Rivers In Our Veins - Allison Miller
Rivers In Our Veins - 2024 winner of Chamber Music America's "Interdisciplinary Collaboration of the Year" award.
Award-winning drummer and composer Allison Miller invites you to embark on a riveting journey through her newly commissioned jazz suite, Rivers In Our Veins, exploring cultural, environmental, and ecological issues surrounding US rivers. Rivers In Our Veins is an immersive live performance that seamlessly blends original music, captivating river imagery, and the expressive artistry of contemporary and tap dance. The suite mirrors the diversity of America through folk, jazz, blues, rock, classical, and funk, as Miller leads her ensemble of longtime collaborators, including violinist Jenny Scheinman, Ben Goldberg on contra-alto and Bb clarinets, pianist Carmen Staaf, trumpeter Jason Palmer, bassist Todd Sickafoose, contemporary dancer Maleek Washington, and tap dancers Claudia Rahardjanoto and Lukey Hickey. Partnering with local Riverkeeper organizations, each performance raises awareness and funds for river cleanup, encouraging audiences to notice and appreciate their local waterways.
As Miller notes, “Throughout the piece, we celebrate the biodiversity within our rivers and watersheds. We address industrialism, and its effects on our rivers. We celebrate the Riverkeeper organizations and we explore the evolving connections between communities and their waterways and how a symbiotic relationship between the two are essential for survival on both sides. All of this is done without lyrics. It’s delivered subtly and delicately through an instrumental, dance, and visual interpretation that echoes the beautiful chaos of our rivers and watersheds, their ecology, and their flow.”

This is stunning and incredibly inspired. Awesome!
Woohoo!!
Was fortunate enough to see this line up in San Clemente California a few years ago. Incredible playing! I hope they come this way again sometime.
Great camera work
this group is incredible. AMAZING writing.
Loved the use of cornet and contra-alto clarinet..
😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥂
Excellent music; excellent production!
Just saw her at Jazz Festival in Motown. Wow!! Great set.
I wonder if Myra was influenced by Don Pullen. I hear some similarities in her playing. This group of players work so well together. Was lucky enough to see them play in San Clemente California a couple of years ago.
Sounds so rhythmic. Love it. Looking forward to the album.
❤
Love the title
More! More!! One minute is not enough! This is a fantastic band -- I hope you post some complete tunes!
amazing show!
Found this thanks to Terri Lyne Carrington's new book "New Standards - 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers." Fantastic discovery for me. So glad that book is pushing me in all kinds of great directions.
🤟🤣💦 ohhhh my... now that was a absolutely hilarious ending!!!
🎶✨♾

No joke (joke)
Proverbs 21:19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Ooooh yeah 👍
I'm way old but always looking for new sounds. I love the incredible musicianship of the younger generation. Very fond of the people who rework or record meditations on the masterworks of the last century, but original composing like this is so uplifting.
I like that you’re patient, logical, musical and have your own voice.
What a romp! Everything is in there that I love about jazz. Jenny's solo has such a playful intelligence. The breathing in her opening lines just pulls you in. But that trumpet-drum break at 3:32, dang! What greatness.
This is so amazing! I love it!
Sigourney Weaver on violin.
Allison has such great skill and chops. But what makes her such an incredible artist is how she is always right there with the music, driving, probing, listening, discovering and always sounding fresh.
Musicality >> Technicality
Saw them play live earlier this year. To say that the experience was life changing would not be an overstatement.
Godly.
This woman is fucking Killin it, all, and all else....... Monster.
Allison! all of your hard work has paid off. You have unreachable drum skills! Beautiful solo. YOU are an amazing talent in your musical genre'!
I just found you tonight...48 years old...lol. I just found you cause of Jaime Cull. You guys are awesome
sexy as hell I want to dance
Amazing drummer
dig
Allison is a musical genius, plus a wonderful person. The album is awesome, and you really get a sense of who she is as a person from this little video. Support Alison and buy ALL her albums. It's a great body of work, some of my favorite jazz ever, and I have a LOT of jazz. Her music always lifts my spirits.
Amazing Album !!! Beauty and creativity of an exceptional artist and composer, with a group of great musicians. Congratulations !!!
YES! Can't wait for this to drop.
Oh dear...what is the fate of Fantasy Studio? :o(
