the lento made me weep like a child
A bravura performance. Not only is this musicianship the finest that ever graced planet Earth, but also that someone could conceive of such a piece of music in the first place. They were both a gift to mankind. Tears of joy roll down my cheeks listening to the Second Sonata, the next best musical thing to being in heaven.
Goddamn his bass notes 😭😭 i swear this man always takes me to another dimension with his playing. I’m striving to be like him!
Interesting how Horowitz adds in an extra 6 beats [ two measures ] in essence 24 extra chords, of the rapid descending four note alternating chords between left and right hand in the low register, just prior to the last 3 final ❤❤ measures !!! [ and nobody seems to notice !!! ] I see it as an improvement to the original score.
This man is one big top filarmonic orchestra

THERE IS A THIRD UNSEEN HAND , A GHOST HAND PLAYING.....IT S REALLY TOO MUCH FOR ONLY TWO HANDS...........VIRTUOSITY.............
Cambiaron el performance de Horowitz. Sé quién es el implicado y quienes son los incautos. Que esto se sepa y no quede así. Son músicos dañando Música. Así no.

I think the movement II sounds very much like impressionism music of Debussy.
Великолепно и Браво !!!
Horovitz teaches us all (certainly for me) a lesson in 'deliverance', imo! Playing in a style unsurpassed for Rachmaninov's op. 36, his performance here breaks many conventions of older pianists playing with this freedom and authority .. at the same time (again, an opinion! )...
That second movement brought me to tears. That is real music, interpreted by a real musician. It made me feel things that I didn't even know I could feel.
"He is the supreme master of sonorities." 👍👍👍👍👍
can someone tell me which part is the 3rd
The third movement starts at 16:19
Brilliant performance.
1:10 and always the crazy summit of the whole piece placed by Rachmaninov at the very beginning of it. How strange, isnt'it ? Horowitz perfectly aware of it, and giving to the audience a final lethal neuronal shock. Only after 1 minute and 10 seconds. And look at his face, how agressive he is.
12:08
Love the music of Rachmaninov and if Horowitz is playing then that is double the love for me....

Why didn't Horowitz ever play anything that was hard?
😅
Да, были люди в то время, не то, что нынешнее племя!
Russia: Has the best composers and the best pianists.
Dang his hands are so big. His long fingers seem to be able to bend in two different directions at least. He prefers to play the black keys as flat as Glenn Gould[?!]. I gather that his hands are also quite strong, giving him quite the dynamic range --you can hear some of that in this piece. I'm not very familiar with his work but love reading the praise he gets from commenters--infectious. What a guy!
Sofronitsky >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cziffra
I think there is a very good reason his piano travelled with him.
As a boy of 10 years old, Horowitz gave a recital for Scriabin in 1915. Scriabin is fantastic stuff; he skips a lot of the intro and end of pieces, a kind of shorthand he uses. I have Horowitz's recordings of Scriabin. Really great recordings. Such modern pieces and over 100 years old, and still sounds modern.
There is only one Horowitz, then the rest. A true titan
He plays just like my piano teacher told me never to do! Friggin pioano teachers!

Horowitz was born to play Liszt and Rachmaninoff, but he should not have bothered with Mozart, there are others who played it better than he did.
better? or differently
Who plays Mozart better than anyone I wanna learn more about it
@@fortvnadltgroup Listen to Arthur Rubinstein play this rondo in a minor. It’s achingly beautiful. Ingrid Haebler was famous for her Mozart. Claudio Arrau and Vladimir Ashkenazy recorded this piece as well.
This is not music.

These look like the fingers of God himself.
He is the supreme master of sonorities. As Isaac Stern said of him: "With two notes he could produce twenty colours." And his ability to create "the singing line" is matchless. There are not enough superlatives to describe his playing.
Debatable in these modern times.
No, Itzhak Perlman.
@@TimAndyMik modern pianists don't even come close to these legends
Horowitz playing was just pure magic, slight mistakes and all. His sound was so original, no imitation here whatsoever!
What are you clinging to these little mistakes! One or two accidentally hit notes play no part in that colossal mass of notes in that sonata! There's no need to look for fleas! What power in the sound, what articulation in the fingers, what colossal dynamic changes!
Les graves sont trop accentués, et c'est très brouillon, très décousu ! Si Rachmaninov l'a félicité, ça n'est certainement pas pour l'interprétation de ce jour-là ! Le cirque, c'est très bien... au cirque ! The bass notes are too accentuated, and the whole thing is very jumbled and disjointed! If Rachmaninov congratulated him, it certainly wasn't for his performance that day! The circus is all very well... at the circus!
