Synthesia: Thalberg - Nocturne Op. 28

I have listened to many Nocturnes of the 19th century, and Thalberg's without a doubt come the closest to Chopin's in terms of quality. Like Chopin. Thalberg's Nocturnes often contain a dramatic middle section with a different tempo. This was largely non-existent in Fields nocturnes and is likely inspired by the operatic airs of the period. In addition to this, Thalberg puts a lot of care into creating a unique ground bass for his nocturnes. Most nocturnes of the period would play either a waltz or alberti style bass which I think is rather unimaginative. In addition to this, I've noticed that Thalberg often changes the figured bass during the recapitulation section of his Nocturnes, something Chopin did only once in his Op. 48 No. 1 Nocturne. Thalberg's use of this feature in his Op. 21 Nocturnes pre-dates Chopin's by a few years, suggesting perhapse Chopin incorporated this as part of his own Nocturne after playing Thalbergs. I also discovered that there is a motif within Thalbergs Op. 21 No. 2 Nocturne that bears a striking resemblance to the main them of Chopin's Op. 48 No. 2. I will be uploading the full set of Thalberg's Nocturnes over the upcoming weeks.

The following is Vladimir Horowitz' second of two piano rolls for the Carmen Variations. It is dated 1928. The midi here originates from Duo Art Piano Roll No. 7250-4. The following is Vladimir Horowitz' first of two piano rolls for the Carmen Variations. It is dated 1927 and is the earliest iteration of the piece to my knowledge. The midi here originates from Welte Piano Roll No. 4120. Since there is currently no sheet music for this version of the Carmen Variations, I will be creating a score.

I do have a very brief incipit but it seems to only be one phrase/voice.
