got it out, but I could not get it back on. I spent hours and hours and I was so frustrated I was literally losing my mind. So... I simply unbolted the 4 bolts on the compressor (didn't have to remove anything else - I never had to remove the freon lines!), and turned the compressor about 30-45 degrees so I could face the snap ring replacement head-on without being hampered by the frame. It still wasn't a walk in the park, but I got it on waaaay easier. Do this and save yourself from an anger induced stroke!

    Another thing to mention here: the rear side of the acceleration/deceleration button (this is the same one that sets the speed) has two small black posts on the inside. These can get lost as is my case today, so now, I have a working on/off switch, but I can't check to see if it works because the Set button has no way to connect to the membrane behind it. Now I need to find a new switch. Also, as mentioned by others, the screws aren't that long (and I don't know what the video author means by captured screws: these fall out quite easily)., so be careful when unscrewing: the screw itself is maybe a 1/2" long, give or take. One of my screws fell out: thankfully, it was near the seam between the steering wheel and the rear housing. Of course, now I only have one screw holding in the module. Hopefully, this will be sufficient. I'm noticing that a number of video authors who've "covered" this subject don't really get into some of the specific particulars. It would be nice if we could see all the details, not just the ones the authors think are video-worthy. I can appreciate careful editing, but sometimes these details matter.

    • @clintathusaz
      @clintathusaz Před 28 dny

      Hey thanks for the feedback! I tried my best to represent my experience and show how to change the component. Since posting it, others, like yourself, have shared that they have run into issues (screws falling out, the clip not detaching depending on the year, etc). I promise I wasn't trying to hide anything or gloss over more difficult details, I just wasn't aware at the time. I'll see if I can add some cautionary text to these areas to hopefully help others avoid the same mistakes!

For my repair, I removed the airbag (czcams.com/video/JXt_6KgUc6M/video.html). It doesn't seem to be possible to disconnect the plugs at the circuit board. Fortunately my switch assembly (the group of three buttons, circuit board, rubbery membrane, and housing) was just held together with the three screws. There was no need to pry on tabs to get it to come part.
