I wonder, how did Japanese and Portugalese people understood each other? How could they even learn if they didn’t have a common language? Who was the first person that understood both languages? I would love to know how it actually was..
The enmity between England and Portugal was short lived. It only happened because, at the time, Portugal was united to Spain in the so-called 'Iberian Union'. Spain was the true enemy of England (hence the infamous, Spanish-led 'Invincible Armada'). In due time, Portugal expelled the Spanish and England and Portugal became best buddies again. In fact, England and Portugal have the oldest mutual friendship treaty anywhere in the World - The Treaty of Windsor, which was celebrated in 1386 and it is still standing. Because of this treaty, for instance, Portuguese troops invaded the capital of Spain, Madrid, while the British fought the Spanish at sea and as a result, Gibraltar (the gateway to the Mediterranean Sea) became a British possession; because of this Treaty, Portugal was the only European nation to defy Napoleon Bonaparte when the Emperor of the French demanded all European ports to be closed to Bristish trade - Portugal stood by its oldest ally, and as a result, the nation was repeatedly invaded by the French and the Spanish (Portugal never recovered its former power after these three invasions - the French wrecked, pillaged and burned the whole country) - in due time, the British arrived with Arthur Wellesley and together, Portugal and the UK, imposed the first serious defeats on Napoleon - that was during the Peninsular War. Finally, during World War II, Winston Churchill asked the Portuguese government for a military base in the Azores, the Portuguese archipelago smack in the middle of the Atlantic. Despite being neutral, Portugal once again obliged and greatly helped the British in their quest for naval supremacy across the pond. During the Falklands War, the Alliance was invoked by Great Britain to request authorization from Portugal to use the air base in the Azores to supply the Atlantic Task Force. These are just a very few examples of cooperation between the UK and Portugal. Just look for "A Timeline of Anglo-Portuguese Relations" from the British Historical Society to know what I mean. In any other context, Adams would not say that his enemies were the Spaniards and the 'Portugals'.
One of my biggest fears is being a pie hole without knowing. :S
Demais!!!! Conhecer Paris com Laurence vai além!!! Em Cada lugar conhecemos a história e detalhes preciosos!!!! Super indico!!
How long does the exhibition tour take approximately?
It’s not that big. I’d say max 30 min.
Your husband sounds like a loser
You aren't Japanese
Like all your videos: AMAZING.
I loved these places!
Thank you!
Beautiful history thank you for sharing 👏👏👏👌🤝💐😊
Pleaseeeeeee give us a historically accurate Three Kingdoms period mini series.
Incredible history!
sorrow news 😢😢 but more democracy and flexible rules will okay
I've been watching Geisha Gion videos lately and literally ALL the people who kept following them are elder Japanese men. No other demography, nor nationality. It's their own elderly men😅😭🤌
sad casting, He is hard to watch. HORRIBLE
The actor playing John Blackthorne, yes, but I don't blame him, I think the script he was given was overdramatic, like when he tried to lured Ishido's men away from looking in the cart where Lord Toranaga is or when he found out that the gardener Uejiro died because of him... I find the rest of the casts pretty good!
What do you think of William Adams’ life? Would you have made the same choice?
Very detailed editing and explain story very good thank you for sharing🤝😊
Tourist should definitely be banned from Geisha district to protect them from harassment from disrespectful tourist.
Thank you for your video. William Adams had really a surprising but also very sad life...he was basically a high ranked prisoner until the end of his life, left behind him his first family...very bitter taste after hearing all that... The Disney remake of this year is good but I will watch the 1980 original version, it looks colorful and also more accurate. Also Richard Chamberlain looks perfect as William Adams/Blackthorne.
A sad life indeed, but at least he had the opportunity to remarry and send money to his wife back home. Thank you for sharing your opinion. 😊
