Run against traffic when there's no sidewalks and you have to run in the street. This is so you can see drivers coming towards you , drivers that maybe distracted on their phones could swerve towards you. If you ran with traffic in the street you wouldn't be able to see those drivers coming from behind you giving you no chance to jump out of the way if needed. However if there are sidewalks then you should run on those going WITH traffic. When a driver pulls out of a side street (aka cross traffic) they always look to their Left because that's where traffic is coming from and not to their Right where a jogger is coming from. If you run with traffic on the sidewalk those drivers would be looking at you directly. . .and that is much safer. Recap: If running IN the street with no sidewalks , always run AGAINST traffic. IF running ON a sidewalk , always run WITH traffic.
