Van Miller was such a great commentator. He genuinely appreciated the talent and competition displayed by these great local bowlers. His enthusiasm was infectious and no doubt helped the ratings and added excitement to the show. Mike Hanes being so knowledgeable, combined to create a Bo Burton/Chris Schenkel like combination.

soo refreshing to watch these older shows, where they just bowl, none of this pre shot nonsense of wiping your heel 5 times!

I’ve been looking for this video. I remember that pattern being brutal and somehow leading everyone in series w/ 701...and I didn’t get in any brackets!

Greetings! I thoroughly enjoy this video along with the Beat the Champ videos featuring John Meczynski (especially the near 300 game he bowled against Fran Bax). Those Beat the Champ videos take me back to my childhood days when it was a Saturday morning ritual for me to watch Beat the Champ (at Arrow Lanes) in the morning on WIVB Channel 4, then the PBA Tour show on ABC (WKBW channel 7) in the afternoon. Thank you for these bowling uploads! That said, I was wondering if you happen to have any more videos like this and/or some more Beat the Champ (the original version) videos that you can upload. I can guarantee you that I will help your viewer ratings if you upload them (I can use them to help improve my game as well). Thank you and take care!!

I have been watching the new version of Beat the Champ, which is on every Saturday at 4 pm. I am not really sure that Paul Peck knows much about bowling, but he's trying.

This show was a Saturday morning staple for me back when I was a kid in the mid 80s when it was at Arrow Lanes. Thank you very much for sharing this video along with the other episodes that had John Meczynski go on his 4 week winning ride which included his near-300 game. I hope that WIVB somehow brings this show back!
