      In general, the values discussed in this video are active range of motion, so able to achieve without manual assistance from the therapist. However, achieving these ranges of motion with passive assistance is often a very good starting point. It shows you have the available range of motion in the knee to accomplish 120 and now you can work to be able to achieve that motion without assistance.

      It’s not uncommon for knee replacements to make sounds, especially if they’re new or if you’re moving in certain ways. If your knee replacement is making a noise like Velcro and it's loud enough for others to hear, it could be due to the materials of the implant or how it’s fitting.

      It sounds like you’ve been through a lot, and it’s understandable to be concerned. It’s great that you’ve worked hard to regain your range of motion and muscle balance. Exercises that target the quadriceps, hamstrings, and hip muscles can often help. Additionally, focusing on proper alignment and biomechanics during activities like climbing stairs can be beneficial. You might consider seeking a second opinion if you still have concerns. It’s important to address any issues that could impact your confidence and recovery. Wishing you the best!

      At 5 months post-TKR, some tightness and tingling can be normal, but it’s important to address these concerns. The tightness might be due to scar tissue or muscle stiffness, and the tingling could be related to nerve irritation or circulation issues. It’s crucial to keep up with your physical therapy exercises and consult your surgeon or physical therapist to ensure everything is progressing well and to get specific advice tailored to your situation.

    Good day, Mr. Luke. It's been 3 weeks since my lcl, all and acl reconstruction surgery. Is it normal for my knee/leg not to be able to bend much and struggle to straighten? Still very stiff

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists Před 4 dny

      Good day! It’s quite common to experience stiffness and limited range of motion after LCL, ACL, and ALL reconstruction surgery. Your knee and leg will likely be stiff and difficult to bend or straighten in the initial weeks. This can be due to swelling, pain, and the body’s natural healing process. Hang in there-recovery can be a slow process, but with patience and consistent effort, you should see progress.

    My TKR didn't go well, the MUA made it worse, painful and a fall risk. 6 mo later, I got a second opinion with a surgeon who did a detailed analysis....said he prefers to take out the original and replace it. Original is misaligned, arthrofibrosis set in, Baker's Cyst. Honestly, with the original TKR I had no idea of what was involved - definitely regret the original surgeon and the results.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists Před 7 dny

      I’m sorry to hear about your challenges with the initial TKR and the issues that followed. It’s tough when things don’t go as planned. It’s good that you sought a second opinion and are now working with a surgeon who can address the problems more thoroughly. Regret is a natural part of dealing with such situations, but hopefully, the new approach will lead to better results.

  • @cristinehoffmann2135

    Why don't surgeons tell us all of this information! They spend maximum 15 min with patients. For the cost of a replacement, much more information needs to be provided.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists Před 7 dny

      I hear you! It's frustrating when there isn’t enough time to cover all the details. Many surgeons do provide essential information during appointments, but the limited time can mean only the basics are discussed. It’s important to be proactive and ask questions or seek additional resources if you need more information. Your health and understanding are important!

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists Před 7 dny

      I’m sorry to hear about the ongoing swelling. It’s not uncommon to experience swelling after a total knee replacement, even several months post-surgery. Swelling can be influenced by various factors, including activity levels, fluid retention, and the body's natural healing process. To help manage the swelling, try to keep your leg elevated as much as possible, especially when resting. Applying ice can also reduce swelling and discomfort. If the swelling persists or worsens, it’s a good idea to consult your surgeon or healthcare provider to rule out any complications.

      Sorry to hear about the tightness you're experiencing. It’s common to have some residual tightness after a total knee replacement. Try focusing on gentle stretching and strengthening exercises. If the tightness persists, consulting your surgeon or PT might be helpful.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists

      This is a fair assessment. Tightness early on after surgery is common, although not ideal. Loosening is also a concern of a more serious issue of prosthetic failure.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists Před 14 dny

      The itching sensation you're feeling on your inner knees when standing for a while is actually quite common during the recovery process. It's often a result of nerve regeneration or changes in the healing tissues around the surgical site. You're definitely not alone in experiencing this-it's a common occurrence as your body continues to heal. If the itching becomes bothersome or if you have any concerns, it's always a good idea to check in with your healthcare provider just to ensure everything looks alright.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists Před 15 dny

      This is a fair point. I usually recommend to patients try to sleep on the back with the leg mostly straight at least until you are able to achieve full knee extension (0 degrees), typically within the first few days to week. Once we know you have full extension range of motion we are less concerned about the extent of knee flexion when sleeping.

      Hi Tiya, I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing sounds and pain in your knee six months after TKR. It can be disheartening when recovery takes longer than expected. Have you discussed these symptoms with your surgeon or healthcare provider recently? It's important to keep them informed about any ongoing issues so they can assess your situation and provide appropriate guidance. Sometimes, additional physical therapy or imaging tests may be needed to understand what's causing the discomfort. In the meantime, gentle exercises recommended by your therapist and following any prescribed medication or pain management techniques can help. Take care!

    Hello and thank you for the videos and for taking comments. I am 10 weeks post TKR and my rehab has gone well (I have an excellent therapist) and yesterday was my last therapy session that insurance will cover. I reached 140 degrees on range of motion and my extension is 0. The problem or issue I am having is pain. I still have pain on the sides of my knee and along the incision, especially in the area at the top of the incision. I can also feel popping and it feels “rough” when I lift and lower my leg below the knee. There is also pain along the area of the incision whenever I do heal slides. The surgeon has literally spent 5 minutes with me before the surgery and hasn’t spent 1 second talking to me or examining my knee since. The PA came in the room for the 6 week follow up and looked at the incision and said it looks great, never touched my knee, and that was it. My therapist said to tell the surgeon and the earliest I can be seen was 3 weeks out. There is a “lump” to the right of the top of the incision and is inflamed, puffy, below that on the outside of the knee. I’m worried that there is a problem and it is going to get worse before I can be seen. And , there is no guarantee the surgeon will even lay a finger on my knee… yes, I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with the physician who did the surgery, incase you couldn’t tell. Thank you, Sammy

      @KneeReplacementTherapists Před 18 dny

      Hi Sammy, I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing post TKR. It sounds incredibly frustrating to not receive the thorough care and attention you deserve from your surgeon. Your concerns about pain, popping sensations, and the lump near your incision definitely warrant attention. It's good that your therapist suggested bringing these issues up to your surgeon. In the meantime, if the pain or any symptoms worsen, it might be worth contacting your surgeon's office again to see if they can offer any interim advice or move up your appointment. This definitely can be just a normal symptom during your recovery from surgery, but it may also be an indication a complication, mainly a DVT or blood clot. I recommend consulting with your personal healthcare providers and share this information with them. Better safe than sorry.

      Sorry to hear this. Hopefully this video offered some helpful advice. I would also recommend consulting with a physical therapist if you haven't recently for personalized assessment and recommendations.

    Just had an ortho follow up for my son's mpfl reconstruction and this was exactly the set of exercises recommended to us as we set up PT for the next few months. I'm excited to show him this video for the morning set of reps. Thanks for a great video!

      I unfortunately can't give you a specific answer to this. For some people it is a couple weeks and for some it is a number of months. I hope you notice improvements and less pain soon.
