Abandoned Heritage Protected Converted House Stables
Was on the market for many years until it fell into Abandonment and a state of disrepair, this historic building known as the "Stables" was originally built in the late 1800s by the well known businessman A J White to house his horses, and with a hay loft on the upper floor. Converted in the 1950s into three flats.
We believe it went on the market as it would'nt have met the requirements for the government's new healthy home rental requirements, this would have made the property require expensive renovations and would make it unappealing to potential buyers that would be wanting to purchase as a rental investment.

Seddonville History Explore

Seddonville was named after Prime Minister of New Zealand Richard Seddon. It was established in the late 19th century as a mining community after the discovery of significant coal reserves in the area. Several mines nearby opened, with varying degrees of success,[7] until the last one closed in 1986, due to having up to 6% sulphur in its coal.[8] Coal was first discovered in 1862,[9] when the N...

I did the Charming Creek walk from the Seddonville Side, up the waterfall. It was absolutely pouring with rain the way only the West Coast can, but it absolutely made the day. It was my favourite part of the West Coast. It was interesting to see the other half, respect to you for doing it. I can see why it's closed!

I was at the Chateau back in 2005, on my honeymoon with my husband. I enjoyed the lounge atmosphere--the music, and playing pool. I cannot recall what room we stayed in and we did not know anything about the haunted stories. We stayed a couple of nights. We must have been on the 3rd floor as I remember we were high up in the hotel. I loved the beautiful, dark built-ins in the room. Strangely, there were weird flies and humidty in the bathroom, that never went away.--the AC in the bedroom did not have enough air flow to cool the room down. I remember after my husband had fallen asleep, I decided to stay up and watch some TV. But, I started feeling eerie in the room for some reason and felt uncomfortable. I had to pray that all was well and that I would just fall asleep and not worry about what I was feeling. Thankfully, I woke up and told my husband about it. We decided to leave that morning to another hotel.

Choice!! So neat to see my home town on here, the history in this area is amazing! My kids went to kino school.. I’m that old I remember the 1981 floods.. we used to go to a shop for fudge opp the pub before it was washed away! As for the pub us locals are fully aware that it’s haunted! (Especially the stairs)😵‍💫They have renovated the pub now,it use to have the flood line on the wall and there’s photos of locals standing at the bar in the flood water having a beer… classic!

I had a chance to look around the mill several years ago when George was alive. He told me that he kept all the vehicle Tyres inflated from a bottle of nitrogen which he did on a regular basis. Did you notice the Tram tracks leading to the bush . I also had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Endean , one of the owners in the late 80's. We were both tendering on the same block of pines locally. The Mill was not new but was re-erected here from another location. Such an interesting location, glad you could bring it to public attention. Cheers

The managers house with the shower is actual the cob in Co. Horse drawn Stage coaches pulled in there. The top floor was where a maid was killed and is said to still haunt the floor. Concidered one of the most haunted houses in nz. The swing in the back has no seat, just two chains, while there I watched the chains swinging back and forward together as if someone was swinging. Freaked the kids out a bit. Love the massive shower heads, well worth a stop in our bus just to take a long shower n fill up the salami supply.
