zhlédnutí 125Před měsícem
Welcome back! In this video I cover some useful skills and experiences to consider before coming to Cal Poly as a CS student. By no means do you have to follow any of this advice Cal Poly will prepare you well regardless. However for those that want to really stand out and have the time desire to do so over the summer, hopefully this video will be helpful.

Bro, could you please make a video on accommodation if possible? That would be really helpful
For sure -- assuming freshman accommodation? What kind of things would you like to know?
Hey, what's the overall cost of ms including tuition, housing and everything for an international students? and are there scholarships available for ms in business analytics?
As a CS major do you feel the impact of learn by doing? I understand that in majors like EE or ME there will be lots of hands-on learning being done because those are more hardware-oriented. However, CS is mainly software and most colleges make CS students do coding assignments as their primary workload anyways - so do you feel like there is/would be a difference between Cal Poly CS "Learn by doing" and any other university's way of teaching CS?
Hey there, thanks for the comment. As you mentioned since core CS curriculum is almost exclusively software based and you will be working on your own projects and labs in any decent school, the "learn by doing" focus of Cal Poly can sometimes feel less special, especially when you compare this to more of the hands-on majors here. That being said I can definitely say essentially all of my CS professors have been incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate. The general reasoning for this is these highly intelligent professors are willingly accepting a lower salary at a state school so they are truly interested in academia. Also, all my CS classes have been ~30 students or less which is amazing.
super helpful!

Thanks for watching and glad this was helpful!
I've heard that they're planning to transfer from a quarter to a semester system in about 2 years too, so that was also a concern for me as I might come here for fall 2024 as an EE and that might mess up my graduation schedule
Yeah I think there's mixed opinions about this both on the faculty and student sides. The faculty seem to be preparing to adjust their syllabi for this change and while I imagine the education you get would still be good who know how things will turn out especially in the beginning. A potentially more concerning thing to consider is the administration's desire to have the school open in the summer for full capacity and even require some students to take classes in the summer and virtually during other quarters if I recall correctly -- don't remember the details though so you should look into this.
It is happening in 2026.
I’ve seen a lot of complaints about diversity, do you find that to be an issue during everyday life at Cal Poly or not at all?
As you may know Cal Poly has a largely caucasian population and you'll definitely notice this right away. For me (as well as most of the peers I know) this was not an issue at all. There are also plenty of cultural clubs and events run by students as well as Cal Poly itself.
It has always been like that, it hasn't changed in years.
