Beautiful question and fastest answer is depends! This depends is leading to a very long discussion, practice, calculations and tests. If i will design my circuits ps, tuner, amp, pre amp, crossover...i will choose more capacitors but for the moment i m focus on my restoration and i like to keep same inside layout interior (so big caps here to fulfill original suport dimension). Sometimes for big filter caps i m adding a small capacitor in parallel for filtering high frequency... Option for more capacitors in series or parallel: - in series...higher voltages - in parallel - lower esr - bank of caps can have a more friendly shape - redundancy - better disipation of heat Conclusion - each approach has its benefits, and best option may vary based on application. I m waiting your opinion also, which option you choose, what you prefer? Thx ! Cheers!

Hi, thank you for this good question. Ideea is very simple, inside of this unit is one transformer, transformer have to sections - Primary and Secondary. Primary side is connected to wall socket 100-110-220-240 volts and Secondary contains all secondaries windings designated for unit components. Transformer he is doing also the galvanic separation. To understand better we have to use a mathematical representation formula : Vp/Vs=Np/Ns Vp - Voltage on primary winding - 100-110-220-240 V depends of region. Vs- Voltage on secondary winding - lets say 24 V Np - Numbers of turns on primary winding Ns - Numbers of turns on secondary winding Now lets have 2 examples: Example 1. - Vp - 220 V ; Vs - 24 V ; Np - 350 turns ; Ns - 38 turns. (mains 220 volts / transformer set to 220volts) Explanation - this is the situation when you have the unit connected on mains of 220 Volts and output of secondary winding is 24 volts. So far so good. Example 2. - Vp - 240 V ; Vs - should be 24 V ( IT WILL BE ?) ; Np - 350 turns ; Ns - 38 turns. (mains 240 volts / transformer set to 220volts) Vp/Vs=Np/Ns = > Vs=vp x Ns/Np => 240x 38/350 => 240 x 0.1085 => 26 VOLTS Explanation - this is the situation when you have the unit connected on mains of 240 Volts , transformer primary winding is set for 220 Volts and output of secondary winding is 26 volts - > and you see, the voltage on secondary windings are increasing !!!!! To correct this , you have to change the setting of Primary Winding, when you change from 220 to 240 you will put in circuit more turns of winding result modifies Np - number of turns on primary winding. If you are looking on market you will not see so often this machines that means people take care of them. For this vintage gears you need time to time to make some adjustments, cleaning...and so on. Hi Benoit. Thank you for your appreciation, is helping me and the channel. About SA 8100 congratulations is a good machine, well built with enough power. With restoration space you have to pay attention, usually, i m not touching the wires, but sometimes is necessary and i will write some possibilities: * desolder pins is the hardest method for me - is very hard to realign all pins on boards flyng around. * unwrapping and wrapping back is most convenient method: - if you have enough wire you can do that very nicely. * wrapping back if is not enough lenght is not possible so you have to solder remain core or to replace cable with new one between that to pins. My method is to use wire wrapping and for power supplies, i like to solder the upper part of coil - because of high current there. I have cables on stock from donor devices , is presented on attached video : czcams.com/video/FhUCu10DuU4/video.htmlsi=VZXaeLzRDI9Zpb6- This is how i m doing, wrapping tools used are made by me but you can find them on Mouser.
