I know this is a long shot but if you had to choose between this DLux8 and Leica X1 today what would you buy and why?

I thin Leica dropped the ball in this respect. Since battery power is not that great, why did Leica decide to have electronic zoom, which steals battery power. Why didn't they have a system where, when in AF mode, you can use the lens focus ring to zoom and when in manual focus you can use the electronic zoom

David and Josh: Great Show as always! Is there any chance you could pass along the following request/suggestion to Leica for a firmware update? Enable a focal length toggle (like the virtual toggle on the Q cameras) to be assigned to one of the FN buttons. So you can toggle between 24, 35, 50 and 75mm. With that you would be able to toggle between your favourite focal lengths even without looking at the camera. The continous zoom-rocker on the top is the only annoing thing on this beautiful camera. I just received my d-lux 8. I just love this thing. can't believe I got so quickly being in Amsterdam. takes such great pics and is enjoyable. Surprisingly good video as well.

The second big reason (if not even the most important one) next to image quality that sets a camera apart from a phone would be user experience and this is where Leica unfortunately has only gone halfway with the D-Lux 8. If they had put a fixed 35mm equivalent lens onto it and made it fully manual (and kept the EV compensation dial and left video out completely) it would be an instant buy for me as a companion to my M11, but the way it is right now it still delivers too much a phone and too little of Leica user experience, especially with that goofy zoom rocker that completely kills any pleasure of using a photgraphy tool...

Hi there thanks for the video. I owned a D-lux type 109 for 5 years before upgrading to the D-lux 7 for the last 5 years. So I will upgrade to the D-lux 8 when available here in the UK. I find them great travel cameras with excellent image quality. One thing I noticed about the D-Lux 8 is that the base ISO has been lowered to 100 and so the longest exposure is 60 seconds, this will add to my enjoyment because I can fit an ND filter and shoot some long exposure photography, it just adds to the positive user experience...😊

Is the charger that came with the D-Lux 6 compatible with the battery for the D-Lux 8?

I have only just entered into the Leica ownership family with an M6 Titanium courtesy of a £20 winning ticket in a UK Leica competition / prize draw. I have never seen the piint in buying a Dlux model in the past and have always bought the Lumix branded equivalent as there is absolutely no difference apart from the red dot and of course the extra cost. I currently own several Lumix bodies and compscts, and find the LX7 to be all that I need when travelling, and sometimes team it up with a TZ90 for extra reach. I think the the Dlux 8 is a great camera, but I'd pick up a used LX100 if I wanted the manual dial options and use the spare cash to travel, and the macro switch function is also on the LX7 that I have and a few other of the LX models.

I wish a 18-50mm version for d Lux 8 and a 24-280mm version of v lux 5 type with m43 cmos

Given a choice between the D-Lux 8 and Q3 which would you choose of cost wasn’t an issue?

I'll start by saying I'm a huge Leica fanboy. I own a Q3, SL2-S, SL3 and an M11-P. I thought about these lenses and then saw this video czcams.com/video/FOiYk3eJfDE/video.html The author includes downloadable DNG files. It's. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE. The Sigma lenses blow these away. Download and see for yourself. A replacement for APO SL lenses? NOT a chance. A nice, light, walk around option? All day long.

I've always read that what you call v.3 is actually a v.2 E46 (the previous being v.2 E43). Because, optically, your version 3 is a version 2. As a matter of fact, for Erwin Puts, in his "Leica Chronicles" (my bible!), the version 3 (or III), is actually the FLE ASPH.

I wish I can follow someone in IG who use Leica M digitals with portraits that looks like film.

I have recently purchased the FLE ii. However, when I turn the focus ring to infinity, I find the focus is not sharp and have to do some micro adjustments (either through the RF or the Visoflex). Is this something that you've observed? I was wondering it if is an issue of chromatic aberration, focus beyond infinity, or simply a faulty lens. Thanks.

I don’t have a Leica M or any other rangefinder camera (want one plus a good lens but they’re so expensive. CA adds another 9.125% sales tax on top of it), but this was a very nice video. I enjoyed watching. Although not the same, it brought me back to my Canon AE1 manual focusing. Thank you.

The SF60 AND the SC-1 is EXACTLY the same as the Nissin and the Fujifilm - for more money! They are all made in the same factory.

What a fantastic summary of focus techniques on the M11 . I also use pre focusing with focus, peaking on to quickly confirm my focus. I find this great as well Thanks again

The real winner here is the SEM21 (i.e. Super Elmar M 21). Look @1:26:27, the SEM21 shows color moire in the chart because it actually seems to resolve better in the center than the SAS21 (i.e. Super Apo Summicron 21). Focusing error? Maybe, but I am impressed at how good the SEM21 is despite its super small size and weight. The only difference is in the extreme corners, and you need to zoom 1:1 multishot to see it. Corner sharpness performance could actually be affected by the SL sensor, because the SEM21 is tuned for an M sensor. About the distortion, it can be fixed in post with just a single click. The only advantage of the SAS21 is the extra stop and a half, which is not that important with modern sensors.

Nice. However it’s hard to check the kits with such a small image. Next time please use full screen pictures with you guys in a very small picture-in-picture placed in a corner.

A useful rule of thumb is to apply standard lengths to calulate distance. For example, the width of cars, length of buses, tiles and the rule of thumb using the parallex method.

A bit off-topic but I'd love to see a video on using M-mount lenses on the SL3 using the Leica M-adapter-L.
