If it wasn't for that orbital injury leftover from the Pacquiau fight, this would have ended like the first fight. Cotto was getting gassed when they stopped it. I recently met Cotto. We talked for a few minutes and although it was incredibly special for me, I was sad. His speech was slightly slurry and had involuntary facial expressions. There’s no doubt Margarito contributed to this. Pacquiao as well but perhaps his career would’ve been different if those gloves weren’t loaded. Either way, Cotto is one hell of a fighter and an even better human being. Hope he’s able to stay healthy.

When I heard the story it did made sense, I’ve watched that fight many times, and already in the first or second round even, even though Margarito had only connected a jab or two, he already broke Miguel’s nose. He was surprised at that, he was palming his nose in surprise, Margarito was missing like crazy in those two rounds, and already he had broken his nose. Even though he’s got a great chin, he took a bomb after bomb from Miguel Cotto, he still managed to go on, but when I heard the story, it made a lot sense.
