The International Centre for Music Studies (ICMuS) is based at the heart of Newcastle University's campus, with purpose-built high-specification studios and rehearsal spaces reserved exclusively for use by Music students. We provide students, from undergraduate level through to PhD, with a first-class education in music, across musicology, performance and composition. As one of the largest music departments in the country, we offer extensive performance opportunities for our students. Our vibrant community of scholars and practitioners research, compose and perform a broad musical repertoire - covering classical to contemporary, jazz to folk, and everything in between. We have strong links across the region with key venues and institutions including the SAGE Gateshead, home of the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Folkworks, the Samling Academy and Opera North.

This podcast presents a conversation between Dr Joe Lockwood (Newcastle University) and Professor Ellen T. Harris (MIT) exploring the tradition of standing up for the famous 'Hallelujah!' chorus in G. F. Handel's oratorio Messiah in America. The tradition's origins and political resonances in eighteenth-century Britain are set alongside its history in Boston, Massachusetts, from the time of the American Revolution to the present day.

Awesome video. Could you tell me how I can hook up a talkback mic that only band members can hear in their in ear monitors? Thanks
You can do this by connecting a microphone into any input (I usually go for the last one), set the gain etc as normal and then make sure the channel is turned on, but the fader is down. This will remove it from the main mix. From there, you can use the MIX assignments (probably MIX 1, if that's where you are sending signal to the band's IEMS from) to turn that fader up to a comfortable level in the headphones. I also like to set up a Mute group just for my talkback microphone (Mute group section of the desk > Hit one of the 4 groups, press the Setup button above, find the talkback mic and press select, then press setup again) - having a mute group for the talkback is a convenient way of talking to the band, without having to find the right mute button to unmute, as it's right there in front of you.

Veh is just amazing- the theatrics are amazing, he's such a natural performer and is so captivating. The humour and musical theatre feel of this performance works so well- an amazing player with a brilliant voice as well. The mix of singing and spoken word is really effective. He's lyricism is very good, a really funny and great storyteller through these songs. A rollercoaster of a performance; I highly enjoyed.
To be honest this was one of the best tutorials that I have ever watched .I can go to the studio now and I can start with basics things.Thanks
