Drinking 80 ounces of water daily will help you feel better during your chemo therapy treatment weeks. Also, it helps to swim or soak in a bathtub.

    Im on round 7 of 12. Lost my hair, little tingle toes but thats it! The fear and panic i got 2 days before was the worst. I use lime juice 50/50 with orange juice to settle my stomach.

      Thank you Tracy for leaving a comment and I hope that the side effects are minimal for you. Please remember to drink the water even if you are not a water drinker. It will help you a lot! My doctor encouraged me to figure out a way that I can drink the water instead of saying that I can’t. So I figured out a way and it made a huge difference for me. Nutrition matters too…eat protein in each meal. I wish you well on your journey.

    I'm about to start my journey this week for the same treatment. Thank you for your information. It helped me alot especially with the anxiety about not knowing how my system will tolerate this.

    WOW! 120 ounces of water is a lot! I'd be concerned about drowning my organs but I'll try to drink as much water as possible. I have heard it also helps to flush out the chemo.

    Don't be too disappointed. Where I am having my chemo treatments, we have access to a nutritionist. I tuned her out based on some of her recommendations. I know they are wrong for me. I have been on a KETO diet and now considering the Mediterranean diet. Hospital food is truly the worst too! It's mostly starchy, sugary, highly refined and processed foods. If there was a need for me to stay over night, my husband was kind enough to bring me something I had prepared at home. I understand that hospitals are a patient volume business but the kind and quality of food served needs improvement. Cancer loves sugar! I stay with monk fruit and stevia - vanilla creme stevia is very good. I found that out through going on a KETO diet. I am still learning and see I need more protein in my diet. I will purchase a used version of that book.

    This was very informative. You are a beautiful person inside and out. I hope you are enjoying life and cancer free! I have had only one chemo session and it was LONG - 7 1/2 hours! My next one is this Friday. It was very helpful to hear the routine that you went through - what you put in your chemo bag and what you experienced at the hospital. A nurse did give me a tube of lidocaine on my first chemo session to use prior to coming for my next session. I will also apply that in the car en route. I have bladder cancer in remission and they use that for check ups, so I am familiar with it. I don't miss having bladder every three months. All I can say is thank God it was robotic surgery. I wasn't under the knife and it was same day surgery. Herceptin makes me nervous. Cancer does not run in either side of my family. Relatives have all passed away with either congestive heart failure or massive heart attacks. I'm the odd ball with cancer and some other immune issues - M.S., Hashimoto's ... . I hope I can make it through a total of 12 Taxol sessions - 11 more to go and a year of Herceptin. I am triple positive. I may forgo the other hormone suppressants.

    I am going through the same thing right now - triple positive. Refused chemo and radiation prior to the lumpectomy. Did have targeted proton radiation after surgery, 20 sessions with the last 4 being a "boost." I stayed hydrated - sugar and caffeine free electrolyte drink and went for a walk afterwards. It sounds counter intuitive but walking made me less tired and I felt better. We have lots of deer and animals and that was soothing too. All I had was a mild sunburn and no discomfort. I used a cream for that. Took the summer off and thought about whether I would do chemo and decided to go LOW DOSE chemo - once a week for 12 weeks. I have been on a KETO diet for about two years so I was weaned off my chocolate and sugar cravings and eating better. DIET and just walking for exercise MATTERS!!! Now I am going through chemo. Icing up, feet and hands and a Paxman cold cap. The first session was 7 1/2 hours! I couldn't believe it. I felt DRUNK when I left from the Benadryl and the next day felt like I had a massive hangover and all I did was SLEEP! I drank fresh ginger tea with fresh lemon and had no nausea. The following day, I drank and drank water and ginger lemon tea - no nausea! I had some brain fog but that wore off around the third day. I do my second treatment this Friday, this week. I did have some constipation so I took two Senna pills and I also have Senna tea which is a natural remedy that works. That took care of that. I knew about that from other surgeries - bladder cancer in remission - hopefully that will stay in remission too! I also have M.S. and control that through nutrition but my Grave's disease came back as Hashimoto's so I take Armour for that. Please do NOT ablate or RADIATE your thyroid! That only makes things worse and you are guaranteed to be on thyroid medicine the rest of your life and the dosage will not normalize you. You will gain weight like crazy and always feel like crap. I am so glad I didn't and learned from others - NOT to do that! This was an uplifting video and I really appreciate it. Thank you so much for putting this out there. It was reassuring. I have seen so many terrible experiences on this and it made me anxious just listening and watching them. As a rule, I avoid ALL hospital food. The quality is not that great and never organic. I do stick with organic. My husband would bring me food if needed and during chemo I don't eat - just drank my lemon ginger tea and had a sugar free electrolyte that was also cafine free.. Ginger and lemon really work for nausea. I sincerely wish you a cancer free and happy life and thank you again for putting this out there. I pray I have the same good results that you have had. I have to say PETS make a difference too. They sense you're not totally yourself and pile on the love.

    Hi Lisa! Once again, I’m so glad you made a video to explain all of this. Have you had any side effects on the Herceptin? I’m supposed to get this as well and I’ve got concerns about how it affects the heart.

    • @lisamccullar-pumphrey4548
      @lisamccullar-pumphrey4548 Před 2 lety

      I have had 3 heart ultrasound (echos) exams and so far no problems detected. Since I have been on Herceptin that I had a couple of minor incidents where I felt some heart flutters that worried me but I have a home blood pressure/pulse monitor that also detect heart flutters so when I felt the heart flutters that I took my blood pressure multiple times and everything was normal. The flutters lasted a few minutes and then went away. I talked to my doctor about it and she asked me a few questions about if I also experienced shortness of breath or leg swelling (which I have not) so she said not to worry but it it happened more often then to let her know.nSo far I have not. So far so good. I was glad to have that blood pressure monitor. I do have an older Apple Watch that I thought about wearing because I know that they have the ability to detect some heart issues but I can’t get my Apple Watch to work. I have been considering getting a newer version so that maybe it would alert me if something was starting to be an issue. I hope this helps.

      @@lisamccullar-pumphrey4548 Thanks for the response! I’ve got a family history of heart disease and I’ve been pretty worried about Herceptin because of this. But it’s nice to hear that you’re monitored closely for any problems.

    I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you made this video. This is the treatment I’ll likely be receiving for triple positive breast cancer. I’m praying it is the plan I’ll have because it seems more tolerable and gentle.

      Thank you for your comment. If it turns out that you are on the same chemo treatment plan of Taxol + Herceptin then I encourage you to remember nutrition matters and so does drinking lots of water. Even though I am not a water drinker that I was able to figure out a way to drink about 80 ounces of water a day and all of that helped me not feel terrible and I keep up my normal life. I wish you well.

      @@2pieceabiscuit417 I found a book on Amazon called The cancer diet cookbook by Dionne Detraz., RDN. I liked it because the first section explains what foods to avoid and what foods to focus on. Then there is a reference to her recipes for different symptoms. For example, recipes that target fatigue. The recipes are 30-minute recipes and one pot meals. I must admit that some of the ingredients listed were not ingredients I was used to eating, like almond butter, or flaxseed or ground turmeric. However, I thought that this oncology nurse might know a thing or two about nutritional food for people who are going through chemo treatment and I decided to go buy those ingredients and just try out the recipes. I prepared the recipes as directed without changes and To my surprise I did like the recipes. They really made me feel better, or at least not terrible.
