Blue Fin Tuna Fight! Santa Cruz, CA Oct 14, 2015

El Nino brought us warm water and Bluefin Tuna close to the Northern CA coast this year. I was fortunate enough to catch one and my buddy caught some of the struggle with his iPhone. Unfortunately, the phone had to be put down when gaffed it and brought it in, but we did land it. The Bluefin was 43lbs and the entire fight was about 35 mins with lots of screaming drag and line peeling off the re...

Stern saver doesn’t use epoxy anymore yet this is the video they tell people to look at
For a few pennies more they could send a second mounting pin so that the Stern Saver stays level and doesn’t twist. It would help tremendously with the application of the Stern Saver
Where can I buy this. I can’t find it on any of the stores listed
No is concerned about sanding the gel coat? That causes water intrusion and damages your hull.
May I cover the glue to the whole area not just the 6 holes and their surroundings? I know the glue from the 6 holes will spread, but they will not spread to the whole surface of the plate, will cover the whole surface get more bonding force or it will hurt the process? Thanks
Sternsaver how does your product stand up to the cold of a Canadian winter?
What do you do about barrier coat or bottom paint? Do you have to sand the barrier coat off? Before you apply
Can the stern saver be cut?
ola , of what material is this white plate ?? Is it pvc ?? Thanks
Polymer
Should install this only in the summer time. Not in cold weather
Lost me at, " remove the gelcoat".
Do i put marine silicone in the mount?
Just bought one. Thank you for saving the back of my boat!
How has it held up?
I need one for a sailboat the stern sit high out of the water
Instructions now say put syringe in 100°F hot water for 5 minutes(before breaking tip off) ... Glue as per guide.. Wait 12 hours before fixing transducer.
Not sure I go along with the hype. If the need for the transom-mounted transducer goes away, which is more noticeable, a couple of tiny holes in the transom, smoothly sealed and repainted, or this big square piece of plastic that obviously doesn't belong there, and CAN'T BE REMOVED WITHOUT SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, and which also still has those two holes drilled it it where the screws were?
Does it work in salt water
Music sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What part of the bay is that?
Love them boils!
Nice!
Kick the DJ HARD!!! unwatchable.....
How do you install it on a painted aluminum boat? Lonnie
It’s best to bond to the bare aluminum rather than to paint. We cannot guarantee that the paint’s adhesion is strong enough to bear the forces applied to it.
Will the company be releasing a longer board sometime?
On a painted aluminum boat would you scuff the paint and adhere to the existing paint or would you want to grind it all down to bare aluminum?
I had the same question
Sold at West Marine.
Not anymore.
I've found great handbook on woodprix website. Good solutions for everyone I think
My boat has the off set or step in the transom as the boat shown in video. Is that where I am to mount right above the step or do I place it under the step closer to bottom of boat?
so esentially u go to the dollarama... get yourself the two part epoxy... drill holes to a piece of plastic... rough up the area a bit and screw the transducer onto the plastic....under 5 bucks.
Tom Rodbend lol way to be ignorant bud, maybe you should just DIY it with duct tape and a chunk of plastic 👍🏻
@@justinpeto I don't think he's serious. Just a joky joke... I hope.
can you mount this onto a sun dolphin jon boat? (plastic boat)
Yes!! I just did this worked like a charm.Basstender.
Is your product strong enough to hold a W/F separator mounted inside the splash well ?
Hank Ford yes, that’s what I used it for. Works great.
Hi, what if I want to remove the SternSaver, is there a way for removing epoxy?
Why so large? And why do the cavities hold so much epoxy?
I just installed this as you press the block the holes dispense the Epoxy evenly.
I'm a Dentist, so I love drilling holes even when not needed. LOL
mrBDeye 3 funny 🖒
I would be putting and X from one corner to the other etc, so it covers 90% of the surface area , just encase
Nicely done. I used to go out for albacore in my Skipjack from Pillar Point, 30 years ago. Still remember it as the most fun ever had fishing!
No link to product purchase website? Marketing 101 fail.
He tells you right at the end where to buy the damn thing. Is a link that much easier than typing tacklewarehouse.com? Hey look, I just gave you the link. Now you don't have to even do any thinking at all.
I just used this, and this thing rocks.......
Great tuna fishing gay as shit music but what can you expect from the Bay area.
The rear end of a pontoon is not a flat surface???? Any possibilities to use this...or do you know of a "plyable" block that can be used?
Our epoxy is so thick, it’s able to bridge a large enough gap that you can mount them to a curved surface like the back of a pontoon. In fact, the Stern Saver is the only transducer mount that you can use for a curved or uneven surface.
Does it work on aluminum boats
Fisher Marine45 The Stern Saver is the best transducer mount for aluminum boats.
what about a new boat that has a coating of mold wax? is it still the same process?
fishon12345 If you follow these directions and clean/scuff the area first, you will effectively be removing mold release wax and any other contaminant. Many Stern Saver customers are new boat owners who can't stand the idea of putting holes in the virgin transom of their expensive investment.
So you destroy the gelcoat anyway.................. are you kidding?
12Jetdiver55 Scuffing the gelcoat does not destroy it, but drilling holes in your transom can cause transom rot. Transom rot is the equivalent to totaling your car. Scuffed gelcoat can always be wet sanded and polished back to it's original shine and is in fact how old boats with heavily oxidized gelcoat are restored.
Scott I thought of the same thing that 12Jetdiver55 wrote. Your answer makes sense though. Suggest making a comment to that affect during the instructions. I expect people will switch off when they see that "damage" being done to the paintwork, Thanks for the video. Will your product work in-hull as well? I have a Lowrance fish finder. Cheers
TheSternSaver Hi Scott. I sent you to message but I'm not sure you got them. Email me seabassoutdoors@gmail.com About to install 2 videos and would love to market them on my store too.
will these hold the bigger Lowrance LSS-2 transducers?
stratosjeff -They will, however we are coming out with a double-thick 1.5" block that is 6"X6" soon. That will hold even the 9lb Airmar TM260 transducer.
Where does the cord run to the gps? Won't you have to drill in the hull anyway?
Rich Pana -You route the cables either up over the transom into your motor cable tunnel or drill a hole ABOVE the waterline and use something like a Cable Clam as a pass-through. This war you won't drill any holes is a spot that can cause water infiltration.
Is a fish finder with a 300 transducer better then a 200? Im wanting a Garmin 301dv (300 trans) ppl are saying the Lowrance Elite-4x HDI Fishfinder with 83/200 (200 trans) is better? NEED TO KNOW FAST! And "IS" for a in hull kayak
Garmin and Lowrance both make great products but the general consensus is Lowrance makes the better sonar and Garmin makess the better GPS. I would demo both for yourself if you can just to compare the pros and cons of each unit. My boat has a 83/200 Lowrance and it works great until I fish 1000' plus deep water. You can always upgrade your transducer to an Aimar which is available for Lowrance and Garmin fish finders if you need better performance. I would consider a unit with a chart plotter/GPS so you can mark way points. Also when you find fish you can stay precisely on a "hot spot" and mark it's exact location, as well as record the X and Y coordinates for future reference.
I got 2 at Cabelas on sale. The HUMMINBIRD 196ci $99 and the LOWRANCE EliteX 5 HDI for $199. That 5 is a big sucker lol The 196 ci perfect for the kayak. Can't wait to get them in use. tx for the reply.
Haha gotta hold on tight to those rods!
